I’ve been impressed with the conversation this week about sexuality and sexual interactions, and I thought it might be interesting to explore this material (and meet another part of our Gen Ed requirements) through another mode of writing: the advice pamphlet. I’m sure you’ve come across many of these, perhaps with a medical focus, safe driving tips, nutrition or exercise – maybe even a pamphlet on sex, sexual relationships, sexual orientation, or safer sex practices.

Writing a good pamphlet requires knowing clearly what information or position you want to convey and a clear sense of who your audience is and their level of reading proficiency. Sentences and paragraphs are usually short, and the active voice (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. is typically used. So for this kind of writing, you need to have a good sense of what you want to say – maybe outline, diagram, or map this out before you start writing – and then you need to find very clear ways to state your thoughts and edit your text carefully to make sure that your word choices are clear, the sentences aren’t too complex, the tone is polished and professional, etc.

Assignment. Your exercise is to write an advice pamphlet about how to negotiate gendered interactional dynamics in order to have a healthy sex life.

Your targeted audience is the college student. You can focus your pamphlet on a strictly female audience, strictly male audience, or a mixed-sex audience – or you can even have a part addressing women and another part addressing men. You can also focus your pamphlet on heterosexual relationships, homosexual relationships, or just have a general focus.

If you want to format your submission like a pamphlet (multiple columns, bold headings, images or graphs, etc.), you are certainly welcome to do so, but this is not a part of the exercise or the grading. The focus of this exercise is how you argue and support the advice you give in negotiating gendered expectations in the context of sexual interactions.

Answer the questions with a minimum of one paragraph per question, using complete sentences. List all references that you use.

1. Chronic alcoholics can develop cirrohosis of the liver. How does this affect the liver’s function? What is the treatment?
2. Patients in renal failure may have to have dialysis in order to survive. Explain the different types of dialysis and why they help the patient’s survival (mechanism of action). What types of patients are at highest risk for renal failure?

The board of directors of your for-profit hospital has been approached by a nonprofit hospital to consider a joint venture to take over their business resulting in a larger for-profit medical center status. You have been asked to construct a financial risk analysis for this conversion. Using course materials, including your text and the Internet, and principles of financial risk analysis, evaluate the considerations that a nonprofit hospital has in considering the conversion to a for-profit hospital.

Consider the following options in support of your decision:

? Projected profit and loss statements

? Retention of estimates

? Selected cost of capital

? Other spreadsheets and calculations you feel are needed to support your decision

Consider the following topics in your discussion:

? Key characteristics of nonprofit hospitals that differ from for-profit hospitals o Include the characteristics required to maintain nonprofit status.

? The need for shifts in the corporate structure required for survival in this environment, including safety net requirements and responsibilities

? Potential reasons driving both organizations and considerations between an outright merger versus a corporate alliance or joint venture.

? Assessment of the payer mix, financial benchmarks of nonprofit and for-profit hospitals o Consider uncompensated care burdens within the for-profit model

? Proffer a decision based on your analysis of whether the organization should convert, create a joint venture, or decline the offer with rationale and justification. Your paper must include your financial information derived in your risk analysis as an appendix included after the Reference page.

The body of the resultant paper should be 4–5 pages. Applicable spreadsheets should be attached to support your decisions. The assignment should include at least 5 relevant peer-reviewed academic or professional references published within the past 5 years.

Impending Reduction in Workforce

Create a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, consisting of 10- to 12-slides, outlining the elements required to create a memo that informs staff in an accurate manner of an impending reduction in the workforce. Think about how you will be objective and informative in communicating this major management decision without deliberately raising anxiety amongst all staff.

Consider the challenges and elements of this week’s case when constructing your memo. Your last 2–3 slides should be the actual memo.

Work through the simulation titled Resource Allocation from the end of Chapter 8 of your course text.  Review the various options in the simulation, then select “Your Own Option” to type out your own solution to the scenario.  You will need to copy and paste your response from “Your Own Option” into the discussion board forum as it will not be transferred otherwise.  Here is a brief synopsis of the simulation regarding the hospital’s budget and dilemma:
