In this paper, you will select a topic related to child or adolescent development and will analyze the topic in an 8 page minimum paper (8-12 pages) to be completed and submitted by October 20th 2013 @4pm.  Analysis requires breaking a subject, issue, or even into its constituent elements so that the assumptions or components are made clear and the relationships between them identified. Thus, through the analysis piece, you will demonstrate comprehension of the material being analyzed. This paper is not a personal opinion or response piece. It must analyze the issue and be supported by references to scholarly publications.

The second half of the assignment will include the Applications piece which uses the Analysis piece as its foundation. This portion of the paper will include recommendations that could be used to address and improve the situation (e.g., what needs to happen in the future) analyzed in the first portion of the paper. Application requires the development of ideas based on the writings of published experts reviewed in the first portion of the paper (with proper citation, of course). First, you analyzed an issue and now you will demonstrate the ability to apply what you have learned and suggest possible solutions and/or future research or programs. For example, if the Analysis portion of your paper focused on attachment issues that adopted children may face, the Application portion of your paper should discuss ways that the Social Services system, adoptive parents, and therapists can both prevent and treat such attachment issues. Another example: discuss the issues that adolescents face as they reach puberty and begin to develop sexually (analysis portion). Discuss issues related to STD’s, teen pregnancy, and the emotional implications of becoming sexually active as a teen. Conduct a job search using the APA website and / or another internet source.  Discuss what you find.  What kind of jobs are available for those with BA (Bachelor of Arts) or BS (Bachelor of Science) in psychology? For those with an MA (masters) degree in psychology? A Ph.D. or a Psy.D. in psychology? Copy the links to these jobs listings into the discussion thread so that we can all check them out. 

Part 2:

Think back to a job interview in which you were either the interviewer (i.e. employer) or the applicant.

Discuss what worked and what didn’t work from either the interviewer’s or the applicant’s perspective.

If you were the interviewer – what kinds of questions did you ask and what advice can you give to your fellow classmates about what they should or should not do in an interview? 

If you were the applicant – what kinds of questions were asked of you? What advice can you give to your fellow classmates about successfully landing that job?
