Role reversal proposal, writing homework help

Applied Final Project: Role Reversal Proposal

Part Two of Applied Final Project, Role Reversals: Understanding Our Gendered Selves:

“Challenging My Story” (5% of course grade; due end of Week Four)

One paragraph (150-250 words)

All parts of this project should be formatted in APA style (follow for both essay and citation styles): APA Style Guide: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/

Must be approved by instructor (“Pass”) to continue with project

Purpose: Role-Reversal Act Proposal

In this section of the assessment, you will choose an act that challenges societal gendered norms or that runs contrary to the way in which you project gender every day. In Week 6, you will go out into society and perform your act, so propose something you can actually do.

In conceptualizing this act, consider what you discovered about yourself as a gendered being in part one.

Turn in one paragraph (150-250 words) describing your act. What do you plan to do, when and where do you plan to do it, and why is it a reversal of your gendered history and current presentation of self?

Suggestions: These acts can be small (wearing your hair differently, or not wearing makeup if you usually do), or large (a radical change in hairstyle or dress, or speaking or behaving differently with others), or moderate (attempting to use exclusively gender neutral language, or suggesting a mixed-gender activity that is usually single-gender). Use your Part One discussion to identify areas of gendered behavior in your life where you can intervene to change something.

For an act to be approved, it must meet the following guidelines:

  1. It must differ from your usual practice.
  2. It must be public (this is fieldwork; it is not sufficient to record your own reaction. Others must be able to respond as well). “Public” does not have to be a large number of people.
  3. It must be noticeable, preferably without you having to explain the assignment to other people (see above about the public nature of the act).
  4. You must be able to perform it in the course of a single day.
  5. It must clearly relate to gender socialization.

Note: You may be a bit nervous about this act; that is normal. You are going against societal norms and your own socialization and breaking your everyday routine. I can tell you that, in the past, the students who had the most trepidations were the ones who in the end learned the most and enjoyed the project the most. Please contact me before the due date if you have any questions/concerns about the proposal.

Rubric for Part Two

Rubric indicates pass/fail. Instructor will respond as soon as assignment is submitted (may be submitted early); Part Two is a pass/fail assignment that you must resubmit until you pass in order to conduct the act and complete part four. Students receiving a pass will have a clear plan for a doable and relevant act.

As the first part of your Critical Thinking Assignment for this module, open a new Word document and title it Prewriting, Summarizing, and Paraphrasing. Without passing any judgment on your own ideas, generate a list of ideas and/or questions (to research more information about). Put this list of ideas in these heading categories:

  • Background of the Problem
  • Needs (reasons why the budget needs to be decreased but services need to remain the same)
  • Proposed Ideas (how to balance the budget and still keep the same services)
  • Benefits (for the university and its students)
  • Implementation (actions recommended)
  • Recommendation (summary and conclusion).

Note: You should aim to generate 3-5 or more ideas under each of the above headings.

Part Two Instructions-Summarizing: As the second part of your Critical Thinking Assignment for this module, within document titled: Prewriting, Summarizing, and Paraphrasing add “Summary” right after your prewriting/brainstorm. 2. Original – “So far computers cannot substitute for complex forms of communication because they require the ability to interpret information within a context” (Jerald, 2009, p.58). Paraphrase.
  3. Original – “The fundamental shift has brought a host of challenges not just for today’s managers, who have to ensure that their teams perform across significant distances, but also for the remote worker who has to stay motivated while aiming to meet targets away from the hustle and bustle of an office” (Evans, 2010, p.28). Paraphrase.
  4. Original – “Our research suggests that a global mind-set, in which people see themselves as part of an international network, helps provide an environment that is conducive to dispersed teams” (Siebdrat, Hoegl, & Ernst 2009, p. 68). Paraphrase.
  5. Original – “Benefits of collaboration include developing critical thinking skills, discussion and consideration of ideas, and social skills development” (Kieser & Golden, 2009, p. 42). Paraphrase.

What is poetry? This literary genre has been around, first as an oral tradition, since the beginning of human history. Yet there is no absolute, agreed-upon definition of poetry. The poet Salvatore Quasimodo said it is “the revelation of a feeling that the poet believes to be interior and personal which the reader recognizes as his own,” while Greek philosopher Plutarch called it “painting that speaks.” And contemporary author and poet Salman Rushdie has said, “A poet’s work is to name the unnamable, to point at frauds, to take sides, start arguments, shape the world, and stop it going to sleep.” Whatever your own feelings, try to approach the Phase 3 readings with openness. You just may discover that all three writers were correct about poetry!

Part A: Chosen Poem

After reading the fifteen assigned poems, choose one that especially resonates with you and speaks your truth in some way. Write a paragraph elaborating on at least three reasons why you selected this particular poem. Which lines are especially memorable to you?

Part B: A Poet and Didn’t Know It

Try your hand at composing your own 8 to 20 line poem. Choose a topic that interests you: anything from a hobby to a place to a special person or memory. It doesn’t matter whether it is rhymed or unrhymed, but it does need to include vivid imagery and figurative language. Don’t worry about perfecting your poem; you are not expected to produce a finished product. Rather, this is an exercise in learning about the poet’s creative process. Try not to over-think it; one of the wonderful gifts of poetry is that there is no “right” or “wrong” way to write it.

What do you think of this poem? I wrote it when I was a teenager

As I sit here and watch you die I find it very hard to I hold in my cry, I try so hard to hold it in but I just can’t wait until the very end.

Through all the laughter and all the tears; Mom you’ve stood beside me through all my childhood years. You gave me life, you taught me love, and I will continue to treasure these values when you’re above.

I’ll miss you now more than ever, and that’s why I wish you could live forever: I know that wish will never come true because God want’s you now and there’s nothing I can do.

I’m glad that we shared this special time together; that I will cherish in my heart forever and ever. I want you to know as I watch you go that my love for you will never let go.

