I need help creating a thesis and an outline on A Historical Perspective. Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide. An abstract is required. Since its inception in 1957, the Company has gone through significant changes. Being an opportunist and thanks to IBM and the Justice Department in 1956 when the entire computer industry was under the monopoly of IBM, Walter R. Oreamuno and his associate came up with an idea of re-purchasing the computer equipment from IBM customers and leasing it back to the customers at a lower rate than what was being offered by IBM. This idea was a great boast to the MAI’s growth but did not last that long. During this time, the Company opted for an IPO with the objective of raising the US $ 300, 000 from the public. The stock performed really well rising to the US $ 66 per share in 1966.

Not realizing IBM’s strategy of depreciating its punch card equipment and the innovation of 360 third generation computer, MAI invested substantially in the older equipment that resulted in MAI’s growth to stall. During 1967, a major setback on merger plans with Transamerica, Oreamuno stepped down as the CEO and was replaced by Luther Schwalm an ex-IBM veteran.

With a shift in strategy, the earlier investment in the older IBM equipment did not prove to be fertile, Schwalm decided to write-off the outdated older equipment. MAI’s cash flow was impacted so substantially that its net worth in 1970 was negative $ 28 million. Oreamuno’s decision proved out to be so wrong that even Schwalm was unable to bring the Company out of trouble. It was that when in 1971 MAI’s CFO took over as the President. With a new strategy, Kurshan reorganized MAI into a holding company with various subsidiaries. Basic/Four and Sorbus subsidiaries of MAI did well in bringing MAI back to life. Sorbus took advantage of MAIs’ existing 1,200-person maintenance staff as its core and expanding from there. Basic/Four was a major success instantaneously. In 1972, Basic/Four&nbsp.introduced the first multi-user transaction-processing mini-computer to use the Business Basic language.

Write 7 pages thesis on the topic concepts of activity based costing.

Write 7 pages thesis on the topic concepts of activity based costing. Cost accounting is very important for any organization as it covers processes of recording, allocating and classifying the expenditures for identifying the cost of products or services for the sake of presentation of the required accounting information to the higher authority or to the management. The major areas that are dealt with within the cost accounting are products, job order, and processes among others. Previously scope of cost accounting was limited to the manufacturing unit, but now with the formulation and enhancement of the improved and advanced procedures, cost accounting has also been adopted by the service industries. It denotes the emergence of cost accounting in the businesses. Considering this fact, it has been intended to highlight the methods of costing.&nbsp.

Before critically analyzing, the two concepts in terms of its comparison and contrast, it is important to develop the basic knowledge regarding both the concepts. The activity-based costing method is comparatively newer to the industry. Hence, it has been intended to emphasize the concept to concrete the base of the discussion.

ABC is an economic model and determines the activity centers or cost pools in an organization. It allocates cost to the cost drivers that have been based upon the number of each activity adopted. The activities that generate cost need to be determined and matched to the level of drivers while using activity-based costing. Though the cost drivers are linked with the activities, those can occur in the different phases. The unit-level drivers assume the&nbsp.enhancement of the inputs for every produced unit. Secondly, the batch level drivers assume the ‘variation of the inputs’ in every produced batch. Product level drivers presume the importance of the inputs to backup the production of different categories of the product. Finally, facility-level drivers are associated with the manufacturing process of the facility.

Hello, I am looking for someone to write an article on Economy and Clinton.

Hello, I am looking for someone to write an article on Economy and Clinton. It needs to be at least 1750 words. First, he contrived a national health insurance scheme in a manner more befitting a parliamentary government. Congress was not much involved in the design or political management of his plan. Worse, Clinton bungled the interest-group and popular politics of health reform. The managed competition scheme was complex, and it did not fire the public imagination. Politically, Clinton hoped to make a deal with the big employers and insurance companies, but this proved naive. In the end, both turned on him–and he didn’t have public opinion on his side as a counterweight.

Worse still, Clinton spent what remained of his political capital in 1993-1994, to ram the NAFTA deal through Congress. The plan was a leftover from the Bush administration. It badly split the Democrats, and it was not even wise geopolitics. In the end, Clinton got NAFTA enacted with heavy Republican support, dispiriting his own party. Republicans took control of Congress in the 1994 midterm elections, and Clinton deserves some of the blame.

What followed was, of course, a turn to the right. Clinton did play a weak hand well, helping Newt Gingrichs Republican Congress to overreach itself. But during the mid-1990s, Clinton himself tacked further to the right than the situation required. He embraced a Republican view of welfare reform. He went along with a brutal immigration bill and assaults on civil liberty in the name of crime control. He accepted the idea of a balanced budget–and then when an economic boom pushed the budget into surplus, he declared that he would pay off the entire national debt.

To a point, all this was a kind of tactical Dunkirk: a strategic retreat to enable the Democrats to fight another day. But this particular Dunkirk moved the fleet not just to Dover but to Bermuda. The entire center of gravity moved to the right. On most aspects of domestic policy, Bill Clinton has been to the right of Richard Nixon.

Need help with my writing homework on Rivers and Their Catchments: Physical Impacts of Agriculture.

Need help with my writing homework on Rivers and Their Catchments: Physical Impacts of Agriculture. Write a 2500 word paper answering; Many features of the dynamic river channel are mutually adjusting (Church 2002), the present rate at which human activities alter water or sediment supply has destabilized the existing channel shape, setting off a complex cascade of changes that have disrupted geomorphic processes and ultimately degrading the river habitat (Junk et al., 1989). Such actions, called potentially destabilizing phenomena (PDP) – or factors that are the most likely causes of management problems – must be tackled in developing sustainable river channel management solutions (Downs & Priestnall, 2003).

All river systems are vulnerable to the potentially deleterious impacts of agricultural activities but this report is focused on regions of humid mid-latitude climates mostly because of the exacerbating factors such as winter, frequent thunderstorms, and mid-latitude cyclones (Pidwirny, 2006) that contribute to detrimental effects of some aspects of agricultural practices and to emphasize the necessity of proper mitigation and management actions (Clark, n.d.). These destabilizing actions of agricultural activities are summarized in Table 1 and their causative relationship is discussed in detail in the following sections.

Agriculture requires the clearing of riparian vegetation and plowing to cultivate the soil (Clark, n.d.). Riparian vegetation allows the gradual infiltration of water that comes down as precipitation into the soil and without it, surface run-off increases (Odum, 1993). The increased surface run-off coupled with the loose soil due to cultivation results to increased sediment transport and soil erosion (Clark, n.d.. Allan, 2004). this effect is more pronounced during winter when soils are more exposed and transport is aggravated by&nbsp.stronger winds (Clark, n.d.).&nbsp.&nbsp.The increased run-off is usually mitigated by land drainage but this has resulted in the faster rise and fall of the water levels where the drainage is discharged (Clark, n.d.).&nbsp. The trampling of livestock, on the other hand, causes soil compaction which increases surface run-off further (Quinn 2000).&nbsp.

