Emotional Intelligence

Previous to the 1990s, an individual’s Intelligent Quotient (IQ) remained an unquestioned, central standard of learning. With a high IQ, it may be assumed an individual might be well-versed in knowledge in order to tackle any problem, making effective and efficient decisions. Yet, contemporary research also indicates that good problem-solving and quality decision making did not always stem from one’s IQ, but more importantly one’s Emotional Intelligence (EI). In fact, a variety of studies have shown that “emotional intelligence competencies account for anywhere from 24 to 69 percent of performance success” (Lynn, 2008).

For this Discussion, select a current event (CHOOSE ONE!!) that relates to emotional intelligence and public health leadership. Consider whether emotional intelligence impacts public health leaders and event outcomes.

By Day 4

Post description of the current event (CHOOSE ONE!!). Then, describe emotional intelligence portrayed by leader(s) in the event. Finally, explain how emotional intelligence may have affected the final outcome of the event. Be specific. (2 PAGES, APA Format, 4 References)

Please use the following headings:

  • Current event description
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Affected Outcome

NASA/Space Science, science homework help

Reply to post.

I have read and reread the materials and I am still at a loss for how to approach the subject because I have this problem with having to say what I really think. To the best of my knowledge NASA/Space Science is the only one of these programs that really led to the popularization of science but NASA’s hay-day passed a long time ago, crashing with the Challenger and Columbia disasters.

I would say for most of my life there has been a culture of anything “big” (banks, government, business, pharma, religion) is automatically suspicious and labeled with words like corrupt, wasteful, and inefficient. Publicly funded comes with lots of challenges and tension, especially when so many are having are hard time just getting by. Science brings as much fear as it does potential and progress. The Manhattan project brought us the possibility of self-annihilation. In spite of all the good possible through the human genome project, it had caused fears about genetic discrimination, cloning, designer babies, privacy issues, etc. What little hope I remember about the super collider ended with the loss of funding for the project in America.

The rock star astronaut iconography of the past has been replaced with the science nerd. A normal part of human development in young people is to want to be accepted by their peers, being a nerd and getting acceptance from peers just doesn’t go together. This sets a bad stage for the future of the popularity of science. So, for there to be a (re)-popularization of science, we are going to have to overcome the challenges of fear, economics and negative stereotypes.

It has not been talked about much in here but there are large swaths of Americans who have basically rejected science. There are the creationists, climate change deniers, anti-vaxers, the organic food movement, environmentalist that want to get back to a more natural state and an endless amount of religious conflicts for one reason or another. Maybe if I lived in silicon-valley, I might see things differently but from my perspective science has a long row to hoe to get to popularity in the general population.

Drug Quality and Security Act, health and medicine homework help

Prior to 2012, compounding pharmacies were not required by law to follow current good manufacturing practices. Then, in October 2012 there was an outbreak of fungal meningitis reported. The Center for Disease Control traced the outbreak to fungal contamination in an injectable corticosteroid that was compounded by New England Compounding Center. Doses from the lots found to be contaminated had been shipped to 75 medical facilities in 23 states, and doses had been administered to about 14,000 patients.

Following this tragedy, the Drug Quality and Security Act was enacted, a bill that would modify the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and give more authority to regulate and monitor the manufacturing of compounded medication.

For this assignment, research the Drug Quality and Security Act, which was signed into law by President Obama in November 2013.

Answer key question such as:

  • What are some of the changes that were a result of this Act being signed that effect the compounding industry
  • Do you believe this tragedy would have been prevented had this bill already been in place? How?
  • How could it prevent an outbreak like that which occurred in 2012 from happening again?
  • What drawbacks do you see if any and in what ways could this law be improved?

Conduct online research, and then write a 2-page paper, remembering to answer the above listed questions. Be sure to also include your references. You will be scored on your grammar and organization as well, so be sure and spend time revising before submitting.

