Turning Off, Dining In

Last night at dinner, I suddenly realized that no one around our table had said anything for quite a while. I looked at my son, who had headphones on and whose face was aglow with the white-blue light of his phone on which he was watching a YouTube video. My daughter was also bathed in this same glow, but a tap-tap-tap was coming from her phone as she was texting a friend. My husband didn’t have a phone but was reading The Economist. I almost announced to my family that it was rude to bring phones or read at the table, but then I noticed that my own phone was right next to me. I tried to justify its presence to myself by reasoning that I thought my sister might call—she’s been having a rough time at work. But then I realized that I do generally have my phone with me at dinner and I often use it to catch up on personal email.

I remember growing up and eating dinner with my mother and sister almost every night. There was a routine. Mom would cook, and my sister and I would take turns setting the table and cleaning up. This routine made sure that for at least an hour, we were all present in the same room with our hands occupied so that we were forced to acknowledge each other’s existence, and maybe even talk. It wasn’t always easy—adolescence is a stormy period—but at least we were present with each other.

I don’t remember specific conversations that we had—nothing life changing most of the time—but generally we offered an account of how we had spent our time that day and what the schedule was likely to be tomorrow. It was also a time for negotiations about weekend plans, whether I could borrow the car, whether my sister could buy a designer shirt, and why that shirt was very necessary for her. Even though my parents split when I was young, I think these dinners helped us stay out of trouble, while other kids of divorced parents found it a bit too easy to evade the distracted attention of harried parents.

It seems to me that smartphones are slowly eroding connected quality time for families, and at no other time does this become more clear than at dinner time, which has traditionally been a time to reconnect and reinforce relationships through conversation.

I found that there’s actually research backing up my views on this. According to a study printed in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, the mere presence of a cell phone can decrease the quality of one-on-one conversation. Researchers Andrew K. Przybylski and Netta Weinstein of University of Essex, UK demonstrated that interpersonal closeness and trust are less likely to form when a phone is present during a conversation about a meaningful topic. In addition, research subjects who conversed with a phone present reported that they felt their conversation partners had less empathy toward them (244).

Closeness, trust, and empathy are all important factors in family relationships. If a parent-child relationship lacks these characteristics, children are much more likely to operate independently of parents, often to their disadvantage. But parents are also more likely to miss key moments in their children’s lives, finding that they know more about a colleague’s project than their child’s recent soccer game.

In a different study, cell phones were also found to reduce “prosocial” behaviors and lead to dehumanization. University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business found that after using a cell phone—or even thinking about using their cell phone—research participants were more likely to dehumanize strangers and were less charitable (Waytz and Epley 74). Although not often acknowledged, the relationship between parents and their children is prone to dehumanization and stereotyping: Children may think their parents are artifacts of a bygone era and don’t “get” them, and parents may think that their children aren’t mature enough to have real feelings or make important decisions for themselves. Is it possible that in an already-strained relationship, texting with friends or checking email while eating with your family might encourage more “us vs. them” thinking about family members?

So would putting down the smartphone at dinner ensure that families stay connected and children make it to adulthood without too much turmoil? Those who have studied the question can’t provide a definitive answer. Some recent research has shown that while families who eat dinner together do see healthier, happier children, this relationship is one of correlation rather than causation. Children fared best in families with strong relationships between parents and children, participation in shared activities, effective monitoring, and financial resources, whether or not these families ate dinner together. However, a family with all of these characteristics is more likely to choose to have dinner together on a routine basis (Musick and Meier 492).

But even if dinner together is not a cure-all for the modern turmoil of adolescence, it is a shared activity, an opportunity to develop strong relationships, for parents to find out information about their children’s lives that will help them keep their kids out of trouble. And dinner is a good candidate for family quality time. The process of preparing, eating, and cleaning up a meal makes it a good “togetherness” task. If the whole family is going to eat at the same time, they may as well sit in the same place, and so they should probably just agree to treat that time as family time. People have recently begun various techniques for detaching from the technology, including screen-free weekends (weekends where people spend time actually doing stuff rather than watching TV, viewing the internet, or messaging with friends), screen-free evenings, and even screen-free weeks or months. These are generally a hard sell for modern teens. But a screen-free dinner is a good compromise that may lead to stronger relationships.

week assignment 4

PURPOSE: This assignment provides students the tools to improve their personal financial health by developing, tracking, and following through with personal savings goals.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Keeping a budget and paying off credit card bills are great starts to financial security. However, without putting money aside for the future, one may never be able to stop working, or to enjoy activities or vacations he or she wants to experience. In order to accomplish those things, a person needs to set savings goals and stick to them. This assignment provides practice setting a savings goal.