Hi, I am looking for someone to write an article on costs and benefits of financial globalization for developing countries

Hi, I am looking for someone to write an article on costs and benefits of financial globalization for developing countries Paper must be at least 2250 words. Please, no plagiarized work! In recent years, there has been a rise in the amount of capital that has been flowing into developing countries. Foreign companies investing in developing countries are significant in development (Ayhan Kose, Eswar Prasad, Kenneth Rogoff, and Shang-Jin Wei 2006: 15-19)

The developing countries are normally faced with problems of population explosion and insufficient resources to support the high populations. This creates the need for foreign capital to be introduced into the economy in order to take care of the deficit. Developing nations are also faced with a lack of skills and the appropriate technology to extract natural resources to boost the economy. Foreign investors are needed in order to bring the desired skills and technology. This indicates that there are several benefits that developing countries derive from financial globalization. However, there are disadvantages that are associated with this globalization. Developing countries tend to allow foreign investors after a comprehensive assessment of the costs and benefits of financial globalization to the economy.

When multinational organizations invest in developing countries, they promote economic development. They tend to introduce competition in the existing market system, compelling the domestic industry to become more effective in production in order to be competitive in the market. They help in the alleviation of monopolies within an economy, which may not be effective enough to satisfy the local demand. With this competition, industries tend to be innovative in order to keep their products ahead of the other competitors, which eventually leads to the production of high-quality goods in the developing economy.

Multinational companies bring in to market’s best practices in the developing economy. This comes in the form of technology transfer, due to the fact that they tend to be innovative and&nbsp.possess high levels of experience in various developed and developing economies where they have invested in the past.&nbsp.

Need help with my writing homework on Legal Environment of Business.

Need help with my writing homework on Legal Environment of Business. Write a 2000 word paper answering; All manufacturers and sellers seek to ensure that their products satisfy the customers’ needs and also meet the legal norms. The main responsibility of a business is to provide quality products to the customers, and also protect the market from illegal activities and sale of harmful and defective products. There are several Government Organizations instituted for controlling and protecting the market from illegal business activities like Black marketeering, adulterating and selling defective and dangerous products. These activities are illegal and are considered as offenses. All consumers purchase products for their use and they expect utility value from those products. When a consumer buys a product, he is solely liable for all problems that may arise from that product. A legal issue that may arise from this crisis in called Product Liability. The law protects the consumer from damaged or dangerous products. Usually manufactures use labels and other statutory warnings to inform the consumers about any problem associated with the products before they are bought, “Product liability refers to a manufacturer or seller being held liable for placing a defective product into the hands of a consumer.”(What is product liability? (2007) (http://injury.findlaw.com/defective-dangerous-products/defective-dangerous-products-law/defective-dangerous-products-law-overview.html). Normally the product liability Act requires that a product must meet the normal expectations of a buyer. Defective or dangerous products cannot meet the expectations of the buyers. In the US, product liability claims depend on the state laws and these laws vary from state to state. There is no federal product liability law, and mainly these laws are claimed depending upon negligence of the manufacturers. Product liability claims can only be entertained when the customers show the tangible defects of the product in Court. The manufacturer has a great responsibility to ensure&nbsp.quality in the production and sale of their goods.

Post by Day 3 an analysis (3–4 paragraphs) comparing revolutionary and civil rights movements in the United States and Latin America and the extent to which the changes desired by the people were or were not achieved and why.

Discussion: Industrialization, Revolution, and Civil Rights

“I look forward confidently to the day when all who work for a living will be one with no thought to their separateness as Negroes, Jews, Italians or any other distinctions. This will be the day when we bring into full realization the American dream — a dream yet unfulfilled. A dream of equality of opportunity, of privilege and property widely distributed; a dream of a land where men will not take necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few…” —Dr. Martin Luther King, 1963

During the Cold War era, North and South America underwent significant changes in both the areas of industrialization and urbanization. During this time, nations rode an economic roller coaster leading to the stratification of social and economic inequality. The widening socioeconomic gap between the status of people within these nations then led to civil unrest and the call for civil rights, equality, and respect. The growth in industrialization between these two continents resulted in high levels of great rural and urban sprawl.

As poverty increased in the Americas, groups that had historically been subordinate groups made their voices heard in their cry to escape the thumb hold of dominant groups. This uprising did not resonate well with dominant groups. During this time, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led the civil rights movement and fought for racial equality.

In these troubled times, the people of South America were facing similar struggles. They also witnessed battles between Socialist/Communist leaders, military leaders, and others that wanted to see democracy.

In this Discussion, you will explore the struggles of the people of both North and South America. You will share your thoughts as you discover which of these nations’ struggles were similar and which were different.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the Lukacs and Gould readings in our Learning Resources.
  • Review the L’Unita interview with Fidel Castro and Salvador Allende’s speech from this week’s Learning Resources.
  • With this week’s reading in mind, consider the various nationalist struggles for independence that followed in the post – World War II era.
  • Recall the challenges that the new leaders faced as civil rights movements increased.
  • Reflect upon poverty-stricken nations and what they might have endured in their quest for social change.
  • Correlate postwar industrialization, revolutionary, and civil rights movements in both North and South America.
  • Consider the struggles faced in North and South America. How were they different? Similar?

With these thoughts in mind:

What are the career goals that you have established as you complete your program of study?

MUST BE IN APA FORMAT.

See Word document for help (DO NOT USE ANYTHING FROM THE SAMPLE)!

2 page self-reflective essay that considers the following questions:

Career goal: To be a Human Resource Manager

1) What are the career goals that you have established as you complete your program of study?

2)How do the goals and learning outcomes of the course compliment your career goals?

3) What are some of the skills developed and enforced in this course that you will be able to transfer to your career? How do these skills support the development of communication competence, critical thinking, and problem solving?

4)What are some of the ways you will continue to develop these skills in your career path as part of your professional development and lifelong learning goals?

What are the career goals that you have established as you complete your program of study?

As of right now, my goal is simple… to further my education by going for my MAB as soon as I finish with my undergrad degree. Once, I finish with my MBA, I will use the experience I have accumulated over the year in health care and eventually become a hospital administrator.

How do the goals and learning outcomes of the course compliment your career goals?

In this course I was able to learn and research the relationship between society and technology. It has opened my eyes to see that it is not enough for me to know how to use a computer or various software. In order for me to be competitive, I need to have an edge over my competitor. I have come to the conclusion that knowing a computer language is very important today. I will be taking additional classes to learn computer coding in order to strengthen my resume.

What are some of the skills developed and enforced in this course that you will be able to transfer to your career?

This course primarily taught me how important research is and how to improve on my communication skills. Those weekly discussions are a great tool in learning how to properly communicate my thoughts through writing. It was fun and more challenging than I care to admit, which is showing me that there is an area that I currently need to improve. Written skills are very important in the job market, because I will be communicating with different departments and different people via emails or instant messages. Being able to properly use the correct vernacular will help me go far.

How do these skills support the development of communication competence, critical thinking, and problem-solving?

Having strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills will help support my development of communication because I will possess the ability to think clearly and rationally. There are too many instances where employees make decisions based on emotions as opposed to logical reasoning and companies suffer because of that. Being able to detach my emotions by analyzing the situation at hand with clear rationality will help me solve the problem accurately more often than none.

What are some of the ways you will continue to develop these skills in your career path as part of your professional development and life-long learning goals?

I will definitely pick up reading again. I believe that enhancing my vocabulary is the first step in developing these skills in my career path. I will not stop at reading, I will make sure that I use what I have learned on a daily basis so that is becomes a part of me. I will be enrolling in coding classes to learn how to create applications, design websites, because we live in a world that is dominated by computers. Having the basic understand on how it works will help me in the long run.