When you review various curricular plans, you may see a variety of terms. Some programs use the term “program outcomes” while others use the term “terminal objectives” for those actions that the student is expected to accomplish upon graduation. The same is true for individual courses. Some programs call the knowledge and skills that a student should master by the end of the course “course outcomes” while others use the term “course objectives.” All of the terms have a specified definition in literature and according to accreditation agencies. What are the similarities and differences between the terms according to the literature and to accrediting agencies? Select a program or course   and critique their use of these terms. Do they use them in a manner consistent with the literature and/or accreditation agencies or do they use them differently? Include your review of the program in your response to this discussion question. Support your response with literature. Your critique could be at the program level or at the course level. You do not need to do both levels.

Human Organs

Your organs are composed of the four tissue types; epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissues. Organs are wondrous things, each one with a different function vital to the homeostasis of your body. While it is easy for us to view a particular organ as a single item, it is in fact comprised of many different types of cells and structures, each one unique and yet each one working together to perform the functions of the organ.

In this Assignment, you will research an individual organ and its complexity. Your APA-formatted essay should include:

  • A general description of your assigned organ in the introduction. In the general description, you will include the following: a brief description of the primary functions of this organ, its general shape, and the location of this organ in the human body.
  • Describe in detail the importance of this organ to the function of the body as a whole. What are the functions of this organ and how is it critical for survival?
  • Identify and describe which of the four tissue types (epithelial, connective, muscle, and/or nervous tissues) are present in the organ.
  • Describe any organ-specific cell types that are present and if these cell types have any special structures (e.g., presence of microvilli and/or abundance of particular organelle such as mitochondria).
  • Discuss in detail how these different cell-types work together to provide the overall function of the organ.
  • Include a discussion of why each organ requires the different tissue types as well as unique cell types to function. Why can the organs not be comprised of just one cell type? What is the advantage of having so many different types of cells?
  • First Letter of Last Name Organ
    I-M Kidney

    Basic Writing Requirements:

    Manage Discussion Entry

    Hi Professor Allen and classmates,

It is said that hindsight is 20/20. The lessons of resilience, volunteerism, bravery , advocacy and innovations that we were exposed to through learning about our nursing history hold us in good stead for the future. It is very important for us as nurses to know and really understand how nursing stood the test of time and continues to be applauded as the most trusted/ respected profession. The article entitled American Nursing: Introduction to the past(n.d.) stated that nurses fill a wide variety of roles and work both independently and collaboratively across many different care systems. Education has played a major role in bringing us to where we are today and we are guided by the AACN Essentials of baccalaureate education for professional nursing.

In my own practice, I feel it is important to nurture and teach my new nurses as I lead by example and I am always open to conversation with staff about nursing, its history and my experiences in the past thirty plus years. Some of the best lessons are learned through experience and what I do, is share my experiences with those I work with. Over the years I have been privileged to witness my patient care technicians aspire to become nurses, today, there are three who are currently attending nursing school.

History has shown the progress made through the sheer resilience, bravery, advocacy, volunteerism and technological advances made by those before us. Although education is our best resource, organization is also very important ,through the years we have seen that a lot of good happens when nurses raise their collective voices because we are indeed that powerful and resourceful. According to D’Antonio, Connolly, Wall, Whelan & Fairman (2010), how we make history is through our practice, our education and our power struggle. Our current health care debate rests in its ability to remind us that practice and education are political entities. How we use history to understand our current situation and move forward remains our challenge and our opportunity ( p.1).