Of course, in some ways setting the goal is the easy part. Keep in mind that in order to achieve this financial goal it must also be added into a monthly budget. That may mean giving up something today in order to achieve the goal. For instance, one 4 dollar coffee drink at a favorite shop each day actually costs 120 dollars a month, and 1440 dollars a year. How much could a person save making his or her own coffee in the morning?

  1. This assignment provides you the opportunity to practice planning savings goals. You will first set a specific savings goal (making sure it is a SMART goal). You will then calculate how much money you need to save and for how long you need to save in order to reach your goal. Reference the attached worksheet for complete assignment details.

Comprehensive Professional Growth Plan for applying performance based assessment

Comprehensive professional growth plan is aligned to improving and developing the quality of education and diversity of students produced. Professional development plans are focused in the areas of student achievement and instructional programs designed to meet the individual needs of the diverse student population. The most applicable strategies in developing a comprehensive growth plan will be a combination of observation, collaborative reflection, and performance evaluation.

A performance schedule is developed for all the staff members as a way to ensure that they are actively involved in the achievement of the goals and vision of the school. I will observe teachers as they offer lessons to students while they will also be required to present an overview of the work they do throughout the course. Meeting will frequently be held with the staff members to assess the performance and identify areas that need improvement. A one-year assessment of the teacher starting in August will be done according to the strategies used in teaching them their application of the appropriate curriculum and its improvement of the performance of students is also assessed (Kim et al., 2014). The outcomes from the assessment will then be used to carry out the comprehensive strategies in improving their performance and rewarding them.

Performance lists for the students will also be used to inform the effectiveness of the adapted strategies. Each teacher is required to evaluate the given strategies, their strengths, weakness and challenges they encounter in the process of offering education to the students (Kim et al., 2014). Meetings will be held between teachers from the different levels to speak about their problems in the different situation of engaging in improvement activities. More so, I will send surveys to parents to enquire about the new assessment and its effects on their children as an evaluation measure.

August: Recruit, attract, develop, and retain highly qualified staff to carry out the teaching in Fairhill and building mission, vision, values and goals of the school. I will recruit highly qualified Staff by implementing this goal after communicating the vision of our school. Some essential questions to ask during the recruitment include; How can we ensure that all teachers are engaged in high quality professional development? Objective: 100% of staff will be supported through professional development opportunities by planning for seminars, conferences and exchange programs with other similar schools catering for students with special needs and those that are ready and willing to implement the Google class room technology and the performance based assessments.

September: Acquire resources to empower and inspire students on how to embrace the performance based assessments. The school management and building-level stakeholders will engage in a collaborative, data-driven process to evaluate and plan the school and building resources that support student learning through continuous improvement, the meetings will discuss in detail what it takes to support each student with a special need and how to make their learning more efficient. These will also encompass events that will help specialized groups be incorporated in the school system and feel as part of it and that they are playing a role in the overall performance of the school. For example, first year teachers, mentor and coaches will attend cohesion seminars to facilitate bonding and hence learning.

October: Integrate the parents and guardians in promoting technology and assessment of the performance based assessment method of learning. Parents and guardians will fill out questionnaires and give their feedback on. Also, parents and guardians will receive training in the continuous classroom improvement process and the Google classrooms so that they can mentor and help their children at home to and have a better understanding of the concept. They will also monitor and evaluate the progress of their children in school. These will happen for all parents whose children are enrolled in Fairhill school. This will make the parents more involved in their children’s academic improvement and life development.

November: All certified and support staff will be trained in continuous improvement and show evidence of how learning cycles are used to support student learning and department/program effectiveness. These will be done monthly to review consolidate the skills. Holding training sessions and fun activities which will review the PBAs and their general impact other than the improvement in academics and grades these will enable raising of a holistic generation that is diversified and technologically able to achieve and implement goals in organizations that they will work for.

December: The school will retain a highly qualified staff and attract top notch talent by; continually evaluating the ability to offer employees excellent experiences in areas such as compensation, resources, working conditions, and recognition in an effort to promote a positive, student-centered climate and culture. I will review and emphasize on how to attract and retain highly qualified teachers. I will give the employees a questionnaire every three months to evaluate their level of satisfaction. Moreover, implement a revised teacher and administrator evaluation model that meets state and federal requirements while fostering continuous improvement and student outcome reflection. In addition, I will promote a positive workplace climate by providing employees quality experiences in key areas such as salaries, benefits, resources, class size, staff ratios and technology and Finally ensuring readiness in the personnel, technical, and organizational domains of the division in order to undertake the initiative, namely with regard the development and use of performance based assessments.