Sign-to-Behavior (Group Name?)

Study: Observe entry door for one hour with no sign to see how many participants hold the door for those behind them. Second week place visible sign on door and observe if sign increases behavior. Third week remove sign and observe if behavior has influenced participants.

Observation Area: 1st floor common area, and original front entry door.

Study #2: The process will be the same as the first, instead we would be measuring the use of the handicap button vs. pulling the door.

Observation Area: Main entry door

Building: Aquinas Hall

Observation Days: Tuesday 5:00-6:00

Articles for project (Group)

*These articles are very, very short and to avoid creating any more work than we already have Jesse and I think we should just use these as our common group articles. Unless there are other ideas?

Uber Technologies, Inc. is a multinational ride-sharing company in America that is famous for providing various services such as food delivery, peer to peer ridesharing, bicycle sharing system and rides service hailing. The headquarters of the company is based in San Francisco and it operates in more than 785 areas all over the world. The uber platform can be accessed via mobile Apps and via websites. Uber technology, Inc. is a public limited company and according to 2019 statistics, I discovered that Uber has over 120 million users all over the world. Also, it’s market share for passenger transport in the United States is 70% and 27% market share for food delivery.

Banks usual give financial products and services for their customers intending to earn the interest. A strong firm structure will help the bank prosper while giving various financial services. Uber technologies firms has made leaps and bounds over nine years and have attracted its fair share of famous investors during this period. The firm had raised approximately $24 billion over twenty financing rounds (Paul, & Tankus, 2019). The current investment of the bank was worth $ 70 billion which was the highest investment since the firm was started. The Uber technologies firm was funded by banks which includes Black Rock and many angel investors. The uber firm is now trying to increase the creation of financial products in New York. The ride-hailing companies are now aiming at hiring several project managers and engineers about more than 100 to be exact, who will be responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Uber products and services and as result, the current and future investment of the firm will be increased.

Uber technologies firms are now planning to participate in IPO to pool new talent and investments for their new products. By establishing its financial system, the firm can increase its lead over rivals such as Lyft. The efforts of focusing on the uber investment will help to increase the loyalty and engagement to the Uber platform.

Uber Inc. is a transportation company which is based in San Francisco California and it is now operating in 780 cities in the United States. Also, uber was founded by Garrett Camp in 2009, who was a co-founder of Stumble Upon and Travis Kalanick a computer programmer, who had traded his Red Swoosh startup for approximately $ 20 million in 2007. Uber was introduced as a way of reducing the cost of direct transport. The founder of the uber realized that sharing of cost with another individual could be affordable for the users of the uber. In 2010 , Ryan Graves became the first Uber employee, who was receiving the jobs by responding to the tweet from Kalanick declaring the opening of a job and receiving 5-10% of the company. In 2011, the companies changed their name from the uber cab to uber after there was a complaint from San Francisco tax operators.

The uber technologies firm is currently structuring its capital by making sure that the capital structure of the firm is well organized. The capital structure defines how the firm finances its overall growth and operations using distinct sources of funds from banks (Tomassetti,2016).

Risk Assessment Plan

Risk in Healthcare organization is prevalent. Thus any healthcare company must have a qualified risk manager who can assess, develop, implement & monitor risk management plan by which company can minimize exposures to threats. Risk assessment for all companies needs to be done after every specific period, which helps the company to take measures against new threats that might expose a vulnerability in future and impact in a loss for a company such as a loss of servers, loss of customer data, loss of company’s confidential information. HealthNet Network Inc needs an updated risk assessment so that management can make better decisions for the future and save companies assets, money, and their customers data. Currently, HealthNet has three main products i.e., HealthNet Exchange, HealthNet Pay and HealthNet Connect, and all three products access the company servers, customer data, payment portals, hospitals data through their website. Threat isn’t just the outside forces that can compromise company system, there is always more to that such as natural disasters, threat to system failure, Accidental human and the most important one is Malicious threat. Currently, HealthNet has three data centers at each location i.e., Minneapolis, Portland, and Arlington; third party vendor manages all. There are more than 1000 data servers and around 650 corporate laptops with other mobile devices. Production centers are also located at the data centers. With new Risk assessment plan for HealthNet can check the most current opportunities, threats, vulnerabilities, strengths of the company which can help management to take better decisions in future such as where & how much money do the company needs to invest in protecting HealtNet products from possible future Risks. For HealthNet company products to work properly; It is essential to identify the scope of the plan to avoid the risk of “Scope Creep,” i.e., the scope of the project increases uncontrollably. One of the significant scope for HealthNet Inc is to ensure HIPAA compliance for HealthNet Inc data. Some of the other scope are defined as follows:

  • HNet Exchange should be able to transfer data securely between the hospitals or clinics.
  • Exchange of medical messages between the customers should be done safely, and electronic messages should maintain their authenticity.
  • All the payments should be made through HNet Pay portal.
  • HNet Pay should support secure payments such as using HTTPS links.
  • HNet Connect contains all the doctor or patient information that should not be leaked to everyone, so it should be made sure only accessible person can look for doctors or patients profile.
  • All the three products are accessible through internet so secure network, good firewalls, updated antivirus and software, Intrusion detection system, and high good quality servers and equipment’s, should be used.
  • Identification, storage, usage, and transmission of health data.
  • Proper security policies are followed by all the employees.

For the Risk assessment, we can use the following equation to check the impact of that Risk:

Risk = Threat * Vulnerability

Risk is always high is the vulnerability is high, and Risk is low when our vulnerability is low. Threats are always out there, and it’s the vulnerability that threat always exposes and results in Risk. We can use the Risk Assessment Matrix to measure the impact of the Risk, which can weigh as High, Medium, and Low. Following two techniques are used to assess the Risk for HealthNet Inc.

  • Quantitative Risk Assessment

Technique is used to calculate the actual cost and helped to identify priority of risks and effectiveness of controls.

  • Qualitative Risk Assessment

Is a subjective method based on opinions from expert? Experts tell about their views about the likelihood & impact of the risks. After looking at the following table, we can prioritize risks for HNet inc. (Derril Gibson, 2015)

Attacks Probability Impact Risk Level
Loss of Protected Health Information Leaked from unauthorized Access 30 100 0.3*100

30%

30%

Attacker or Hacker ,(Malicious Attack) 100 100 1.0*100

100%

By using these techniques following threats are recognized at HealthCare Net Inc

  • Production systems helps to produce information for the company and to get the data. These systems should be working correctly. Threat is noticed that company data losses when hardware being removed from production systems.
  • Many laptops and mobile devices are stolen, which are considered to be as company assets, and with every stolen asset company losses information.
  • All three company products are accessible through the internet, and there is always an internet threat such as any hacker or malicious attack over the internet.
  • Threat of Natural disasters such as floods, hurricane, tornadoes, etc. can cause production outages, which can result in a loss to the company.
  • Insider Threat- Someone can make a mistake, and the threat of doing this is very high. Threats of human doing accidentally is always high.
  • Threat of system failure. This threat will be low if we use good and high-quality products or equipment for servers & system safety. We should never eliminate the possibility of system failure, or CPU fan is burn out, or power supply is out, or motherboard dies. Threat of all this is happening is high if equipment quality is low.