Related to relative and relative cumulative frequencies:

In statistics, sometimes few numbers in the given data are repetitive a couple of times. This repetition of a particular number is called its frequency. The frequency of an item represents how many times that item appears in the data. On the other hand, relative frequency of a number is its frequency as compared to the total frequencies of all the numbers. Relative frequency is evaluated by dividing the individual frequency of an item by total number of frequencies. The formula for the relative frequency is given below

    [img border=”0″ src=”https://ci5.googleusercontent.com/proxy/Ri8OAVLhr6r4i0TTVLp9cQlrchh0kTr6lMfqdj1zSsSMCgqtPXVso-Qkl7Fq1szZAUcLQwPzx_H2r9gH2RStwOHtnoOGNEpdUnbXVSjbUjJlOTpgvVKovnMVH-KHFU_i=s0-d-e1-ft#http://images.tutorvista.com/cms/images/113/relative-frequency-formula.png” alt=”Relative Frequency Formula” class=”CToWUd”>

    Where,

f = Frequency of an individual item
    n = Total frequencies.

Cumulative relative frequency is a statistical calculation figured by adding together previously tabulated relative frequencies that makes a running total along a frequency table. For instance, the first relative frequency of an occurrence is two out of 20 and the second relative frequency is five out of 20. The two frequencies are added together to make seven of 20, or 0.35 for a cumulative relative frequency.

    1. Consider humanity as the ultimate predator. Many, if not most of us, particularly in the United States, are quite comfortable with the harvesting of organisms like tuna, deer, ducks, or rabbits. Other countries and cultures; however, value species for food that rarely, if ever, find their way to the North American dinner plate. What are your thoughts on the harvesting of organisms such as whales, dolphins, seals, etc.? Is hunting the only major issue that might threaten the existence of these organisms? Should we limit ourselves to eating only certain organisms? Why, or why not? Feel free to do some independent research.

    2. What is your opinion on culling? Is there a time that it is appropriate? Culling is the process of segregating organisms from a group according to desired or undesired characteristics. Humans usually cull by killing individuals of a species population.

    Mgt 312 week 3 discussion question 1

I like how this website explained the causes of social loafing. Social loafing happens according to research when individuals often feel like their contributions don’t matter, and therefore, they decrease their effort and contributions. Two other common reasons given for social loafing are the ‘sucker effect’ and the ‘free-rider effect.’ The sucker effect refers to the tendency of people to try and avoid feeling like a ‘sucker’ by waiting to see how much effort others will put into a group first. These are people who often feel that the other group members will leave them to do all the work. The school group that we discussed earlier is a good example of this. If all the group members try to avoid being the sucker, then each person’s effort will be significantly diminished. Debbie Vestica decided to look for a new job on a day that should have been filled with joy. She had just completed a master’s degree in nursing and had been given a substantial increase in pay, along with new benefits. Other factors, however, greatly diminished the reward she had just received.

Debbie began working as a nurse in a local pediatric physician’s medical group. Three doctors and three nurses made up the medical staff. Two of the nurses completed training at the licensed practical nurse (LPN) level, while Debbie held the rank of registered nurse (RN). Due to this difference in educational attainment, Debbie was expected to supervise the other two nurses. The problem she faced was that the two nurses often treated her more as a peer, or even as a subordinate, rather than as a supervisor.

To complicate matters, the two LPNs had been on staff for four and five years, respectively, while Debbie had only been employed by the organization for two years. Still, when hired, she was told to assume a supervisory role. At first, Debbie chose not to confront the two more experienced nurses, hoping that over time she would be able to manage them more effectively by not trying to use forceful or directive tactics.

One year later, Debbie discovered that although her pay was slightly above average for RNs in the area, her pay differential with the LPNs was only $3 per hour. She earned $30 per hour ($60,000 per year), whereas the LPNs earned $27 per hour ($54,000 per year). Their pay ranked them above nearly all LPNs in the state. Given the additional duties she was expected to complete, Debbie found the pay differential to be unsatisfactory.

After two years on the job, Debbie began a master’s program designed to achieve the designation of clinical nurse specialist with an emphasis in children’s health. She devoted considerable time and money to obtaining the degree, although the physician’s group did contribute 50% of her tuition and book costs.

On graduation day, Debbie met with the three physicians. They all generously praised her efforts and promised her a new status level that included having her own office in the complex. They also granted her a raise of $7 per hour, raising her annual salary to $74,000, in return for additional duties and responsibilities.