January: I will evaluate the students by interviewing them and giving them well formulated closed ended questionnaire to avoid bias. This will help us obtain a feedback from the students whether they are finding PBAS helpful or whether it is discouraging and demotivating them. This feedback will help us adjust the plan to achieve our mission and vision better as a school. The students will not only evaluate the system but also their teachers on how effectively they can use the Performance based assessments and Google classrooms for the students benefit.

February: Teachers will allocate and evaluate the performance tasks. Teachers should set tasks that will demonstrate which language knowledge and skills have been developed. The students’ performance on these tasks should illustrate what they have learned and the degree to which they have achieved the teaching goals. Performance tasks should be real life, motivating, challenging and appropriate to students’ language level and cognitive ability. Foundation level tasks will be simple and structured, and as students become more proficient and independent, the tasks will become more complex and less structured.

March: The teachers will work in process to understand the place of performance tasks in the overall teaching plan. The goals of a teaching unit will be assessed by a combination of traditional and alternative assessment methods. Some of them will be effectively assessed by performance tasks. Performance-based tasks should be undertaken mainly in class, rather than independently at home. Even if the task takes days or weeks, the teacher can work in different ways in the classroom: as a monitor – to see how the pair or group is working, or as a facilitator and supporter, with time to relate to individual students and track the learning process. Homework time is for improving and composing the final draft with help from parents as earlier stated; class time for thinking, planning, first drafts, collaboration and discussion. Teachers can therefore monitor each student’s progress and work more effectively. Problems can be identified as they occur and pupils assisted in overcoming them. It will also be much more difficult for students to present others’ materials as their own since there is a monitor.

April: Evaluate and review Google classrooms which encourage and promote the use of technology and information systems. For example, the purchasing and maintenance of more computers, laptops, white electrical boards and also improving the wireless network speeds, through buying more routers. This will make learning more efficient, global and informative for the students, hence achieving improved success. Furthermore, the fairhill elementary school as the school’s website, social media pages and email platforms provide a variety of technological resources, that not only improve learning in the classrooms, but also for advertising and recruiting teachers and other staff members who will enhance a more complete learning process.

May: Review the level of learning process that is we wanted to be careful not to “teach to the test” in preparing students for the performance-based assessment. We need to strike a balance between teaching the content (e.g., probability given two independent events) and preparing students for the task (e.g., interpreting the validity of a media resource). We brainstormed six different formative assessments that would need to be in place before students completed the performance task. However, we also acknowledged that this part of our plan would need to be constantly reviewed and revised depending on student learning needs.

June: Organize and analyze the data I collected from the reviews and evaluations, decide on the most appropriate type of graph to display this information in a way which supports arguments given and observe the trends and draw conclusions. These will help the superintendent and the management as a whole make decisions that will change organizational progress.

July: Use the information and conclusions drawn to make a recommendation on how to further improve and implement the technology and improve the performance based assessments. The recommendations will inspire the change of policies to better align them with the vision and mission of the school and achieve a better performance.

Implementing the above plan will positively impact on uptake of technology and Google classrooms and also on the use of performance based assessments in Fairhill school. By the end of the year, I expect that short-term goals of change will be achieved. However, consistency will be a major consideration to allow the plan to take charge within two years.

Vaslav Nijinsky choreographed the ballet The Rite of Spring, writing assignment help

Vaslav Nijinsky choreographed the ballet The Rite of Spring (Le Sacre du printemps) with music by Igor Stravinsky. The Rite of Spring showcases one of the most important aspects of modernism that emerged around the beginning of the First World War and exploded in the years following: the inclusion of “ugliness” in art. The depressed economy in Europe; the coal-powered, black-soot polluted cityscapes that came at the cost of urban industrialism; horrible working conditions; and the tragedy and horror of World War I combined with expressionism, decadence, impressionism, symbolism, the new field of psychology, and a dozen other prewar artistic and philosophical movements to create a European artistic climate focused on ugly subjects, situations, and styles that had been avoided in the past.

Stravinsky and Nijinsky’s Rite of Spring caused a riot in 1913 when it premiered. It was called ugly, a cacophony of sound, and more like lurching and stomping than ballet. Watch The Rite of Spring and write down each element, musical or visual, that you believe is ugly.

Length of main text: 2 full pages (not including heading and references)

Format: 1” margin, Times New Roman font size 12, and double space

Statistics references

Begin by identifying a potential research topic/issue of personal interest as the basis for a fictitious study.

Create your fictitious study, including the following components in APA format: 1) introduction, 2) statement of the problem, 3) purpose of the study, 4) a research question with corresponding hypotheses (null and alternative), 5) research method, 6) findings, 7) conclusions, 8) references, and 9) appendix.

Closely follow the Signature Assignment template listed below. Please note the Signature Assignment only involves fictitious collected data or only data you have created; do not, under any circumstances, collect real data from real sample participants because an Institutional Review Board (IRB) review will not occur.