PART 2

You will be writing an essay of 1,100 words or more about two additional poems from the assigned reading list. Please select two works from the list of fifteen—excluding the one you already reflected on in Part A of the Phase 3 DB assignment—and answer the questions below. Again, be sure to begin your paper with an engaging introduction and clear thesis statement, develop each point in the body of your paper using examples and quotes from the poems, and conclude your paper with a restatement of your thesis and closing remarks. Also, make sure you maintain your credibility by including in-text citations and a reference list correctly formatted in APA style.

  1. Imagery: What visual images can you identify in both poems? Comment on the details you notice about objects, places, people, colors, textures and so forth. Which of your other senses are stimulated by the poets’ descriptions?
  2. Figures of Speech: List the specific metaphors, similes, puns and other figures of speech each poet uses and how they contribute to the poem’s overall meaning. (Remember, figurative language is not literal but rather suggestive of something else. For example, the metaphor, “Jack is a pig,” is not a reference to an actual animal with hooves but rather someone named Jack who has pig-like qualities or mannerisms.)
  3. Symbolism: Identify the symbols you notice in each poem. What abstract concepts (e.g., love, death, truth) might the concrete objects (e.g., persons, places, things) suggest?
  4. Language and Word Choice: Every word in a poem has been included (or left out) after much deliberation, as poets choose their words very carefully. Remark on the following in each poem: Does the poet use informal or formal language? Does he or she write in an older dialect or contemporary English? Provide examples.
  5. Tone: What tone does each poet take (e.g., sad, humorous, sarcastic, loving, etc.) toward his or her subject matter?
  6. Themes: What are the main messages of both poems? Give reasons for your answers.
  7. Sound: Read both poems aloud. What do you notice about their rhythms, rhyme schemes and musicality? How does listening to the sound of a poem differ from merely reading it as words on a page?
  8. Final Thoughts: Poetry can enlighten and/or evoke deep emotion in readers. Express the impact each of the two poems you have analyzed for this assignment had on you. What insights did you gain about life or human nature, and what feelings did each piece stir in you? Has your view of poetry changed in any way since reading and analyzing the Phase 3 poems? Explain your answer

English Writing Assignment

For this assignment, I want you to select one journal entry and make it “audience ready” by crafting it into a piece of writing that conforms to the genre of your choice. Your journal entry as it stands now is a starting place, not an end product. It is your job in this assignment to take an idea, issue, prompt or response you like from your journal and transform it into something with a larger meaning an audience will understand.

This field is wide open! You can write for any genre you choose from the list here.

  • Profile, photo essay, memoir, manifesto, speech, satire, obituary, news article, advertisement, infographic, a dictionary or encyclopedia entry, character analysis, how-to column, review, editorial argument, a “This I Believe” statement, letter (any kind – letter to editor, friend, organization), you can even “rewrite” a Kellner prompt and make it your own.
  • Creative text like a one act play, poem, short story, comic strip, a myth, fairy tale, song lyrics

Answer each of the following, drawing upon your reading materials and your personal insight, writing homework help

PART 1

Work friendships are often tenuous and can depend on the quality of one’s productivity in the workplace environment. When the work suffers, then the friendship can quickly turn volatile. Sociologists often report that people will more likely fake their friendships at work not to upset their career prospects (Vernon, p. 27).

In at least 350 words total, please answer each of the following, drawing upon your reading materials and your personal insight. Please be sure that you do not provide names of people or identifying characteristics of the workplace.

  • To what extent do you personally agree with the sociologist’s findings and distrust the sincerity of your work colleagues?
  • What has been your own experience with enacting friendships of utility and/or feigning friendship in order to secure your employment or future career prospects? Do you believe this is ethical? Explain your answer.

PART 2

Research indicates that friendships at work increase productivity and overall job satisfaction. Additionally, employees are more likely to believe they are well-paid. Those who share friendships at work are more likely to share ideas, be innovative and feel like their work has real meaning and purpose (p. 17). Yet, Vernon posits that in the workplace, we often experience a pseudo-intimacy, whereby “colleagues can know so much about each other but can care so little” (Vernon, p. 15).

In at least 350 words total, please answer each of the following, drawing upon your reading materials and your personal insight:

  • To what extent does having friendships in the workplace impact your own level of job satisfaction?
  • Please describe some of your own friendships in a workplace environment and whether you have been able to experience true care and support from your colleagues. What about genuine friendship?

Evaluation Criteria

Each post should be at least 350 words and must substantively integrate the assigned readings from the module with proper APA style formatting.

For assistance with APA style formatting, visit the Library or the Excelsior OWL.

After you have posted, read through the postings of your peers. Choose (at least) two of your peers’ posts to respond to. The posts you choose to respond to do not necessarily have to be classmates’ initial posts.

Each response to a peer should be (at least) approximately 100 words in length and should contribute to the discussion in progress. All responses to classmates should be substantive. That is, they should go beyond simple agreement or disagreement with classmates’ posts. Also, be sure that your responses are respectful, substantive, and consistent with the expectations for discussion, as stated by the prompt. Be sure to monitor and respond to feedback to your major thread post throughout the module. Be sure also to reply to your classmates’ postings and that your responses are within the designated due dates for this discussion activity. Please direct any questions you may have to your instructor.

Consult the Discussion Posting Guide for information about writing your discussion posts. Be sure to check your work and correct any spelling or grammatical errors before you post it. When you are ready to post, click on the “Create Thread” button for a new thread or “Reply” to respond to a previous post. Then, copy/paste the text from your document into the message field, and click “Submit”.

Discussions are worth 30% of your final grade and are assessed using the SLA Discussion Rubric [39.1 KB PDF file]. Review the rubric carefully so you understand how you will be graded.

Benefits and Limitations of Strategic Planning

Strategic planning refers to the process of defining future goals in an organization and determining the required resources for achieving them (Micheli and Manzoni 469). In business, there is different strategic planning; for instance, business plan and market plan. In practice, it is always prudent to engage stakeholders of the business in the strategic plan since their views may play a significant role in ensuring the success of the business. Although strategic planning is beneficial to the business, it still has considerable drawbacks. Therefore, evaluation of the benefits and limitations of strategic planning will uncover the available options, set priorities, and define methods to achieve them.