Following risk assessment matrix is used to tell the impact of all the possible risk in HealthCare Net company environment. (Derril Gibson, 2015)

Risk Threat Vulnerability Impact of Risk
Loss of data because of Production system outage.
  • Natural Disaster such as Floods
  • Hurricanes
  • Earthquakes
Location High
Loss of data
  • Insider Threat
  • Internet Threat
  • Hacker
  • No Firewall
  • Access control not properly implemented
  • No Intrusion detection system on server
High
Network compromised Malware Antivirus software outdated or not renewed High
Loss of company Information
  • Stolen data
  • Stolen assets such laptops, mobile devices
  • Access Control not implemented
High
Loss of confidentiality Hacker Public facing server not protected with firewalls and intrusion detection systems High
Loss of customer System Failure Low quality equipment’s are used High
Loss of Money Internal Lack of information about Policies such as HIPPA Low

After Prioritizing the risk, Business Impact Analysis is done to check the impact of these risk on HealthNet Inc. Following threats are identified after doing the BIA.

  • System outages
  • Loss of confidential data
  • loss of company Information,
  • Loss of company Assets
  • Loss of money

Resources are needed to get back our system online quickly if in case system outages occur. Following measures should be considered as soon as possible in the future to minimize the vulnerabilities that lead HealthNet to above-stated risks.

  • Cloud storage backup of data in case system outage occurs
  • High-quality Intrusion detection system and proper access controls should be implemented again to make sure there is no unauthorized access.
  • New insurance should be purchased for HealthNet, To insure all the Assets
  • Policies should be updated, and proper training held by department managers
  • Server protection software should be updated
  • Antivirus software at the systems should be updated and renewed till the time of next risk assessment

    Technology versus Globalization

About the current debate, technology is more influential than globalization because it is the primary driver of its counterpart, and without it, there would be stagnation of the latter. First, globalization focuses on establishing the hurdles and opportunities for goods and services in the broader commercial setup, thus facilitating the interdependence among the companies and local markets (Hitt, 2013). This concept enables companies like Netflix and affiliates to engage in strategic management processes towards impacting the global market (Garrett, 2017). However, technology influences the life of a specific person, group of people or companies who want to connect regardless of their physical location. This phenomenon succeeds through the development of telecommunication gadgets such as mobile phones, televisions, radios, computer software applications, and other crucial advanced utilities.

Reputable global business engines such as Netflix could benefit from the I/O Model of Above-Average Returns by examining external forces creating dominate influences on its strategic actions. The firm could assess the external environment and create competitive advantages through information comparability (Garrett, 2017). The company could study and understand the strategies of its main competitor, such as Apple, thus renovate it and build a substantial impact on the market segment. Netflix could also ensure that its strategy implementation resources are mobile. At the same time, the company decision-makers must be rational and committed to taking action in the interest of the company. The company should nurture the relevant skills and assets for strategy implementation. This model would enhance quality services and product, strategic pricing strategy, and fact service delivery (Hitt, 2013). The model would help to identify the needs of the clients concerning their position in the market segments courtesy of the consumer feedback element.

develop strategy that will target processes for developing, to include steps for evolving into productive self-managing teams

For the Module 2 Milestone assignment, you will develop strategy that will target processes for developing, to include steps for evolving into productive self-managing teams. Second, construct a general framework for creating a strong internal international human resource management quality focus. It will be important that you include items such as benchmarking, best practices, internal audit, and comparisons with other better standards in international human resource management functions.

This Milestone assignment should be no more than two pages in length (not including cover and reference pages), so focus on being clear and concise and supported by a minimum of two academic sources.

Explain how that relates to the perception of disability. Be specific and draw on examples from the Parker case to illustrate your thoughts.

Required: This is not to write as an essay. But, write the question before each answer.

Discussion 2: Ability and Disability in the Parker Case

To prepare: View this week’s media, Parker (Episode 30).

Think of the many names and labels you may have heard to describe persons with disabilities and those that are currently socially acceptable. The changing monikers given to those with disabilities are evidence of the continual negotiation of the society who labels and those who are so labeled to define what disability is and who is disabled. What do these shifting labels suggest about the social construction of disability?

Society is inconsistent in its treatment and protection of the rights of individuals with disabilities, creating a situation that contributes to marginalization that can complicate other forms of marginalization and oppression. Consider that being labeled with a disability can be simultaneously something to be fought against because of the stigma it entails and fought for because of the access that it grants to social services that meet basic medical needs, aid economic survival, and improve access to education that society can otherwise deny.

Write

An analysis of the implications of the social construction of disability. Describe how disability can be defined as a social construct.

Explain how that relates to the perception of disability. Be specific and draw on examples from the Parker case to illustrate your thoughts.

Describe the intersection of Stephanie’s mental illness with other characteristics of her identity.

Explain how those intersections could serve to further marginalize Stephanie’s place and experiences in society.

Explain how such marginalization impacts her ability to make choices, use self-determination, and be an active agent with equitable status in her interactions with other professionals.

      Introduction

“The government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.” — Ronald Reagan.

If an individual is searching for a tax strategy to offset his or her income from a primary job, being self-employed on the side is quite possibly one of the best options, along with being a real estate property owner or an investor. Each of these has the advantage of allowing an individual to reduce current income by any losses suffered from freelancing, renting out a property, or investing.

However, the individual takes on additional work for the filing process. Schedule C must be completed, a task that requires an individual to know much more about the tax rules for recognizing income and maximizing expenses than many persons are willing to invest the time to research.

The use of Schedule C is required when the individual’s business is not incorporated or formed as a partnership or limited liability company.

      Introduction

“If you make any money, the government shoves you in the creek once a year with it in your pockets, and all that don’t get wet you can keep.”

      — Will Rogers, American cowboy and humorist.

Staying with Will Rogers’ analogy, Schedule A is analogous to a sealed sandwich bag that protects some of the coins from the raging waters of government greed. If you are fortunate enough to have made significant income during a tax year, it is quite possible that you also have significant deductions to offset those monies. The Schedule A tax form allows taxpayers to itemize their deductions, rather than using the standard deduction.

      Introduction

Tax credits work to lower taxpayer liability rather than provide refund incentives. A tax credit is subtracted directly from the taxpayer’s tax obligation, providing equal relief to all taxpayers. This can make the credit more valuable than a deduction taken during the filing process.

There are credits for foreign taxes paid, child and dependent care expenses, and for the elderly or disabled; credits for education, retirement savings contributions, and residential energy; and child tax credit, adoption, retirement savings, and earned income credits.

      Introduction

There is a need for other forms of business ownership beyond sole proprietorship. Small businesses can only do so much to provide the public with an array of goods and services that match the public’s insatiable appetite. To this end, large corporate entities are better equipped to provide the required goods and services. Partnerships, in all of their forms, also fill a niche, especially in the area of services, such as legal, health, and welfare.

When it comes to these business entities’ responsibility for reporting their income and deductions, the tax code becomes very complicated. Their tax reporting needs may require the services of certified public accountants, who know the code thoroughly.

Corporate and partnership tax preparation require highly developed skills in research and analysis.