Introduction

The introduction section should involve a brief (1-page) background of the topic to be researched with at least three recent (within the past 5 years) peer-reviewed sources.

Statement of the Problem

The statement of the problem should be an abbreviated problem statement involving one sentence, beginning with “The problem is…” It should not indicate the intent or the purpose of the study; keep the focus only on the problem to be researched within your fictitious study.

Purpose of the Study

The purpose of the study should be an abbreviated purpose statement involving one sentence, such as “The purpose of this quantitative (design) study is to…” (e.g., The purpose of this quantitative quasi-experimental group-comparison study is to…). Ensure your purpose statement is closely aligned with your problem statement in content and wording. Keep the focus on the intent or purpose of the study, not on the problem to be addressed.

Research Question and Hypotheses

The research question should indicate what your fictitious study will attempt to address. Your research question should be a question eliciting more than a yes/no response. Avoid beginning your research question with yes/no wording such as “do,” “does,” or “will.” Your research question should be formatted to clearly indicate what you are addressing (e.g., a relationship, an effect). Ensure your research question, null and alternative hypotheses, purpose statement, and problem statement are all aligned in content and wording. Be sure to use the following format:

Q1. State your research question here.

Ho: State your null hypothesis here.

Ha. State your alternative hypothesis here.

Research Method

The research method section should begin by noting the quantitative research methodology and corresponding design used to collect data (e.g., A quantitative quasi-experimental group comparison approach was used to…), followed by a description of the targeted larger population, the sample size and how the sample was identified from the larger population, what data were collected, the data collection procedure, and how data were analyzed noting the specific statistical analysis procedures used. Your statistical analysis of the collected data should involve descriptive and inferential statistics resulting in a test for statistical significance. Generate a mock set of data to include at least 50 sample participants and at least three variables (at least one of these variables must involve interval or ratio data, and at least one of these variables must involve ordinal or nominal data).

Findings

The findings section should involve an explanation of the SPSS results from the statistical analyses conducted on the collected fictitious data combined with at least one table or figure.

Conclusions

The conclusions section should involve a discussion of how the statistical results could be applied to the larger population.

References

The reference section should include all of the peer-reviewed sources cited in your fictitious study.

Appendix

The appendix section should include the actual fictitious data set used in your fictitious study and all of the copied and pasted SPSS output.

Support your assignment with at least five scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.

Length: 12-15 pages, not including title and reference pages

Your assignment should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards where appropriate.

I’ll send the data once the assignment is accepted.

My first questions is : why do most of jews not believe in jesus? ( The paper will be about this question the most)

My second question is : Describe some of the problems in today’s world that seem to be involved with religion and some ways religion can help inter-group and international understanding.

The paper should be between 1000-1500 words

Just to let you know I already chose the questions which I listed above, so in file that is called “Part 1” you only need to read and get an idea. The other files describes the paper how it should be organized and what you should include.

Read the files in order and let me know if you have any question

Thank you.

Math Comfort Level reply, writing homework help

Discussion Four

Autumn Hayes

This was a great math refresher course. There were some really simple concepts that I haven’t seen or practiced in a while. It was nice to get some practice with those before seeing them in the classroom and having to teach them to young students. I’ve always enjoyed math, and although there was some challenging content to learn and relearn, overall I had a positive experience. I also really liked the Virtual Manipulative website. It was very beneficial to become familiar with these resources that are available to use in our classroom once we graduate and begin our elementary teaching careers. The only thing I would add into this course, or that I thought would be included in this course was techniques for teaching math to elementary students. Those techniques, along with the review of CCSS for Mathematics, and the Virtual Manipulative discussions would have me feeling more prepared to teach mathematics then just the last two alone.

IFSM370 Prince Georges Community FractalApps Network Diagram Essay

Introduction

This is an individual project. This project is related to the Case Study project. Each student must complete a Network Diagram that illustrates the placement of network components. The foundation for this project is the requirements analysis and proposal document that you completed for the Case Study project. The Network Diagram deliverable is an MS Word document.

The completed Network Diagram deliverable is due by 11:59 PM Eastern Time on the due date shown in the Course Schedule.See the Additional Information section of the syllabus for the penalty for late or missed assignments and projects.

The Network Diagram is valued at 10% of the course grade.

Case Study

Company Overview

FractalApps is a software development start-up. It was founded by three friends who went to undergrad school together at the University of Maryland. They founded their startup recently and set up headquarters at the condo of the two founders in Washington, DC.They have focused their attention on mobile app development and have developed and successfully marketed a popular app for job seekers. Now they are expanding their company into a full-fledged software development house.