Strategic planning provides management with the direction to run its operations. In order to succeed, managers need a guide that will direct their day-to-day decisions in the business. Moreover, a manager needs a platform that will help him or her evaluate the progress and the dynamism of the business. To achieve these goals, each manager needs to have a well-established strategic plan.

Strategic planning promotes wise decisions making in an organization. Unlike organizations that do not have an effective plan, organizations that have an effective plan do give departmental managers a platform to brainstorm and come up with practical and logical ideas that will improve the overall productivity of the business (Chae and Hill 547).

Strategic planning has several limitations that can adversely affect the operations of an organization. For instance, strategic planning can cause financial problems that may end up threatening the success of an organization (Ryals and Rogers 215). Strategic planning is relatively expensive in terms of time, human resource, and financial resource. In most cases, financial problems may become a burden to an organization if the organization has not laid down the right infrastructure to accommodate these costs. Therefore, it is imperative for organizations to ensure that they are stable before engaging themselves in strategic planning.

Strategic planning is also a challenging task that requires a creative way of thinking to process ideas. Unfortunately, many people are not suited for creative thinking, which makes it hard for all organizations to succeed. Therefore, strategic planning offers guidance and direction only according to what people think (Micheli and Manzoni 469).

To sum up, it is important to acknowledge that strategic planning is an essential exercise for organizational management. Since it is not easy to predict the future, it is always critical to come with an effective strategic plan, as an organization will be avoiding risks of uncertainties and overspending. However, it is also important to consider the various limitations that are related to strategic planning as it will help a manager to weigh the benefits and the limitations of the process.

selected category relates to all of the religions, writing homework help

Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:

  1. Select ONE (1) category from the completed World View Chart. Provide a rationale for choosing this category. What is compelling about this category? Why is it important in the study of religion?
  2. Describe the selected content and explain the significance of the selected category across all of the religions studied. Show in what ways the category is significant for each religion.
  3. Give an example of how you have noticed this category in your life, town or country. What impact does this category have in the everyday lives of people who practice religion in your area? (You do not have to give examples of all the religions in your area, just one you have noticed besides any you practice). For example, in Cincinnati, Ohio we have Hindu, Greek Orthodox, Catholic festivals in the summer. So if my category were “Festivals and Celebrations” I could use those events as my example.
  4. Use at least three (3) quality resources as references for the assignment and document your sources using APA Style for in-text citations and references. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

“situational reactions” HU 260

Situational Reactions

Read the following three situations. Describe what you would do in EACH situation. Integrate the elements of reasoning and intellectual standards in your writing to show an understanding of the material behind your personal example

Your essay should be 500-750 words in length and include the use of at least two (2) elements of reasoning and two (2) intellectual standards for EACH of the three (3) scenarios you will be discussing.

Do not worry about your answers being right or wrong – your work will be evaluated on its connection to the material – not the behavior you would engage in if you found yourself in these situations.

Scenario A: You are a soldier in the U.S. Military and are deployed in a foreign country during a war. A raid on a suspected military target went wrong, and your squad opened fire on several innocent people. Your commander asks you and the rest of the squad to make it look like they opened fire up on you first.

  • How would you respond?
  • How might your response change (or would it change) if the rest of your squad didn’t agree with you?

Scenario B: As a new police officer, you pull someone over for speeding. You note some suspicious behavior and feel it is justified for you to search the offender’s vehicle. After searching the vehicle, you confiscate several ounces of marijuana, which is still illegal in the state you serve.

You realize that the computer system is down, so you cannot chronicle this bust until you return to the station. After learning this, your partner, who is a decorated officer with more than 15 years on the force, pulls you aside and tells you that his wife is sick and he could really use that marijuana at home for medicinal purposes to help her with her pain.

  • How would you respond to your partner?
  • Does it make a difference that he is a much more experienced officer?

Scenario C: Your child, Johnny, is a senior in high school, and has, up until this year, earned very good grades in his coursework. Because of his academic achievement, he has been awarded a full academic scholarship to a good university.

Now, Johnny has a first-year teacher who assigns work that seems inappropriately difficult, and Johnny is struggling. Though his grades in his other classes are exceptional, he will need to earn a C or better for this class if he hopes to keep his scholarship, and it all hinges on his score on the last assignment in this difficult class.

The assignment is on a topic that your professor did her graduate work on, so you know there’s no way a high schooler should be expected to do well in this assignment. Still, if Johnny doesn’t ace this assignment, he will not earn a good enough course grade to keep his scholarship.

  • Do you actively help him complete the assignment, or do you let him do it himself, knowing that without your help he will fail the assignment, not because he isn’t smart enough or dedicated enough, but because the assignment is inappropriately difficult?

Your completed assignment should be written primarily in first person and should be 500-750 words in length. If you use sources in your writing, be sure to identify them. If you use any direct language from a source, be sure to place those words in quotation marks.

1. Your response must include:

  • which criteria you think constitutes the successful comprehension of Islam to a new convert and how this criteria ties into the core concepts of Islam and Muhammad’s involvement in facilitating it.
  • a comparison of how your criterion reflects a change from or similarity to the Pre-Islamic culture that would have helped to entice a new convert’s transition into Islamic culture.
  • how your criteria contributed to the successful spread of Islam
  • examples to support your reasoning.

Be sure to refer back to the learning activities where appropriate and provide citations for any additional resources you may use.

learning activities you can use for it The Arabs, much like the Ancient Greeks, were not a united people but came from various tribes who, despite sharing some cultural similarities, often competed against one another as much as they would trade and help each other. These tribes, particularly the nomadic Bedouin and the more sedentary Koraysh, practiced their own regional specific customs and worshipped differently deities.

2. You have been given a time machine, and you must go back in time and live for one year in one of these dynasties. Which dynasty would you choose and why?

