INTRODUCTION

Non-human primates are our closest relatives and they are often anthropomorphized in films and exploited in various ways by our species. This discussion will highlight the positive and negative consequences that non-human primates face in the film industry. It will also provide information about non-human primate characteristics.

RESEARCH

1. Choose a recent or old Hollywood film that explicitly features a non-human primate. (Documentaries are NOT good for this exercise.)

If you cannot think of an appropriate movie, a good starting point for older movies is this website which lists hundreds of films: http://pin.primate.wisc.edu/av/films.html (链接到外部网站。), but not all of these films are suitable. You need to check that the film features a REAL, LIVE non-human primate.

• Do NOT use films with animated primates, such as The Jungle Book or the Lion King.
• Do NOT use films with humans acting as non-human primates or CGI primates, such as Planet of the Apes or King Kong.
• Do NOT use documentaries that focus on natural behavior of primates. Please select a Hollywood film that was made for entertainment purposes.

1. Review the film and record what primates were featured and note observations on their behavior.