They have recently received a cash infusion from an angel investor in Silicon Valley and are ready to build out their business.Their plan is to have three locations:a small headquarters in DC where the founders and senior staff reside, a sales office based in NYC (Brooklyn), and a development house in San Francisco where the bulk of the developers live and work.

They are looking for you to develop a network design for their business. They are seeking a standardized LAN design (using consistent hardware/software) for the three offices, and a cost-effective WAN design that allows all of their staff to communicate and collaborate quickly, efficiently, without a lot of network delay. The network should support both their voice and data needs.

Further, they require a secure way for mobile workers to remote in to the network and participate as if they were in the office. Many of the sales staff are in the field, as well as the development staff who want to be able to work practically anywhere.A VPN solution is what they are seeking but need guidance on what the hardware/software requirements are.

The Deliverable

For this assignment, you will use your proposed solution for the FractalApps requirements analysis. Briefly describe the proposed technology solution and list the business requirements that are satisfied. This should be done on one to two pages. Then provide a detailed diagram that illustrates the placement of various communications components within the context of developing an effective solution for the FractalApps network.

Your deliverable is a one to four-page document that contains:

  • A recap of your proposed network (make sure you address all aspects of the network (LAN, WAN, VPN).
  • A detailed network diagram that shows the three FractalApps offices, the required LAN components, WAN technology and components, and VPN components (for both the office and mobile).
  • The Network diagram can be developed using any drawing applications (MS Visio or PowerPoint, CAD, etc., but needs to be in a pdf or docx format).I will even accept hand-drawn diagrams (take a high-res photo of your diagram and upload it with your Word document). You may submit multiple diagrams (one for the LANs, one showing the WAN technology components, and VPN network), and one high-level diagram that shows the interconnections between the three offices.

Your deliverable will be scored according to the Scoring Rubric below. Be sure you have incorporated all required aspects of the assignment.

The Uniform Crime Report (UCR) Assessment, writing homework help

Part 1

The Uniform Crime Report (UCR) categorizes crimes into two categories: Part I Offenses and Part II Offenses. Discuss the types of crimes included in each of the UCR categories. Select at least two crimes from Part I and two crimes from Part II of the UCR, and identify the types of impacts that each of these crimes has on society. Evaluate how society reacts to each of these crimes and the offenders committing the crimes.  Your essay response must be a minimum of 500 words.

Part 2

Victims can be found throughout all segments of any society. Understanding victims often requires categorizing them by common characteristics (e.g., location, social patterns, etc.). Select three different characteristics by which victims may be categorized. Define the unique characteristics that make a victim a member of each group. Compare and contrast the factors that are used to group these types of victims together. Discuss how grouping victims into these unique groups assists criminology researchers in understanding deviance from the perspective of those directly impacted by crime. Your essay response must be a minimum of 500 words.

Operational overview of Southwest Airlines. Why is the company so successful?, assignment help

Please analyze Southwest Airlines, identify the reasons why the company has been successful in the unattractive industry, and predict its future. You need to research the company, using a variety of reliable sources such as books, journal articles, library database, trustworthy news media, credible Web sources, etc. After collecting relevant information, you need to evaluate and draw conclusions based on deductive reasoning. Your response should include the following segments:

  1. Operational overview of Southwest Airlines. Why is the company so successful?
  2. Current economic condition of the airline industry. How would this affect Southwest Airlines?
  3. Current operational issues or challenges within Southwest Airlines. How can Southwest Airlines take on the issues or challenges?
  4. Trends for the future within the operational segment. How can Southwest Airlines remain competitive in the future?

To effectively address the above questions, you are expected to write an evaluation essay (with the headings preferred) using deductive reasoning. Here are a few tips:

  • The purpose of an evaluation essay is to present an opinion or viewpoint on a subject or body of work. The writer should firstly provide a summary of the company in question, then present a point-of-view supported with clear examples and evidence, using a thorough, well-structured argument so that the evaluation seems reasoned and unbiased.
  • Deductive reasoning starts with a general principle and deduces that it applies to a specific case. Deductive reasoning moves with exacting precision from the assumed truth of a set of premises to a conclusion which cannot be false if those premises are true. Explain the deductive reasoning process applied to analyze the firm’s performance.

Please type up answers in MS Word, font 12, double-spaced. The assignment must be at least three pages in length.

Remember to properly cite all your sources using APA style.

define crictal thinking

Paragraph One

Begin by writing your own definition of critical thinking. Consider the following questions to guide your definition:

  • What does it mean to think critically?
  • What is the difference between thinking and thinking critically?
  • What do we gain or lose by thinking critically?