You must use evidence from the learning activities to explain why you chose the dynasty you did, and also, why you did NOT choose the other two.

learning activity stuff In the last few modules, we have been discussing the evolution of empires and kingdoms in Europe, but it’s important to remember that there were political changes occurring throughout the globe at this time. Not only did empires develop in India, but China was also moving towards larger geographic unification. This was not an easy or straight forward process.

As you will see in this module, the Qin, while much maligned by contemporaries, were willing and able to do what it took to create a unified China. Under the guidance of Qin Shi Huangdi, the Qin created homogeneity (or, uniformity) in weights, measures, writing, laws and much more.

Due to their brutal methods, the Qin Dynasty would be short lived. However, without the unified base created by the Qin, the Han likely would never have maintained the long-running, relatively stable dynasty they were able to build immediately following the Qin Dynasty.

Capella University CH1 The Global Importance of Effective Communication Paper

  • Write a 3-5 page professional paper that analyzes the tools leaders can use to build trust and relationships, explains how leaders use storytelling to build trust and relationships, and showcases your ability to tell a story.

    Introduction

This portfolio work project will give you practice with professional writing expectations, as well as motivating and persuading others by telling a story.

    Scenario

You have learned about the tools that leaders have available to them to use as a way to engage and motivate others and to build trust and collaborative relationships. Storytelling is one of the tools.

    Your Role

You have just been assigned to lead a team that has an established history with your organization. Due to some serious issues in the past, you are concerned about building relationships with the team members and creating a working environment of mutual trust and collaboration.

    Requirements

For this assessment you will choose one of the following three options:

    Option A: Your Own Story

For this option, choose a real situation from your own work experience where a team of people needed to work together in order to get something done. For whatever reason, the group failed to succeed. Now that you will be working as the new leader of the team, you would like to take steps to prevent the same thing from happening again.

Option B: Case Study – NASA Challenger Disaster

For this option, use this chapter:

    • Snarski, R. D. (2017). Communicating clearly in the information age: A guide to easy and effective writing for employees, students, writers and anyone who uses the written word. Tampa, FL: Author.

The reading asserts that NASA engineers knew there was a problem in the shuttle that could cause a disaster, yet the shuttle launched. As a new team leader at NASA, you want to take steps to build trust among the members of the team and develop relationships that will result in better collaboration and engagement, so a disaster like this doesn’t happen again.

Option C: Case Study – BP Oil Spill

For this option, use this case study:

The Gulf oil spill article asserts that there were some at BP who knew in advance that there was a problem that could lead to a disaster. As the new team leader for a team at BP, you want to take steps to build trust among the members of the team and develop relationships that will result in better collaboration and engagement to prevent similar disasters in the future.

    Assessment Instructions

For whichever case you chose, complete the following:Write a professional paper that analyzes the tools leaders can use to build trust and collaboration and explains why you believe storytelling is one effective tool for you to use to lead your team. In your paper, complete the following:

    • Analyze the tools leaders can use to build trust and relationships, foster collaboration, and help employees feel engaged with their work.
      • Identify the specific tools.
      • Explain how each tool can be used.
      • Explain the benefits of each tool.
    • Explain ways in which leaders use storytelling to build trust and relationships.
      • Provide some examples of times when using storytelling would be effective.
      • Tell a story to your team. Create a section of your paper where you craft a story to your team which informs them about the past situation, yet inspires them to excellence in the future.
    • Craft a story that:
      • Describes the past situation and what went wrong. Where did the breakdown in trust happen?
      • Discusses what you have learned from that situation about trust, relationships, communication, collaboration, and any other aspects.
      • Describes your plan for building trust among the team members.
      • Is well organized and appropriate for your intended audience.

When you create this paper you should have a single file that is organized with subheadings and is easy to read and follow. It should include, at minimum, an introduction, sections on collaboration and trust, a section on storytelling and how it is effect, and then a section that actually tells the story that you, as a leader, would tell your team.If you wish, instead of writing the story portion of this paper, you can create a video or audio recording of it using Capella-supported Kaltura Media or providing your instructor with a YouTube link. When using Kaltura for your recording, you may record a video or use audio only if you do not have a camera on your computer. Refer to the MBA Program Resources for the Using Kaltura tutorial to prepare for this option.

    Deliverable Format

    • Professional paper of 3–5 pages.
    • Include supporting resources.
    • If you chose to record your story using Kaltura or YouTube upload, it should not exceed 5 minutes and you should put a note saying you have attached an audio/video file in the appropriate section of your paper.

    Evaluation

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies through corresponding scoring guide criteria:

    • Competency 2: Apply leadership strengths and behaviors to workplace situations.
      • Apply storytelling skills to a workplace situation where trust and collaboration are essential.
    • Competency 3: Recommend evidence-based strategies for leading and collaborating in complex environments.
      • Analyze the tools leaders can use to build trust and relationships, foster collaboration, and help employees feel engaged with their work.

    • Competency 5: Communicate effectively through academic and professional writing.
      • Correctly format citations and references using current APA style.
      • Write content clearly and logically with correct use of grammar, punctuation, and mechanics.

Why did the US invade Iraq in 2003?, research paper help

The Research Paper.

You will write a 5-6page ORIGINAL, ANALYTICAL research paper.  In this paper, you will choose an event from the last 100 years that addresses a why question, or which seeks to explain an outcome of some significance over the last 100 years.  The paper must be based on at least 3-5 primary sources that offer insight into the question; three scholarly books and four scholarly articles.  The research question and argument must be laid out clearly and  should give a sense of how you will prove your argument.

The topic question is “Why did the US invade Iraq in 2003?”

You should organize your paper in:

1.  a clear introduction that presents the puzzling event/issue that you will explain and states your argument in brief;

2.  supporting sections with evidence that develops your argument and considers alternative explanations, and;

3.  a conclusion that summarizes your arguments and illustrates its significance (answering the “so-what” question).