      Demonstration of Proficiency

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

        • Competency 3: Assess types of non-individual entities subject to federal taxation.
          • Determine partners’ recognized gains, explaining how much they gained and the rationale.
          • Prepare self-employment income and basis at the end of the year.
          • Determine how much gain or loss must be recognized on a distribution, ending partnership basis, and basis in equipment.
          • Calculate the gain or loss on the sale of a partnership interest.
          • Determine the basis of the stock in the hands of the shareholder.
          • Determine taxable income on a C corporation and the book income.
          • Determine the amount of taxable dividend, nontaxable distribution, and capital gain.

    • What types of human resource issues should management be aware of and sensitive to when making this change in distribution methods?
    • Should your employer make the decision to eliminate the existing sales force? Why or why not?
    • Beyond human resources, what other functional areas should be involved in the implementation plan for the change in distribution strategy?
    • Based on the sales force decision you support, what ethical issues need to be considered? Thinking more broadly, what does this tell you about the connection of ethics to strategic marketing?

By Day 3

Post by Day 3 an analysis (3–4 paragraphs) comparing revolutionary and civil rights movements in the United States and Latin America and the extent to which the changes desired by the people were or were not achieved and why.

Provide an executive overview for your Infrastructure proposal. How will your proposal help ELearning?

Required Proposal Responses

Executive Overview – Provide an executive overview for your Infrastructure proposal. How will your proposal help ELearning? What are the key aspects of your design? Why should ELearning select your proposal over your competitors’ proposals?

Develop a Windows Deployment Design and plan an automated client workstation and server installation strategy. This objective can include, but is not limited to, images and bare metal/virtual deployment; a plan for multicast deployment and a plan for Windows Deployment Services (WDS). This solution should enable ELearning to deploy client and server operating systems in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Plan and deploy Virtual Machine Manager Services. This objective may include but is not limited to: Design Virtual Machine Manager service templates; plan and deploy profiles including operating system profiles, hardware and capability profiles, application profiles, plan and manage services including scaling out, updating, and servicing services; configure Virtual Machine Manager libraries. This solution should enable ELearning to deploy servers in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Windows Server Design – Vienna has two Domain Controllers. All other locations have single Domain Controllers. Vienna’s domain controllers are running Windows Server 2012, but the other sites are running Windows Server 2008 Domain Controllers. All other services on the network are running on either older UNIX or Windows Server 2008 and 2003 servers. These legacy servers should be replaced as part of this project. Describe your recommendations for the server environment, focusing on any needed upgrades and the number of servers needed at each location to handle key network infrastructure services and roles (DNS, DHCP, File, Print, RRAS, etc.) You can make any recommendation for the server environment but explain how it will benefit your design.

Design and maintain a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) solution. This objective may include but is not limited to the following: Design considerations including a highly available DHCP solution including split scope, DHCP failover, and DHCP failover clustering, DHCP interoperability, and DHCP filtering. Describe how you will provide fault tolerance in the event that a primary DHCP server should fail. How will you handle remote users, network devices and printers?

DNS – Design a name resolution strategy. This objective may include but is not limited to: Design considerations, including Active Directory–integrated zones, DNSSEC, DNS Socket Pool, cache locking, disjoint namespaces, DNS interoperability, Single-Label DNS Name Resolution, zone hierarchy, and zone delegation.

Implement a scalable Remote Access solution. This objective may include but is not limited to: Configure site-to-site VPN; configure packet filters; implement packet tracing; implement multisite Remote Access and a DirectAccess solution.

Design an Active Directory topology. This objective may include but is not limited to: Design considerations including read-only domain controllers (RODCs), proximity of domain controllers, replication optimization, and site link; Group Policy, monitor and resolve Active Directory replication conflicts.

Discuss the differences between an employee and an independent contractor. Consider the legal and ethical considerations in misclassifying the worker.

Due Thursday

Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:

Reply 1

Odella:

The difference between an employee and an independent contractor, is how the employer pays them and how their taxes are paid. An employee is paid by the hour, salary, commission or combination of both. An employee also could get overtime. An employee receive a W-2 form, which shows their yearly income. The reason that they receive a W-2, because their employer withhold federal and state income taxes and FICA taxes, which is social security and medicare.

An independent contractor is provided a 1099, the employer that they do work for does not withheld their federal, state and FICA taxes from the amount the company pay’s them. An independent contractor is liable for their own income taxes, which is called self-employment. However, an independent contractor works without the legal amenities that will protect them, but an employee does. For example, wage and hour laws, workers compensation and unemployment benefits.

There have been several cases, that have led to companies being penalized, by the mis-classification of their employees. When an employer mis-classify an employee, they would label he/she as an independent contractor; because this will disable the company in paying taxes on employees. Such as unemployment taxes, unemployment insurance and workers compensation.

When companies mis-classify their employees, will cause an effect on the state and federal government. That is short changing them on their tax revenue by millions of dollars. With mis-classifying employees, this will be a legal and ethical issue. For instance, the reason why companies will mis-classify an employee and an independent contractor is, to save on labor costs. Labor costs is a major portion of the company. overhead.

Mis-classifying workers has a big negative result at the end, for the company. For example, when a company intentionally classify employees as independent contractors; it becomes unethical. This is a fraudulent act toward the state and federal governments.

As a result, the state and federal have taken action to penalize companies, who have been mis-classifying their employees. The IRS have implemented some test in reference to decipher an employee from an independent contractor. The test consist of behavioral control, financial control and type of responsibility.

Fines are generated from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), IRS and other state agencies. Some of the fines that companies are responsible for is, back pay on taxes, interest on employees’ wages and FICA taxes that were not withheld. Failure to make payments to the government, can produce additional fines.

Zach:

To safeguard against misclassification of workers, the IRS has compiled a list of 20 factors to help individuals and employers understand the main differences between an employee and independent contractor. The individual is an employee if they are bound by the employer to perform work in a specific manner, within certain hours, and while on the employer’s physical premises. By contrast, independent contractors retain greater freedom to accomplish the job as they deem appropriate, when it fits their schedule, and generally do so remotely. Compensation offers further distinction as employees are generally paid by the hour or period, and independent contractors generally receive payment for the completion of a job, or straight commission. There are many significant distinctions between employees and independent contractors, but the last to note at this juncture is for whom the individual is performing work – an independent contractor generally provides the same service to a number of different firms simultaneously, while also making those services readily available to the general public. In contrast, employees are bound to provide services to a specific employer within the aforementioned confines, therefore making it impossible to provide such services to the general public.

Accurately classifying employees and independent contractors is very important for IRS tax purposes. If an individual is an employee, the employer has tax responsibility on the employee’s behalf, such as withholding payroll taxes and social security contributions. Conversely, when the individual is an independent contractor and receives a 1099 to reflect their earnings, the client for whom the contractor does work does not have such a tax responsibility – that responsibility is 100% the contractor’s.

Some employers have misclassified employees as independent contractors in order to avoid tax responsibility, which creates both a legal and ethical dilemma. If an individual is misclassified as an independent contractor instead of an employee, they may miss out on minimum wage and overtime compensation – which may be beneficial to the company, but certainly not for the individual. In this case, the misclassification could cost the company dearly in the long-run as it would be held liable for all the deductions that should have been withheld from the individual’s pay, including taxes, FICA and FUTA contributions, and penalties for the misclassification.