Paragraphs Two, Three, and Four

Once you have your definition of critical thinking, look up the definition for each of the three words listed above, and, in a paragraph for each word, use those definitions to describe how each of them apply to your definition of critical thinking. Be sure to identify the source or sources where you found your definitions. If you use any direct words from a source, be sure to place those words in quotation marks.

Paragraph Five

In your concluding paragraph, give an example or examples of a time or times when you applied critical thinking in your own life.

Your completed assignment should be written primarily in first person and should be 500-750 words in length. If you use sources in your writing, be sure to identify them. If you use any direct language from a source, be sure to place those words in quotation marks

10-page research paper on any topic of interest to Korean religion

Write a 10-page research paper on any topic of interest to Korean religion. Your paper may be comparative, if you wish (i.e. comparing Korea to China or Japan). The professor would prefer a paper that focuses on religious practice rather than doctrine, although doctrine may be allowed. Your paper should be based on substantial reading beyond the required reading for the course, but should touch on some of the topics of the course either to explore them in more detail or present alternative viewpoints. Some possible book sources are below, but there are many others. Be sure to organize your paper around a thesis that can be right or wrong (see file below).

write two paragraphs answering the quest related to dance define intrinsic and extrinsic, writing homework help

Step One

BEFORE GOING ANY FURTHER, let’s define intrinsic and extrinsic. The Accelerated Motion website defines these in relation to dance very clearly:

  • Intrinsic elements include everything you can discern from observing the dance.
  • Extrinsic elements include any contextual information, interpretation, or evaluation the observer brings to viewing such as “They are wearing clothes from the 1980s” (depends on observer’s previous knowledge); “They are happy” (interpretation); or “They are terrific dancers” (evaluation). Extrinsic factors enable us to make connections, put information in context, and make judgments.

View the clips of Adowa, Sabar, and Masai (see Lesson 6 Viewings) and write down as many intrinsic elements as you can about each of the three dance forms. If you say, “They are terrific dancers,” look at the intrinsic elements that perhaps made you say that; for example, “They are jumping high and performing rhythmic footwork.” As you watch, create your lexicon. Write down things you observe that include 3 component descriptions and that address the “Elements of Dance” and “Compositional Devices” we have been practicing. These are the intrinsic elements. It should only be what you see the bodies doing and how they are moving.

Moving into the extrinsic by using the intrinsic:

  1. What features of each dance form resemble other video clips you have viewed? Do any of these remind you of other things you have seen this quarter?
  2. What effect does the dancing have on you?
  3. What clues might that effect give you about how we are supposed to witness each dance? About what the people who do the dances find beautiful?
  4. What is the effect of repetition and unison?
  5. Why do you think people practice/perform/DO these dances?

Now for the tough questions:

  1. How do you make sense of what you see?
  2. How might intrinsic elements give you clues to the meaning of this dance?

Note: the questions above are to prepare you to write the two paragraphs below and do not need to be submitted.

Step Two

Write two paragraphs that describe the 3 dance forms.

In the first paragraph describe the intrinsic elements only of each of the three dance forms.Keep in mind this is description of bodies moving ONLY. This paragraph should include 3 component descriptions. (100-200 words)

The second paragraph should address the extrinsic elements by comparing, contrasting and deciphering what you think each dance form represents. Think deeply here. (100-200 words)

Here is an example!
The Adowa
dances show an intrinsic element in the way the performers move their
feet in many different directions but to the beat of the music and sway
slightly side to side, while occasionally using their shoulders but very
little distal arm movement. Their hands hold up their dress as they
quickly move their feet with purpose and strength. The Masai
dance choreography mainly involves a line of performers standing side by
side and taking turns stepping out of line and jumping up and down
multiple times. No other body movements are involved besides the spring
of their legs into the air and the occasional bend in the knee until
they land flat footed on the ground. The dancers are very light on their
feet as they bound in to the air and are very rhythmic to their
movements. The Sabar choreography involves very quick and
dramatic movements, with very fast pace knee raises and feet kicking
around, in the air and on the ground. They twirl around wildly and fast
while their bodies are light on the ground yet move freely.
At
first glance these dancers were like nothing I have every seen before.
The choreography s very unique and very particular to the culture and
music. Adowa dancing seems very particular to the music playing
and just flowing to the rhythm. The dances seem to take place at local
gatherings and festivals so they must be specific to the culture and
celebrations. The Masai dance seems to resemble their culture,
which might involve a lot of hunting, so the choreography of jumping
high would relate to physical ability and masculinity of those who are
physically strong and able to hunt and provide for their family. The Sabar
dance discuss how the dance resembled sexuality but it was unique
because the culture was very closely located to a city where sexuality
is not openly flaunted and shown, especially in front of the entire
town. The dances mainly involved women and their performance of skill
and fluid movement that might appeal to a significant other. All of
these dance forms were very unique but once studied closer, have a more
clear projection of their purpose.