All papers must be typed, in 12 point type, New Times Roman font, double spaced, MINIMUM MARGINS OF 1 INCH ON ALL SIDES.  All writing assignments should have an argument put forward by you.  Ideally, they should address a “why” question and have a thesis statement (an argument that answers why something happened for example).

Be very careful about writing a paper that simply summarizes the contents of the primary sources.  Of course, you will have to understand the documents and briefly present an overview of them, but your assignment is to explain and interpret the evidence (documents).  Additionally, beware of gushing or ranting about your documents. Don’t simply assert or suggest your views. Instead, prove and demonstrate them.

Discussion: International Perceptions of Human Rights, writing homework help

Discussion: International Perceptions of Human Rights

Following the atrocities of World War II, world leaders created a legally binding declaration that would act as the foundation of international human rights law. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, drafted by committee members from several continents, represents “the universal recognition that basic rights and fundamental freedoms are inherent to all human beings . . . [w]hatever our nationality, place of residence, gender, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, language, or any other status” (United Nations, n.d.-a, para. 2). The leaders recognized that these rights are “inalienable and equally applicable to everyone, and that every one of us is born free and equal in dignity and rights” (United Nations, n.d.-a, para. 2). Although the United Nations declared these rights to apply to everyone, individuals from various cultures differ in terms of ethical norms, codes of conduct, and values. How do these cultural differences in ethical norms and codes of conduct affect public administrators’ perceptions of human rights?

For this Discussion, select two cultures within one country (e.g., Basques and Romani people of Spain).

Post by Day 3 an explanation of how the cultural differences in the ethical norms and codes of conduct in your chosen countries might affect a public administrator’s perception of human rights within that country. Then, explain how both global governance structures and nongovernmental organizations might address these differences in ethical norms and values in order to improve human rights in that country.

Support your postings and responses with specific references to the resources.

Your Tasks: Read They Say Chapter 14, “Hidden Intellectualism” on pp. 244-251, and
Personal Narratives pp. 58-61 in LSH. Next, write a personal narrative that answers the
following question: what did you love, know, and analyze as an adolescent the way
Gerald Graff loved sports?Adopt a template from They Say, one that allows you to respond to Graff while keeping
the focus on your own experience. Remember Chapter 7: just because something
happened to you, doesn’t mean your readers will care. You have to make us care. Your
audience is your classmates and me. We have read Graff’s essay. Refer the author by
his last name only.
See the Essay Rubric under Content before you submit your essay to the Essay #1
Dropbox. Your essay should be 750 to 900 words long and must use standard English
grammar and mechanics. Be sure to use MLA style citations and a works cited entry for
Graff’s essay.
Grammar refers to sentence structure and parts of speech. Mechanics refer to
capitalization, spelling, typographical correctness, and punctuation. See yellow
bordered pages and the Checklist for Revising and Editing on the inside flap of LSH.

Essay Rubric:

Worthwhile content distinguishes the A essay. The introduction engages the readers and clearly states a thoughtful, perceptive thesis; the support is concrete and so rich in detail that readers learn by reading the essay. The ideas are logically organized to achieve maximum effect; transitions are graceful. Sentences flow smoothly, showing creativity and variety. The writer is obviously comfortable with his or her material and knows enough about the subject to explain it in great detail. Few, if any, errors distract the reader from the writer’s superior thought.

the passage in context. Responses can be personal but the presentation must involve critical thinking. Use of secondary sources in your discussion is strongly recommended; proper citation, whether in MLA or other standard format, is essential. Response papers

will help prepare you for the final exam, in which you will be asked to analyze passages at sight.(between
600 and 1,000 words each)

Quick Technology essay

Consider the following in your discussion:

  • Identify and explain three types of technology that are necessary for accurate crime analysis.
  • Identify four or more methods of collecting, storing, and retrieving information needed for crime analysis, using examples to support their importance.
  • Analyze two benefits of crime analysis to the community and two benefits to law enforcement, and why.
  • Two resources are required and the textbook is allowed.

Your viewpoint and purpose should be clearly established and sustained. You essay should be well ordered, logical and unified, as well as original and insightful.

The assignment should follow the conventions of Standard English (correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling).

    Complete College Essay

    Essay 1Specifications

Aim for 1000-1200 words. You may exceed 1200 words, but you may not fall below the minimum. Essays below 1000 words will not be assigned a peer editor.

Topics are open and are very wide. You can choose to write on any literary work on the planet (earth only, pls). Alternately, you may write on a film.  You will relate the work on which you choose to write to one of three readings assigned for class (below).

The total number of works you will discuss in your essay will be TWO—the class reading choice and your outside choice.   Your essay should emphasize your outside choice; it will be your primary focus.  You should not write a complete analysis of either of the works you choose; pick two or three relevant passages/characters/speeches from your outside choice that exemplify a theme in one of the class reading choices. Key words here:  limit yourself!

    Class reading choices (pickone):

      Plato “Allegory of the Cave”

      Singer:  “Gimpel the Fool”

      Jackson:  “The Lottery”

Quick recap: For your outside choice, decide on a novel, graphic novel, movie/film, video game, play or short story (poems are fine but probably will complicate your task somewhat) that contains thematic parallels to Plato, Singer, or Jackson . Most likely you will be analyzing a very small portion of the whole, so draw a good bead on your target. Then use one of the works above as a paradigm/filter/example/map/guide/lens, etc that will help you analyzeyour outside choice. You should not provide a side-‐by–side comparison of the two; your outside choice is the focus of your paper; the class reading choice will help you analyzeit.

IMPORTANT (this bears repeating!): You are not writing an interpretation of one of the class readings  (Plato, Gimpel or the Lottery).  Your essay should CENTER ON the outside work (short story, play, novel, movie, etc) that you choose. The ideas in Plato, Gimpel or the Lottery should be used only to help understand your chosen work.