The turning point occurred when Debbie overheard the two LPNs talking in the office break room. Upon finding out about Debbie’s new pay raise and status, the LPNs confronted the three physicians, demanding an additional increase in pay as well. Sensing a major confrontation, the physicians had decided to raise the pay of the two by $5 per hour, to $32 per hour or $64,000 per year. That amount was higher than what Debbie had earned as an RN and as an RN attending graduate school. Believing that she would never receive the proper pay differential that she deserved in this practice, Debbie decided it was time to seek employment elsewhere.

    1. Use Herzberg’s two-factor theory to explain Debbie’s level of motivation.
    2. Use Adams’s equity theory to explain Debbie’s decision to look for work elsewhere.
    3. Use Vroom’s expectancy theory to explain this situation.
    4. If you were advising the three physicians in the organization, what would you tell them they should have done when confronted by the two LPNs? Defend your advice.

Phosphorylation of glucose, biology homework help

Identify specific numbers of ATP generated and used in the different parts of the cycle, in conjunction with your response from part B1. Can you point out where I’m going wrong in this question??

The process will use two molecules of ATP in the following processes:

Phosphorylation of glucose to glucose-6-phosphate uses one molecule of ATP.

Phosphorylation of fructose-6-phosphate to fructose-1,6-bisphosphate uses one molecule of ATP.

Because the process will only stop at the glycolytic pathway, the following amount of ATPs will be made at the energy payoff phase of glycolysis:

Two molecules of NADH are produced in the reaction involving oxidation of glyceraldehyde phosphate to 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate. The two molecules of NADH will enter the electron transfer chain reaction to produce six ATP.

Two molecules of ATP is produced in the substrate level phosphorylation reaction in which 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate converts to 3-phosphoglycerate.

Two molecules of ATP are produced in the dephosphorylation reaction of both PEP molecules to two pyruvates.

This reaction will produce ten ATP molecules.

As a nurse educator, you are responsible for preparing a clinically-proficient and culturally-competent nursing workforce through nursing education. In addition, you are expected to promote excellence in patient care and safe patient outcomes through patient education.

Motivating learners is the key to achieving learning outcomes. The motivational strategies that you use will help determine the successes or failures of the learning experience. Both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation can foster active learning and develop professional expertise in your learners. However, it is important to strike a balance between both approaches.

In the scenario below, you will use emerging technologies to keep learners engaged and interested. Using technology in classrooms, clinics, or community education centers can be an efficient and effective alternative to conventional learning.

You will create an 8-page paper (excluding title page, references, and Appendices) addressing the following items looking through the lens of the Staff Development Educator, the Community Health-Based Educator, or the Academic Nurse Educator (choose only one educator perspective through which to view the scenario).

    Scenario: Basic Cardiac Life Support

You are working for a facility that has just purchased a $60,000 simulation mannequin. As you read the instructions, you find out that the modules you need to teach basic cardiac life support (BCLS) were not included in the simulator purchase. You find that the simulator cannot be used to its fullest potential because the interactive EKG and AED modules have not been purchased. You learn from the director of nursing education that there was not enough money in the budget to purchase the entire package. You are told that you must “make do” with what has been purchased to teach a class of 30 leaners of varying ages and diverse backgrounds.

    1. Explain how will you deal with motivational issues in this diverse learning group.
    2. How will you discover intrinsic motivating factors to help the various members of your audience learn the material that you plan to present?
    3. Determine what possible issues related to resistant learners may you encounter.
    4. Assess how will you manage the resistant learner.
    5. What are the possible programs on BCLS support that you can design using this simulation mannequin, despite the limitations imposed on you?
    6. Outline the advantages of using this simulation package to teach BCLS.
    7. Determine the limitations of using a simulation mannequin, which does not have an interactive EKG and AED modules, to teach BCLS.
    8. Plan how can you overcome these limitations.
    9. Construct a method to evaluate your learners with a percentage to pass.