Deploying and Scheduling Personnel

Identify the most favored and least favored shift schedules in the U.S. for police personnel. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of those three that are the most prominent.

Most favored schedule in the US is noted as the (5 -2 [8]) work schedule which means that you work 8 hours a day for 5 days with 2 days off.  This schedule provides for a set schedule and having enough ‘down time’ to be able to relax and sleep.  The disadvantages with this schedule may only be that if you want more time off it must be taken from annual or sick leave. The general times for this schedule range around 6a-2p, 2p-10p, 10p-6a with variations depending on the specific agencies. In some agencies, additional schedules may be implemented if it is noticed that an increase in criminal activity revolves around certain schedules, this is called overlapping and would look as such, having an additional schedule in the evening that covers the times around midnight when bars are closing (10p – 6a) might also have a shift that came in from (7p – 3a) (Peak et al, 2010, p. 302).

Least favored schedule in the US is  noted as the (4 -3 [10]) work schedule which means that you work 10 hours a day for 4 days with 3 days off. This schedule provides more days off but the work times are longer. Despite some officers preferring this schedule, the percentage of those agencies that currently use it is only 27.2% (Peak et al, 2010, p. 302).

Compare permanent shifts versus rotating, including advantages and drawbacks of both.

Police agencies do not have the luxury of taking days off. Their responsibility is to ensure and protect the public’s safety at all times of the day and night.  Accomplishing this responsibility forces every agency to work both day and night, which for some can be a challenge.  The human body is designed with an ‘internal clock’ known as its circadian rhythm, which tells us that day time is for being awake and night time is for sleeping.  This rhythm inherently conflicts with police work because if you work a rotating shift you will have to work night time shifts on a regular interval. As Peak et al (2010) tells us,

‘The majority of officer’s work rotating shifts or at night, which means drowsiness and fatigue are a way of life. According to one study, 90 percent of officers reported driving on duty while drowsy; one-fourth said they had actually fallen asleep while at the wheel. This is obviously a problem that cannot be ignored—particularly if an officer has shift work sleep disorder (SWSD), and experiences problems falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up.’ (Peak et al, 2010, p. 304)

Because of the psychological and physiological effects that rotating shift can have on someone, perhaps permanent shifts may be better, as, if you are permanently on day shift (6-2, 7-3, 8-4) then you will have your relax and down time during your body’s normal down time phase (evening – night). The main advantage to rotating shift is that if officers want to experience their environment at a different time of the day, to experience the variations of activity, this would be a good way to do it.

The most basic advantage to permanent shift schedules are their simplicity. There is no figuring out whose turn it is to switch shifts and officers do not have to re-adjust their bodies sleep schedule on a regular basis. There is also more ease of schedule court appearances and the scientific proof that officers prefer permanent shifts over rotating (Peak et al, 2010, p. 305).

What is the role of police unions in shift scheduling?

No matter what shift schedule an agency uses there are laws and unions that have a say in the decision making process of which type of schedule is used and protecting the officers well – being to ensure their productivity while on duty. As a way to ensure sufficient pay for law enforcement officers, the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) that was initiated in the 1930’s to protect the rights and working conditions of employees in the private sector, brought law enforcement under its umbrella in 1985 via congress.  This forced agencies to pay not time (hourly wage) and a half overtime, if officers worked beyond 40 hours, but also a second overtime if the officer went past 43 hours in a 7 day time frame, including K-9 units and equestrians (horses) (Peak et al, 2010, p. 305/6). This protection, although subsequently deemed ‘a nightmare’ by many agencies, protected officers from being forced to work beyond reasonable hours, for basic pay. Police unions, in this process, protect the police officers (human, canine & equestrian) and make sure that all benefits are provided and reinforced during contract negotiations.

What impact does shift work have on family members? Do you think family should be considered in making decisions regarding which shift an officer should be employed on? Why or why not?

I take this question on a personal note. My father who is a retired Baltimore City Police Detective Sergeant – Vice Squad spent his entire career working rotating shifts (8-4, 4-12, 12-8). I saw him come and go at various times of the day, I saw him sleep in the very early mornings after working all night and I asked him one time, “how can you sleep with sunshine pouring through the window?”, and he said to me “it’s not normal but it’s my job and there are days when I can barely think while I’m going to work, but I do it and I don’t complain because it was my decision to do this for my family”. Rotating shifts are difficult for the officer and their family. The varying schedule messed with their body, their brain, and yes their moods, which all affect their family and relationships.  My father’s rotating shift was for 28 days at a time (1 month), and every 28 – days he changed his shift. The best shift for him was day shift (8-4) it was the shift that felt most normal and helped his mood and allowed us to spend time with him. The worst shift for him was midnight (12-8) because he saw us for about 2 hours a day of which was evening hours when us kids were usually otherwise occupied.  Should families be considered in making decisions regarding which shift an officer should be employed on? Yes.  An officer has family, even if it is just parents that they talk to and relax with and when you take an officers physical and psychological energy away from them, there is no communication, there is simply a shell. Years after my father retired he said to me, “I missed you kids growing up and I wish I could have worked a set schedule”.