Skills I’m looking for in thisessay:

the usual: strong thesis, interesting intro, well-‐developed ideas, thoughtfulness (admittedly this is a difficult one to self-‐assess: “Am I thinking hard enough here?” but I’d like to see some digging beneath the surface beyond merely “These two works have a few of the same ideas!”), smooth segues between paragraphs, blockbuster conclusion (okay, but make it better than, “In conclusion, as you can see. . .”)

    and:

ability to hone in on smaller sections of the works and choose passages that are relevant to a largertheme

      avoidance of unnecessary summary

ability to use quotes from the texts to support your ideas and to incorporate quotes into your writing smoothly. You will use quotes from your class reading choice (Plato, Jackson, or Singer) as well as quotes from the outside work that you choose, including films or games. If you use a film, look for scripts online; if you cannot find it, you will need to quote directly from the film.  Use Writer’s Help for your in-‐text quotations and works cited page.

     TOPICSUGGESTIONS

The following suggestions are not a comprehensive list of possible choices; these don’t even scratch thesurface.

I mean for this list to be helpful rather than intimidating, but I realize that there’s such a thing as “too many choices.” If you find yourself overwhelmed by the options here, go back to square one: decide which class reading work you wish to use (Plato/Lottery/Gimpel) and then narrow your outside choices (below) to 2-3. Start jotting down general ideas about connections and see which seems to generate morematerial.

Note: You can search for the shorts stories listed below in Literature Portfolio, by name online, or, if you don’t have any luck, let me know and I’ll send italong.

I heartily suggest but will not insist:  If you’re choosing a novel, play or film, you will likely gain much more general enjoyment out of your life in the days before the paper is due if you choose one with which you are already somewhat familiar.:)

    PLATO’S “ALLEGORY OF THECAVE”

Relate Plato’s cave to another work of literature or film, drawing specific analogies between thetwo.

One concentration might be to show how a character’s path to enlightenment/epiphany follows the same general arc as does Plato’s released prisoner. You will show how a character begins as innocent or ignorant (in chains in the cave) and how the character metaphorically “sees the light” outside of the cave (revelation or epiphany).  The character will not necessarily try to convince others to see the world in a new way, but make sure that you clarify what the character has learned and how he/she haschanged.

    Some short story suggestions:

    “The Lesson” (Toni Cade Bambara)

most Flannery O’Connor stories,  specifically “Revelation” and “Good Country People”

    “The Chrysanthemums” (John Steinbeck)

    “A & P” (John Updike)

    “Arturo’s Flight” (Judith Ortiz Cofer)

    “Boys & Girls” (Alice Munro)

    “The Death of IvanIlych”(Leo Tolstoy)

    “Cathedral” (Raymond Carver)

    “Barn Burning” (WilliamFaulkner)

    And plays and novels:

    A Dollhouse (Henrik Ibsen) (play)

Perks of Being a Wallflower (Stephen Chbosky) (novel and film)

To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee) (novel andfilm)

Also: any work that implies or depicts alternate realities:

    The Truman Show (film)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Truman_Show

The Matrix (film) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Matrix Inception (film) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inception Vanilla Sky (film) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanilla_Sky The Croods (animatedfilm):

    http://ncronline.org/blogs/ncr-‐today/plato-‐comes-‐life-‐dreamworks-‐film-‐croods)

    eXistenZ (film)http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120907/

    Avatar (film)http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499549/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Big list of alt-reality-themed lit, film, games, etc: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simulated_reality_in_fiction

Many sci-fi and fantasy works deal in alternate realities, in fact, but keep in mind that the separate realities must be within the work, not between your “reality” and that of the literature/film. In other words, a character within the work must questioning, “what is real?”

    “GIMPEL THEFOOL”

Analyze the idea of the “holy fool” in literature or film using Gimpel as a paradigm—-comparison/contrast. I found the definitions of “holy fool” online to vary rather widely; if you prefer, you may bypass the formal definition and define Gimpel and similar characters in your own way. Fantasy lit contains numerous examples of the wise fool.

Also Forrest Gump (Winston Groom) (film and novel); Odd Thomas (Dean Koontz); Chauncey Gardener in Being There (Jerzy Kosinski) [also works for the Plato topic]

    “THELOTTERY”

Using Jackson’s “The Lottery,” show how a story, novel and/or film shows resistance to and/or acceptance of change. (The alternate reality topic above is very similar): Lord of the Flies (William Golding); The Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins); To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee) (novel); Death of a Salesman (Arthur Miller) (play); Things Fall Apart (Chinua Achebe) (novel); Disgrace (J.M. Coetze) (novel) ; Blade Runner  (film);  Avatar(film).M

Many multicultural works fit under this topic.

You might also consider literature/film that involves a character who brings a new worldview to the masses. Many sci-fi stories/novels (especially dystopic lit) do so as well as works with a “messiah” type figure, such as Stranger in a Strange Land (Robert A. Heinlein)(novel).

You are welcome to use a video game for the assignment, but I am not a big gamer, so you are very, very likely to be more familiar with the “narratives” of games thanI.

    Psychology

    1. Choose which type of mindset you most identify with, either fixed or growth, and explain how this mindset affects how you feel about your intelligence and abilities.Your response must be at least 75 words in length
    2. Choose one theory of intelligence you learned about from the video and explain why this theory sounds most accurate to you. Be sure to summarize the theory, including the type(s) of intelligence it describes, and why you think this theory is better than the others.Your response must be at least 75 words in length.
    3. Describe the development of speech, from infancy to approximately 2 years of age.Your response must be at least 75 words in length.
    4. Describe why it is more difficult now more than ever before for humans to make decisions. Be sure your answer includes specific examples and the processes that different parts of the brain go through when making decisions.Your response must be at least 75 words in length.

Autonomy in the Workplace, assignment help

    Autonomy in the Workplace

Management should be more about enabling employees to be successful rather than overseeing their every move. When more direct supervision is warranted, managers must attempt to strike a balance somewhere between complete autonomy and micromanagement.