Cirque du Soleil Situational Analysis

Cirque du Soleil has set the standard when it comes to massive theatrical productions encompassing acrobatics, aquatics, fire, and much more. “The mission of Cirque du Soleil is to invoke the imagination, provoke the senses and evoke the emotions of people around the world” (Cirque du Soleil Inc., n.d.). From humble beginnings starting in the early 1980’s, as a small group of street performers, to now becoming one of the most well-known brands in theatrical production, the team at Cirque du Soleil strives everyday to turn the company’s mission statement into reality. As far as the Las Vegas market is concerned, Cirque du Soleil has a monopoly on theatrical productions throughout the city. The company has fostered a strategic partnership with MGM Resorts Inc., positioning themselves head and shoulders above the other competition in the industry. This partnership with MGM has allowed them to expand from their 1 original Las Vegas show, Mystere, to now having 7 different permanent shows that play throughout the strip (Cirque du Soleil Inc., n.d.). The brand has also vaulted onto the world stage with shows and tours taking place on multiple different continents throughout the world. The current targeting market that Cirque du Soleil is focused on are theatergoers between the ages of 40-60 (J.Guilford, personal communication, September 28, 2019). Looking to the future however, the company hopes to expand its target market to include a wider variety of age groups and demographics.

Strengths

Brand recognition is one of the defining strengths of the company. You would be hard pressed to find somebody, anywhere in the world that has not at least heard of Cirque du Soleil. This brand recognition allows for greater freedom in multiple areas of the business, but also creates other strengths as well. A strength that is a by-product of the brands recognition is the talent pool that the company can lean on for employment. According to Guilford (2019), they are able to recruit acrobats because people want to work there (personal communication). Cirque du Soleil’s current roster of 1300 artists and performers hail from 55 different countries around the world (Cirque du Soleil Inc., n.d.). Being able to pull some of the best talent from all across the world will continually breathe new life and energy into the company, and allow the audience to receive the best performance possible. Creativity is also a major strength for Cirque du Soleil. Per the company’s mission statement, invoking the imagination is a core principle that the company is founded on. Creativity in the workplace allows for more freedom of expression for all the employees, and keeping your employees happy will result in higher productivity, and the more engaging and grass roots the creative process is, the better the final production will be.

Weaknesses

Cirque du Soleil does fall victim to problems that plague other theatrical shows. One of these weaknesses is the replay value of the performances themselves. While each show is unique in regards to the specific details of the performance, they are all very similar. You expect to see crazy acrobatics, and eye-popping effects with each show, and after you’ve seen the show one time, you know that you will get the same experience from all the other shows. Another weakness is the lack of marketing towards children and families. Las Vegas as a market is slowly moving away from catering towards high-end gamblers, and is more focused on diversifying the revenue streams of each casino. Cirque has not yet followed suit with their marketing and still target older guests. The pacing of the shows is another weakness for the company. People expect a cirque show to keep them on the edge of their seats throughout, but many complaints that consumers level against the company is how long their shows last. Many reviews can be found stating how boring the shows get with people literally falling asleep due to the length of the performance. You can’t market a show as being an unforgettable experience when attendees are falling asleep in their seats. A final weakness for cirque is how unadaptable their sets are to change. With creativity and imagination being a strength for the company, and a major factor in their marketing campaigns, it is hard to bring that to fruition when the complexity of the stage and setting make it impossible for the show to adapt to new ideas.

Opportunities

There are many trends that present lucrative opportunities for Cirque du Soleil to take advantage of. One such trend is the increase in leisure travel spending throughout the world. In 2017, approximately 60% of business trips were extended to leisure trips both in the US and globally, an increase of 40% since 2016. (Trends in Global, 2019, p. 6). This shows that more people are willing to extend their business trips if there is something worth staying for. Cirque du Soleil could also offer earlier time slots for travelers, giving them an option to watch a show during the day and not just limiting people to night shows.  A final opportunity is to take advantage of and cater towards a growing population of millennial travelers. Nearly 70% of millennial travelers are likely to extend their business trips to leisure trips. (Trends in Global, 2019, p. 6). With this statistic in mind, it would make sense to market more toward millennial travelers since they are more likely to extend their trip to have a good time.

Threats

A little known but major threat to Cirque is day drinking. Since Las Vegas is known as a party city, people are more inclined to partake in some early day drinking causing effects on late night entertainment (J.Guilford, personal communication, September 28, 2019). Nobody wants to walk around Vegas all day, drinking and having a good time, then be stuck in a show during the night.. People usually want to be up and having a good time. Another major threat to Cirque du Soleil is other party cities like Ibiza. Vegas is not becoming the go-to hotspot anymore, Ibiza is gaining more and more popularity taking away potential Vegas visitors (J.Guilford, personal communication, September 28, 2019). Coupled with this threat is the fact that millennial travelers are not as likely to come to Las Vegas because of the allure of the casinos anymore. US Millennial travelers are attracted more to dining and learning new things while on vacation. (Trends in Global, 2019, p. 9). Unless Las Vegas can change its perception on the world stage to capitalize on this new revenue stream, then foot traffic will continue to decline to the Las Vegas based shows.

This article shows the working conditions of the performers/employees, one of the strengths/opportunities is that Cirque du Soleil will provide and pay for work permits and visas. This is extremely important because it allows people from all over the world able to legally work in whatever country they decide. The United States of America is one of the hardest countries to get a working visa, having Cirque du Soleil provide this amazing opportunity is definitley a strength.

Create a presentation that compares and contrasts the total rewards program utilized at Alfa I Omega (AIO) (Odrakiewicz, Szulc, & Odrakiewicz, 2018)

Option #2: Evaluation of Rewards Programs

Create a presentation that compares and contrasts the total rewards program utilized at Alfa I Omega (AIO) (Odrakiewicz, Szulc, & Odrakiewicz, 2018). with your own company’s reward program specifically (if applicable, or a selected company) and other companies’ reward programs in general. Incorporate into your presentation a comparison of governmental control, market factors, and any other aspects that impact a total rewards program. Your presentation should:

  1. Be 10 slides in length (not including cover and reference slides).
  2. Include presenter’s notes for each slide to further detail the key text that is included on each slide.
  3. Integrate a minimum of three scholarly articles in addition to course resources.

Should the minimum wage be increased?  What are the benefits of such a policy

Should the minimum wage be increased?  What are the benefits of such a policy?  What are the unintended consequences? Please defend your answer using economic concepts and be sure to compare costs and benefits.

There are benefits to minimum wage. Single people who work 40 hours a week while making minimum way are considered above the poverty line in the United States. This means those unskilled workers can afford the necessities while gathering experience or training. The minimum wage has little to no effect on the quantity of unemployment and does not determine the market outcome.

Though minimum wage has its benefits there are also unintended consequences. Increasing minimum wage reduces the number of unskilled workers hired. This leaves more of the population unemployed. The improvement in some people’s incomes comes at cost for others, like those who lose their jobs so employers can afford to pay the higher wages of others.