Virtual Manipulative, discussion help

Here is another reply for a list 100 words. Here is the post.

I chose Pre-K-2 numbers and operations on the National Library of Virtual Manpulatives website.

The first Virtual Manipulative I chose was color patterns as one of the topics that interested me the most because I think it is important for students to be able to recognize similarities along with differences when it comes to math and learning in general. It is important for students to recognize patterns because they need to realize there is consistency and how that applies to math. Math is very constant and is a continuous learning block where everything builds upon itself. Color patterns can be used in the classroom by using color coding assignments that have to be put in order and anything that is consistent. Knowing patterns and being able to see them is a life skill. Its important to learn patterns because everything in life holds some kind of consistency.

The other topic within the Pre-K-2 grade band under numbers and operations I chose was Fraction-naming. Fraction-naming is important for students to know and apply because fractions are always used and is continually carried on while learning math. Another reason it stood out to me is I think it also is important for students to learn because that is how we divide things in life. You have to be able to see a pie or a pizza and decipher the parts of it. If the pie has 10 slices and I eat 4 what is that fraction look like? And what is left over? This can be used in the classroom because students need to be able to see parts of a whole while looking at numbers and fractions.

Technology plays a huge role in today’s mathematics classrooms because it is used much more frequently in society. Technology is in the center of attention in classrooms world wide because technology is starting to play a role in everything in our world. Anything we do now is likely influenced by technology in some way.

paragraph to Essay Revise

Do not copy from online or from the example

Its just a paragraph that I want you to revise it as Essay and there is an example with the same paragraph I will post it as file, but please do not write the same of the example. Also try your best because I have to get an A+ on this assignment.

the Paragraph:

Mr Marriott, my math teacher for all four years in high school, was a very demanding teacher. He expected perfection in all daily assignments in all courses, from intermediate algebra to college algebra. Assuming that we had all learned to add subtract, multiply and divide in the lower grades, he tolerated no inaccurate calculations. The smallest error always cost us four points our of a possible ten, and using the wrong formula was the quickest way to get an F. But he did not accept memorized formulas. Instead, he expected every student to understand the principle behind the formula, to know when to use it, and to know how to use it. We had to analyze the problems and gather the data necessary to reach the correct conclusions. The more math courses Itook from Mr. Marriott, the more demanding he became. In tenth grade he required extensive collateral reading for plane geometry. He would explain some principle in class, then give us extra reading which covered this same principle. Once a week he would write formula on the blackboard and list the books where we could find information about it. Everybody did the reading because in a couple of days he might give us a quiz on this material. Sometimes at the end of class he would give us a list of supplemental readings on whatever we had been discussing. In my final math course, college algebra, Mr. Marriott assigned several research papers. Sometimes he would make specific assignment like “Formulate an equation for a circle in 3-dimension” or “Write a short paper on some math genius,” or he would let us choose from a list of subjects. All of these papers were due a couple of days after they were assigned. In my final course Mr Marriott required a research paper of 500 words or more. We could choose any topic related to mathematics. I chose mathematical logic and wrote about symbolic logic. I did not realize the full value of this paper until the next year in college when I took a course in logic that covered most of the material in my paper. Though we sometimes thought Mr. Marriott was too strict, we learned a lot of mathematics.

Help me in the question below

As this class draws to an end, you covered a vast amount of material pertaining to business law. From the classifications of law, contract formation, illegal agreements and various types of property, to business ethics, you gained further insight into how businesses should operate.

For your final assignment, you will be creating a brochure that informs an audience as to all of the amazing topics that you covered. In your brochure you will need to include:

  1. A definition of Business Law and why one should study it.
  2. The difference between Business Law and Business Ethics.
  3. A list of topics covered with a brief description for each one. Remember this is a brochure so there will not be a ton of space. You want to hit the highlights from each week.
  4. A section on emerging trends related to business law.
  5. Key takeaways from this course. How will you use the information from this class?

The brochure that you are creating is to be a tri-fold design, double-sided. Draw attention to your brochure by using well-placed art, an easy to read design with your content, and use of color.

As with all assignments, use proper grammar and spelling. Although the Drop Box calls for a Microsoft Word document, you may utilize other software as you see fit.