    • In thinking about your own work, what aspect of autonomy is most important to you? Autonomy over what you do (task), when you do it (time), how you do it (technique), or with whom you do it (team)? Why?
    • How does education today prepare people to be autonomous learners?

Note: You do not need to directly answer these points in your Discussion post, as they serve only to begin your thinking process; however, you must explain your reasoning as you formulate your formal response.

    Answer the following questions!

    • What are the risks of allowing others to be autonomous? What are the benefits?
    • What procedures would need to be put in place to ensure that assignments are still being completed?
    • What happens when your employees are educated in a Type X environment? As a manager, how can you help them succeed in a Type I environment? Be specific

Individual Behavior, Diversity, Attitudes, and Job Satisfaction

    Part 1

Read the following article Listed Below Here:

    Unit 2 Article reading.pdf

After reading the article above, read Case Incident 2: Increasing Age Diversity in the Workplace listed Below:

CASE INCIDENT 2 Increasing Age Diversity in the Workplace

Over the past century, the average age of the workforce has continually increased as medical science continues to enhance longevity and vitality. The fastest-growing segment of the workforce is individuals over the age of 55. Recent medical research is exploring techniques that could extend human life to 100 years or more. In addition, the combination of laws prohibiting age discrimination and elimination of defined-benefit pension plans means that many individuals continue to work well past the traditional age of retirement.

Unfortunately, older workers face a variety of discriminatory attitudes in the workplace. Researchers scanned more than 100 publications on age discrimination to determine what types of age stereotypes were most prevalent across studies. They found that stereotypes suggested job performance declined with age, counter to empirical evidence presented earlier in this chapter that relationships between age and core task performance are essentially nil. Stereotypes also suggest that older workers are less adaptable, less flexible, and incapable of learning new concepts. Research, on the other hand, suggests they are capable of learning and adapting to new situations when these are framed appropriately.

Organizations can take steps to limit age discrimination and ensure that employees are treated fairly regardless of age. Many of the techniques to limit age discrimination come down to fundamentally sound management practices relevant for all employees: set clear expectations for performance, deal with problems directly, communicate with workers frequently, and follow clear policies and procedures consistently. In particular, management professionals note that clarity and consistency can help ensure all employees are treated equally regardless of age.

    1. Address the following questions in your Discussion response making references to both the article and the case in your response:
      • Do you think increasing age diversity will create new challenges for managers? What types of challenges do you expect will be most profound?
      • How might diversity impact individual attitudes and behavior?
      • Can diversity increase job satisfaction? If so, how?

    Part 2

In Discussion you addressed the effect of workforce diversity on job satisfaction. Now you will continue this topic of job satisfaction in this Assignment. For this section you will use the Experiential Exercise at the end of Chapter 3 in your text, entitled “What Factors Are Most Important to Your Job Satisfaction?” Read the exercise and review the list of 21 factors or attributesA.

    21 factors Are:

    ● Autonomy and independence.

In your mini essays, I would like you to use at least two different peer reviewed sources to help substantiate your points. One of the sources should come from one of the assigned readings, and I would like at least one other source to come from outside our course texts. There are some great resources out there to help you find appropriate peer reviewed source material. One place to find some good journal articles is JSTOR (www.jstor.org). I’d like you to avoid using websites, as often these are not the most reliable and lack peer reviewed status. When providing these sources, you must use the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS or Chicago Style). Textbook: Hanh, Thich Nhat. The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching. pp 3-18. Please select one source form the assigned pages in this textbook.

Academic Research StandardsAcademic research and papers must meet certain standards of quality recognized by the academic community. What constitutes quality, academic research?

    1. Primary sources, which are documents from the time period being discussed
    2. Secondary sources supported by research in primary sources
    3. Credible sources (experts in the area of study)
    4. Relevant research (materials are pertinent to the area of study)
    5. In graduate work, the use of peer-reviewed journal articles (journal articles reviewed by recognized experts in the relevant field of study) is required.
    6. Educational and Government websites may be appropriate in some cases, but should be evaluated carefully.

The paper must be five to seven pages in length (excluding the title pages) and formatted according to APA style. week proj2

As you have discovered through this course, nurses are influential members of the community and the political system. Therefore, for the purposes of this assignment you will identify a problem or concern in your community, organization, etc. that has the capacity to be legislated. You will conduct research and state a proposal. Through the legislative process, your proposal for the problem or concern may influence an idea for change into a law.

First, refer to the “How a Bill Becomes a Law” media.

    http://lc.gcumedia.com/zwebassets/courseMaterialPages/nrs440v_how-a-bill-becomes-a-law-v2.1.php/.

Then, view the “Bill to Law Process” to watch the scenario.

After viewing the scenario, refer to the “Legislative Assignment.” You will need to save the document first in order to use it.

After reviewing the Module 4 Case Study and your assignment, suppose that Betty Smith went home that evening and created a PowerPoint presentation delineating her proposed solution to this dilemma that is full of stats, research, and examples that she will share with her colleagues at the upcoming meeting. Please create the PowerPoint presentation on her behalf.

    SLP ASSIGNMENT EXPECTATIONS

Prepare a PowerPoint presentation (15-30 slides) full of stats, research, and examples delineating your position on bringing guns to work for protection and to prevent workplace violence.

Read the attachment and answer 10 questions

The worksheets focus on the core historical, philosophical, and musical concepts of this course. In doing these worksheets, you will have an opportunity to synthesize material, listen and comment on musical examples, and offer you own observations on various aspects of the material.

Feel free to answer the questions in any format that suits you—for example, you many want to alternate between regular prose with answering in “bullet-style.” Please remember that the class operates on a point accrual system, so there is no penalty for answering some but not all of the questions.

I do insist that you answer the questions in your own words. I do this for two reasons: first, the concepts will be more thoroughly “yours” when you express them in your own way; second, using somebody else’s words as your own is a violation of the Foothill College Academic Honesty Policy. According to the Foothill College Honor Code–which you agreed to abide by when you signed up for the course–plagiarism consists of:

“undocumented web source usage” as well as:
“incorporating the ideas, words, sentences, paragraphs or
parts of another person’s writings without giving
appropriate credit, and representing the product as your
    own.”