Like all things there are consequences and benefits for every decision. Is one person’s pay increase worth the loss salary for another? In my opinion as long is minimum wage is kept close to the equilibrium in the labor market it is nonbinding. If there is not an excess in supply of labor (or surplus) there is no issue with maintaining minimum wage. Increasing minimum wage in such a manner that it causes the quantity demand of labor to rise, resulting in a supply of labor surplus, would not be worth the increased risk

Canopy Growth Value Chain Analysis

Canopy growth is North America’s lead producer of marijuana that is legal. It was formerly known as Tweed Marijuana Inc. And has become famous for its rapid growth over the years since its inception in 2013 by Chuck Rifici, Mark Zekulin and Bruce Linton. The main aim for its formation was to provide patients with affordable medicinal Marijuana.

Value chain analysis refer to the process in which a firm identifies its support and primary activities and focuses on value addition of the final product and the analysis of these activities, therefore resulting in reduced cost or increased differentiation of products. Potus value chain model highlights the need to enhance primary activities such as; inbound logistics, operations, outbound logistics, sales and marketing and service, and support activities such as firm infrastructure, procurement, human resource management and technology, so as to gain profit in the long run.

From Canopy growth, we see that Canopy Growth was majorly founded with an objective of providing Cannabis patients with affordable medicine. They adopted a concept known as Compassionate Pricing, which has since become a standard worldwide, and has become something for other companies to bench mark. This concept in the long run encourages more sales for Canopy compared to competitors, thus yielding higher profits. Another useful tool for Canopy is the application of technology, in this case biotechnology. This goes a long way in improving its products and services, hence attracting more customers and yielding more profits. Also the fact that Canopy works with numerous brands, means more diversification of products and more profit, compared to other firms.

Over the years, Canopy has also managed to attract a lot of sales, with 2018 recording the highest revenues of $ 77.9, showing it is making profit relative to other companies. The fact that it was the first company in the Toronto stock exchange, and later the first company at New York stock exchange shows that these occurrences make it a pioneer, hence Canopy growth has had a large uncompleted opportunity to seek for investors, expand its operations and yield more profit.

Write a paper in which you compare and contrast two (2) major Eastern religions (Hinduism; Buddhism; Taoism; Confucianism; Shinto) Begin your project with a clear and focused thesis statement

Choose ONE (1) of the categories listed below to focus on for this First Paper assignment. For your topic you must demonstrate knowledge of the terms and concepts of Chapter 1 and incorporate them into your paper.

  1. Write a paper in which you compare and contrast two (2) major Eastern religions (Hinduism; Buddhism; Taoism; Confucianism; Shinto) Begin your project with a clear and focused thesis statement. Address the origins, region, main leaders, the particular teachings/philosophies, rituals, scriptures, holidays/holy days, and impact of the religions. Use the categories and terms from chapter 1 in your descriptions of the religions.
  2. Write a paper in which you feature a dialogue between Confucius and The Buddha. Begin your project with a clear and focused thesis statement. Address these points: origin/birth; what led to their ethical system; what is their ethical system; what was the reaction to their new concepts. Compare and contrast their teachings/philosophies. Use the terms and concepts from Chapter 1 to illuminate your dialogue.
  3. Write a paper presenting a visual report on two (2) Eastern religions sites nearby (an alternative for those in rural places would be to do an Internet search of two (2) religious locations). Begin your project with a clear and focused thesis statement. Look at architecture, interior space, etc. Include visuals to illustrate your points. How do these reflect the definitions and terms of Chapter 1, and what we have learned about these religions?
  4. Conduct an extensive interview with a person who practices Eastern religions and write a paper presenting the results of this interview. Begin your project with a clear and focused thesis statement. Use these questions in your interview: How did you become associated with this religion? What is it about this religion that intrigues you? Is it difficult to practice your faith? What readings/scriptures do you use? What are some rituals you perform? What holy days/holidays do you keep? What would you like your neighbors/colleagues to know about your faith? Use the definitions and categories of religion from Chapter 1 to guide the interview.
  5. Write a paper that explores Indigenous religions. After an introduction with a clear and focused thesis statement, set up a three-columned chart: one column for the basic elements of religion; one for Indigenous religions, and one for the Eastern religion of your choice (there are at least three that have Indigenous components/roots). Choose what you believe are at least the five (5) basic elements of a religion, then see if they are in Indigenous religions and an Eastern religion. Summarize your results in a concluding paragraph and address these questions: Based on the terms and definitions of Chapter 1, are indigenous religions really religions? Using the information from Chapter 2, did you find any indigenous religious elements in Eastern religions?
  6. Write a paper that explores religion in the news. Find an extensive news story on one Eastern religion or Indigenous religion. Begin your project with a clear, focused thesis statement. Using 5 (five) terms and concepts from Chapter 1 and pertinent chapters from Fisher, interpret that story for people at a family gathering by explaining how it relates to the basic tenets of that faith tradition.

Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:

  1. Use at least three (3) quality resources as references for the assignment and document your sources using SWS Style for in-text citations and references. Note: Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify as quality resources.
  2. Write clearly and coherently using correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and mechanics.

IT System Connection Table

Student name:

When securing the modern enterprise, consider that IT systems do not operate alone. Securing them involves securing their interfaces with other systems as well. It is important to know the different interconnections each system may have.

Fill out the table below for four IT systems. Include the following:

  • Note two enterprise systems they connect with and their connection type.
  • Note two security vulnerabilities the connection may have and 2 to 4 ways each vulnerability could be potentially exploited.

Consider the following as you build your table:

  • Two example rows have been entered into the table.
  • Keep in mind that enterprise systems cover a certain task in the enterprise (HR, CRM, identity management, etc.). They are not the components of a system (such as servers).
  • Connections can often be a direct connection/pipe, a file, a common database or something else.
  • The vulnerability is what would make the connection vulnerable to an attack.
  • The related risk is an attack that could target the weakness.

REVIEW A PROFESSIONAL ARTICLE IN ANTHROPOLOGICAL SCIENCE

ANTH-N 190 Homework #8:

REVIEW A PROFESSIONAL ARTICLE IN ANTHROPOLOGICAL SCIENCE

GOALS: to become familiar with the textbook, to learn how anthropological science is conducted, to learn how to read a scientific article, and to gain skills with the IUSB library research system.

Find a peer-reviewed journal article on something anthropological related to human origins or prehistory. That usually means it is more than five pages long, has a bibliography at the end and an abstract at the beginning, and comes from a journal accessed through the IUSB library system. The article should have a recognizable hypothesis that you can write about. If you aren’t sure an article is appropriate for this project check with a librarian (or send a complete link to me in a timely manner).

To begin:

1. Think about how this class on human origins can be related to your intended major. Come up with search words that interest you. Use terms from your current major (“education,” “teeth,” “health,” business,” “market,” or the like — or just be curious).

2. Use the JSTOR search pages found in the IUSB Schurz Library A-Z Databases: https://login.proxysb.uits.iu.edu/login?url=http://www.jstor.org or found under the “J” entries through http://libguides.iusb.edu/az.php if you have problems accessing.

3.  Always use “advanced search”

a. In the two boxes used for keywords, enter “anthropology” (or “archaeology”) and something from your major (“teeth” or the like)

b. Filter your searches for “articles” and “research reports”

c. Limit your searches to the past 10 years (2009-2019).

d. If you want, make the search more specific with topical wildcards (“anthropo*” or “archaeo*” etc.) AND/OR booleans (“AND” or “OR”) along with your terms of interest.

e. If your search results don’t make sense for the project, ask for help.

f. Never pay for articles — either change the date or log in as a student.