Probability sampling represents the best strategy for selecting research participants, assignment help

For this Discussion, you will first consider sampling strategies. Then, you will turn your attention to data collection methods, including their strengths, limitations, and ethical implications. Last, you will consider measurement reliability and validity in the context of your discipline. Post a restatement of your assigned position on sampling strategies. Defend your position with examples and support from the scholarly literature. Next, select a data collection method and briefly explain its strengths and limitations. Then, identify a potential ethical issue with this method and describe a strategy to address it. Last, explain the relationship between measurement reliability and measurement validity using an example from your discipline.Specific methods of data collection (e.g., surveys, interviews, observations) produce specific types of data that will answer particular research questions, but not others; so here too, as covered in previous weeks, the research questions inform how the data will be obtained. Furthermore, the method used to collect the data may impact the reliability and the validity of that data.

Position A: Probability sampling represents the best strategy for selecting research participants.

Independence of Developing Nations after a Critical Incident

Without question, there are periods of tough economic times in the United States. For many Americans, this begs the question of whether the U.S. should be in the practice of providing disaster relief to other nations in the first place. If the U.S. makes a policy decision to provide aid to other nations, are there any expectations about what those nations should do in return? Should the U.S. only support disaster relief in developing nations? If so, are there any political implications? Should the U.S. only provide aid to democratic nations, or does this go beyond the altruistic intent of providing relief efforts?

For this Discussion, review this week’s Learning Resources. Consider whether disaster relief efforts influence the independence of developing nations. Also think about whether nations should prioritize their aid.

    With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 4 a brief explanation of whether government or NGOs disaster relief efforts influence the independent functioning of developing nations and why. Then, explain whether you think nations should prioritize their aid to other nations based on the economic status of the receiving nation. Justify your position with references to the Learning Resources and current literature.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources.

Discussion should be 150 to 200 words with at least three references…. MULTIPLE USE OF INTEXT CITATION AND PAGE NUMBER…..PLEASE USE SPLIT IN CITATIONS…PLEASE LOOK UP THE PROPER APA USE OF SPLIT CIATION

It is important that you cover all the topics identified in the assignment. Covering the topic does not mean mentioning the topic BUT presenting an explanation from the context of ethics and the readings for this class

To get maximum points you need to follow the requirements listed for this assignments 1) look at the page limits 2) review and follow APA rules 3) create subheadings to identify the key sections you are presenting and 4) Free from typographical and sentence construction errors.

Population-Based Funding Formula, science assignment help

    Introduction

In the USA federal grants are given to people in the form of economic aids so as to support the public. These grants given as financial aids are not to be paid back at a later date provided that they meet all required obligations. The funding formula for the federal grants includes population-based or risk-based formula. In New York, the best grant funding formula in homeland security is the population based.

    Population-Based Funding Formula (PBFF)

As the director of homeland security office in New York, I suggest that the Population-Based Funding Formula (PBFF) is the best and most efficient funding formal in the state. Population-Based Funding Formula (PBFF) is a funding formula that considers every individual in a District Health Board (DHB) regardless of age, social status, ethnicity, and gender (Velde, Scholefield, & Plante, 2013, pg 188). Therefore this formula used in funding federal grants does not discriminate against any individuals within the District Health Board (DHB).

    Demographics of New York

New York is a state within the USA that is characterized by the presence of ethnically diverse culture. It hosts approximately 23.6 million individuals making it the largest city in the US. This city comprises of individuals of different ethnic backgrounds. This is because it provides a home to many immigrants. Moreover, it is an entry also to many immigrants coming to the USA. Therefore it consists of individuals of various cultures, gender, and social status as well. Therefore using a population-based funding formula in homeland security will be more active in the city.