As stated in the Honor Code, the consequences of academic dishonesty are severe:

“Academic and/or administrative sanctions may be applied in
cases of academic dishonesty. Depending on the seriousness of
    the infraction, you may:

    1. Receive a failing grade on the test, paper or exam.

    2. Have your course grade lowered.

    3. Receive an F in the course.

    4. Be placed on disciplinary probation.

    5. Be placed on disciplinary suspension.

    6. Be expelled”

You are permitted to quote the text once in a while, and an informal citation (for example: Kerman, p. 117) is ok, but you must take care not to overdo it. Please review the guidelines for avoiding plagiarism and for correct paraphrasing in Start Here. Lastly, just a reminder that while collaborative work is fine and even encouraged, each student must submit their own answers. Good luck!

    ***********************************************************************

Worksheet 7 (based on Chapters 21-22 from the textbook)

    1. What are the characteristics of Impressionism in music? What elements of Impressionism do you detect in Debussy’s “Clouds?”

    2. What do you find most interesting about Igor Stravinsky’s career?

    3. Who or what commissioned Stravinsky to compose “The Rite of Spring?” What is it about? What relationship does “The Rite” have with the artistic movement known as Fauvism?

    4. When did “The Rite of Spring” premiere, and how was it received? What factors contributed to such a reception?

    5. Listen to Part 1 of Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring”. Discuss a few features of the style of this music that made it such a radical departure from Romanticism.

    6. As you read the brief biography of Arnold Schoenberg, what strikes you as most interesting? Though little of his music is regularly performed, Schoenberg is widely regarded as the most influential composer of the 20th century. How does one account for this?

    7. Listen to Schoenberg’s “The Moonfleck” from his expressionistic masterpiece, Pierrot Lunaire (it’s very short, not quite two minutes). Who wrote the poetry? Among the innovations found in this piece, Schoenberg invented a new singing style called, “Sprechstimme”. This new singing technique would later be adopted some seventy years later by a few alternative rock and roll bands, notably, Nine Inch Nails. What specifically is Sprechstimme? Why would Schoenberg want the singer to use this singing style in regard to Pierrot Lunaire (in other words, why couldn’t the singer just sing the words in a normal fashion)?

    8. In comparing Pierrot and The Rite, which one represents a greater break from Romanticism? Why? (Hint: consider which piece is still tied to expressing emotion and which is not).

    9. What are the characteristics of Hungarian folk music? When Bela Bartok integrated Hungarian folk music into his own, what effect did this have compared to the modernist music of Stravinsky and Schoenberg?

    10. Copland’s “Appalachian Spring” won the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1945. Please listen to this music and compare it to “The Moonfleck” by Schoenberg that you listened to earlier. Copland’s piece was written as part of a ballet; “The Moonfleck” is part of a song cycle. Name two other important differences between these two pieces. Which piece do you like best? (Make sure you name important differences. If you say, for example, that one piece was written by an American and the other by an Austrian, that wouldn’t be an important difference. Concentrate on the music, the style of each piece, instrumentation, harmonic and melodic differences, etc.).

    Plagiarism, Response Post 1 help

Reply to your classmate who explored a different scenario than that which you examined. Will the advice they provided be helpful in the future for the individual in the scenario? What might your classmates add to their advice to make it even more helpful? 50 words or more.

I am truly surprised at how often plagiarism happens. How these people in this video plagiarized knowingly and still proceed with plagiarism  anyway. This is a crime and there are consequences to our actions. What this means for me and my work, is very scary thought! I will definitely be more careful and give myself plenty of time in completing my work. Now aware of the resources, I can use to reassure my work. This will be very helpful and I will use it for my own security.

I have to admit that I was wasn’t very knowledgeable in this topic, until i started here at Ashford. Since I have started here, I am aware of  plagiarism and know of the consequences of committing plagiarism. Not only can you fail your course, but you can be kicked out of the university for this crime. This is a crime of steeling other peoples work and you can be sued.

I am not really aware of myself ever committing plagiarism in my own lifetime.  Most definitely aware of what plagiarism is and how you commit it. This is by stealing other peoples words and using them as your own. Cutting and pasting other peoples work as your own and not crediting them for it is also plagiarizing. Always use your our own words and be checking your work for safety.

My last name beings with M, so I am doing scenario 2.

Kelly the most important thing to do now, is make sure you are citing your sources before finalizing your paper. Plagiarism is a serious crime and you will be held accountable for it. There is things you can do to make sure your not in violation of plagiarizing the author. Make sure to always use your own words, give credit to the author, and use turnitin program to reassure your work. Always reread and use all resources to reassure your work before submitting.

    Anthropology, writing homework help

Choose either Option A or Option B. Formulate an initial post in which you address the points noted in the prompt for your chosen option.

    Optionon A: Assimilation

The textbook discusses the process of assimilation. After viewing the film, Indian School: Stories of Survival, answer the following questions:

      • What is the definition of assimilation according to your textbook?
      • What were you most surprised to learn from the film?
      • Why did the American government decide to assimilate Native American children into Western culture?
      • How did this affect them long term?
      • Is assimilating others into another culture ever justified?

      Option B: Cultural Relativism

Cultural relativism asserts that every culture has its own set of customs and beliefs, and that culture must be understood by the standards and values of the people within that culture. Anthropologists think that what might seem cruel or irrational in our own culture must be seen through the lens of cultural relativity, and that all cultures have practices or beliefs that can be seen by others as repugnant or incomprehensible.

After reading The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, explain whether you think cultural relativism can coexist with the idea of universal human rights. Is it possible for anthropologists to promote human rights without imposing their own values and ideas of human rights? Explain your position.

Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. Support your claims with examples from the required materials and/or other scholarly sources. Cite your sources in the body of your post and provide a complete reference for each source used at the end of it. By Day 7, respond to at least two of your peers, including