Once you’ve found an appropriate research article (not an essay or opinion or editorial or introduction or biographical sketch or review or anything else without original research):

4. Create a heading titled: Hypothesis. Below that, put the hypothesis in your own words.

5. Create a heading titled: Methods/Results. Below that, explain the procedures used to test the hypothesis, and describe the evidence presented, in your own words.

6.  Create a heading titled: Conclusions. Below that, describe the conclusions. How are these different from “opinions?”

7.  Create a heading title: Connections. Below that, relate concepts from at least three separate chapters from your textbook to this article. Use the concepts in detail to show that you can critically use the book to understand other materials (you will have to read ahead). Properly cite your textbook in your explanation. See, you get to use the book in this class. And you get to show me specifically and directly how you did so.

Then, at the end of your paper:

8.  Include the specific search terms you used to find the article in the first place.

9. Include the exact word count for your paper, in parentheses (your work must be between 500-700 words).

10.  Include complete bibliographic entries for a) your article and b) your textbook in ASA style found here:

https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/asa_style/references_page_formatting.html.

In-text citations will be used for all discussion of the textbook or quotes from the article (see https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/asa_style/in_text_citation_references.html).  Many of you are not using any type of correct citation/works cited styles in your projects, and it’s important to know how to format your in-text citations correctly, so I will be checking . Use these formats only (NOT APA or MLA). Purdue Owl is a wonderful, searchable website on accepted styles in academic writing, so feel free to bookmark this page or peruse its contents. You most certainly will be using it in later classes, so get to know it now.

Please, don’t plagiarize, I will be checking. IUSB takes a very serious stance on academic plagiarism, and you should always put things in your own words. Limit the use of “direct quotes”.

Several questions, which are also stated at the end of the case, pose plenty of reason for contemplation of the following:

1. What more could Scott Tilden, the supply chain manager, have done to make the case for more resources, getting buy-in, or qualifying more suppliers? (We suggest that you revisit the topic of segmented supply from a previous SCM course to ascertain how the urgency of the situation might have been elevated.)

Ashmark Corporation Case

Learning that a supplier may be having problems is one thing, but then receiving word that they have declared Chapter 11 is quite another. By the time a supplier declares Chapter 7, however, the supply management problem has reached crisis level. In this case, Ashmark Corporation is a major supplier to the automotive industry and had one of its major (Tier 2) suppliers go into receivership. Adding to the complexity of the situation is that the supplier, Red Star Castings, was in possession of supplier-held tooling.

Assignment Guidelines:

  • Max of two pages, single-spaced (not smaller than 11-point font), plus not more than two pages of charts, tables, or figures.
  • Citations can be listed on a separate page and NOT included in the page count.
  • A title page is not necessary, but be certain to give the file a unique name that identifies your last name in the file title.

As we have discussed in class there are many ways to make our community more inclusive and accessible.

As we have discussed in class there are many ways to make our community more inclusive and accessible. Unfortunately, accessibility is often an afterthought in the engineering, design, and building process of community environments. This results in the exclusion of people with disabilities in life activities that non-disabled people take for granted. The hope with this assignment is to open your eyes to the ways that our community can be accessible and inaccessible for people with disabilities, and the ways that we can be proactive in ensuring that accessibility features are present within our communities.

Examples of places you can evaluate:

●  Places of worship

●  Public events

●  Public buildings

●  Public parks and walkways

●  Local businesses

●  Tourist areas

●  Travel destinations

Respond to each question in detail to determine how this location is accessible or inaccessible to people with disabilities. (Remember: Accessibility is not only for those with visible disabilities, but also invisible disabilities such as heart conditions, anxiety disorders, etc.). You must include the question and your thorough response in full sentences, 12-point font, double spaced,  with 1” margins. You must submit your assignment on Blackboard in a Microsoft Word Format. Email submissions will not be accepted.

Note: If you are an English Language Learner or if you struggle with English grammar, we strongly recommend that you use the services of the SDSU Writing Center prior to submitting assignments. Grammatical errors that interfere with comprehension while grading will result in point losses on assignments.

For this assignment you will respond to the following questions on the topic of accessibility in the community:

  1. Name and location of the public place you are evaluating. Give a description of the location. (1 pt)
  2. Is it accessible to some people with disabilities more than others? If so, which group of people is it more accessible to? And which group of people with disabilities is it not accessible to? Explain why you have come to this conclusion. (2 pts)
  3. If you could make this location more accessible what would you change, include, remove, or alter? Explain how and why.  (2 pts)
  4. What are some features/qualities in this location that make it accessible? What barriers exist in this location that make accessibility more challenging? Are the features/qualities and barriers man-made in the current moment? Or are they part of the initial design? Explain. (2 pts)
  5. Pictures are not included in your 3-page count and must be placed on the fourth page of your paper. You must include 4 pictures on page 4. (2 pts)

At this point in the course, you will also need to be extra conscious of using person-first language and respectful language in general when referring to people with disabilities. You will have an automatic point deduction if you use non-person-first language or use non-dignifying terminology (i.e., confined to a wheelchair, differently-abled, etc.). Refer to to Respectful Language Guidelines on Blackboard for guidance.

Hint: Things to consider as you answer the above questions:

  1. Can a person who uses a wheelchair access all of the same areas that a non-disabled individual can access?
  2. Are accessible alternatives clearly and visibly marked?
  3. Are elevators and lifts in working order wherever there are stairs?
  4. Are ramps located and angled in such a way that it is not overly burdensome for someone who uses a wheelchair to maneuver to them and on them?
  5. Are the accessible alternatives comparable in distance such that the person using a wheelchair does not need to go far out of their way to arrive at the destination?
  6. Are signs readable in Braille for people who are blind?
  7. Are audio cues available for people who are blind (such as crosswalks)?
  8. Are sign interpretation and/or closed captioning available for any audio or video features?
  9. Are there enough accessible parking spots and are they actually accessible? If they are not accessible, is it because someone is parked in them illegally? Has someone put shopping carts or scooters or other obstacles in the spots?
  10. Are there enough accessible walkways, curb cuts, and other accessibility features? If they are not accessible, is it because someone has blocked them/created barriers? Or is it due to poor design?
  11. Do accessibility features that benefit people with disabilities also benefit those who do not have disabilities? If so, how?

Provide a compelling ‘hook’ to get reader attention, such as a question, quotation, anecdote etc. What is your position/opinion on the topic?

If university education is such a value to society, why isn’t university tuition free?

Write a brief but coherent mini-essay, minimum of three paragraphs, to five paragraphs maximum length, using the following argumentative essay structure:

Introduction: What’s the issue? Provide a compelling ‘hook’ to get reader attention, such as a question, quotation, anecdote etc. What is your position/opinion on the topic? What do you think? Establish a clear, arguable thesis statement on the topic, in the final sentence.

Argument (1-3 paragraphs):  Include 1-3 points to argue your position as laid out in the thesis statement. This is where you outline your sub-arguments. Present each point, then include any evidence—quotation, statistic, date—in support of each point. What does this evidence mean for your argument?

Follow this structure in one, two, or three paragraphs. Tip: Save your strongest point for the final paragraph.

Conclusion: Rephrase your thesis statement in the first sentence. Synthesize your points from the body of the essay. End with a question, look to the future, or offer a parting thought.