    Argument for PBFF

PBFF is a funding formula that seeks to provide financial aid to many individuals within a District Health Board (DHB). This formula can cover a wide range of health services. It can cater for primary care; hospital and community care for the population within a District Health Board (DHB). Moreover, the formula can also cover the health of older people and those with mental illness regardless of their ethnic backgrounds, age, and gender (In Ludwig & In Shah, 2014, p. 13). Therefore Population-Based Funding Formula (PBFF) aims to cover for financial aids of every individual within the population of a District Health Board (DHB).

In addition, Population-Based Funding Formula (PBFF) funds any District Health Board (DHB) based on the number of population within that area. Therefore it ensures that every individual within the District Health Board (DHB) is catered for regarding financial aids when they need it. As a result, Population-Based Funding Formula (PBFF) aims is to make sure that there is an equitable distribution of funds to individuals in the District Health Board (DHB). PBFF aims to provide every person in the population with health services that meet their needs. This means that during funding the financial aids given to a population in the District Health Board (DHB) are about the needs of all individuals in that area. This ensures that there is an equitable distribution of funds to every person for the purpose of satisfaction of needs of individuals. Therefore the state of New York requires this funding formula for the purpose of giving every individual in the diverse population satisfactory health and care services regardless of their differences.

” I am pleased to see that somebody has argued for a Population-Based Funding Formula. You did an excellent job summarily explaining your point and reasonings. WITH RESPECT TO REESE’S WORK IN THE ANALYSIS OF ISSUES FOR THE 109TH CONGRESS, DO YOU FEEL THAT THE EVIDENCE CONCERNING THREAT LEVELS, RISK ASSESSMENTS, AND THE COPIOUS AMOUNT OF INFORMATION PRESENTED BY OUR COHORTS BRINGS UP ANY CONCERNS WITH RESPECT TO YOUR ARGUMENT? A Population-based funding formula makes more sense to for North Dakota. Their population density per square mile isn’t anything close to New YorK City. 2015 census estimates put North Dakota’s total state population is 756,927 (Population Estimates, 2015). North Dakota’s 3 largest cities are Fargo, Bismarck and Grand Forks total population is around 250,00 combined (North Dakota, n.d.) while in Bronx, NY alone, the population was 1,455,444 (Population Estimates, 2015). I learned a lot from your argument in favor of the population based formula. Your argument makes sense to me but I wonder how you feel about it in regards to my questions asked?

I believe there are various programs that other countries have adapted that the United States could benefit from when it comes to reducing carbon footprints and maintaining the earth that we have already damaged.  If you look at most European countries, most cities are made for people.  When I say made for people I mean that the infrastructure is set up so that there are pathways, walkways, bicycle lanes and various other ways for people to navigate through the city.  Even is rural parts of Europe, there are bicycle highways that go for miles and allow travel between cities.  America, on the other hand, is set up for cars.  Walking in most cities is hazardous, and once you leave the cities sidewalks and bicycle lanes are almost non existent. Less cars ultimately means less of a carbon footprint, but until the structure of cities are changed people will continue to drive instead of walk.  While cities can have huge amounts of people, the can create less of an urban footprint if set up correctly.  Because they are densely populated, if you change the zoning rules and combine residential along with commercial and retailers, you make travel less because the resources you need are in the area.  (Tulloch, 2011) speaks of this in an article, stating, “New Yorkers have half the carbon footprint of residents of Denver partly because of the Big Apple’s higher population density and public transport network.” Financially this could be challenging as changing zoning and changing the mindset of small houses into high rises would be hard, but this would also allow for rooftop gardens.

Speaking of gardens, building high in these cities would allow for gardens are more over.  In addition, vertical farms would help to assist urban areas with food production, and make food within their neighborhoods a reality.  “Compared to traditional agriculture, vertical farming uses 70 to 95 percent less water and over 90 percent less land, while harvesting 80 percent more per unit of area. This would also reduce the carbon footprint of travel.(Cho, 2015)
