In the “Tragedy” discussion this week, you explored the function of conflict in a tragedy and how the conflict is enhanced by certain literary elements and techniques. In this discussion activity, you will focus on comedy.

Sharon E. Cooper’s Mistaken Identity: A Ten Minute Play is a modern comedy that centers on the quest for love and understanding. The function of the conflict in this play and the way the literary elements and techniques enhance the conflict is different from what we studied in Macbeth.

In your initial post

  • State a conflict that you see present in Mistaken Identity: A Ten Minute Play (please refer to the Types of Conflicts Found in Literature.)
  • Respond to one of the following, providing specific textual references to illustrate your ideas:
    • Describe a key conflict in the play and how it corresponds to a character’s development.
    • Describe two key literary techniques and elements and techniques of drama that aid in developing the conflict.
    • Explain how and why the conflict in this comedy is different from and/or similar to the conflict explored in tragedy.

assignment 2 lasa 1 false memories

Assignment 2: LASA 1: False Memories

The US legal system places a lot of importance on eyewitness memory. Most people would report that they can accurately convey what they saw in a particular situation. However, these ideas are not supported by research. Instead, research shows that memory is quite malleable and is affected by many factors. This research repeatedly demonstrates that people do not remember exactly what they experienced. This module’s experiment will show you firsthand how memory for events is not always one hundred percent accurate.

Access the CogLab demonstration False Memory. Follow the instructions to complete the demonstration to familiarize yourself with false memory. Then locate at least one research study from a peer-reviewed journal that examined how eyewitness memory can be affected by false memories.

Based on your research, respond to the following situation:

You are considered to be an expert in false memories, and a local district attorney has therefore requested your expertise on the following case:

On Tuesday, March 6, 2007, a bank was robbed in Slidell, LA. It was just after opening time, 9:04 a.m., and there were barely any customers, when a car arrived and parked in the side parking lot of the bank. Two men came out of the car and walked to the entrance. Both wore dark clothing. Upon entering the bank, they held out guns and asked for the manager. When the manager identified herself, the smaller of the two robbers ordered her to open the safe. Meanwhile, the other robber, a tall, and burley man, walked around holding his gun in his outstretched arm, and threatening the remaining employees and customers. The manager complied and the smaller robber collected all the money and valuables from the safe. After five minutes, the big robber asked if his companion was ready to go. When he was, the two ran back to their car, and drove away.

The district attorney has asked that you create a presentation about false memory and explain how it might influence this case. He asks that you specifically address the following:

  • Describe false memory and false memory experiments. Use the CogLab experiment to illustrate false memory experiments, special distracters, and normal distracters.
  • Describe at least one research study from a peer-reviewed journal that investigated how eyewitness memory can be affected by false memories.
  • Explain how false memory might influence this particular case. Use specifics from the description of the case, the CogLab experiment, and research to support your answer.
  • Using evidence from the case, the CogLab experiment, and outside research, justify why eyewitness testimonies should or should not carry weight in criminal proceedings.
  • Discuss any procedures which can increase or reduce the occurrence of false memories when reporting eyewitness events.

Remember, your presentation is designed to help the jury understand false memory and how it might influence the eyewitness testimony of this case. You will have ten minutes to present.

Since this is a legal case, you must include formally written slide notes (proper grammar, proper paragraphs, APA formatting, and academic tone) with research to support your claims. The presentation will be a legal document in this case, so make it worthy of being legally binding!

Develop an 5–6-slide presentation in PowerPoint format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M3_A2.ppt.

By Wednesday, July 2, 2014, deliver your assignment to the M3: Assignment 2 Dropbox.

hcs 465 applying background and methodology of the research process

Resource: Application of the Background and Methodology of the Research Process to Problems in Health Care Grading Criteria.

Choose an article from your annotated bibliography. Obtain faculty approval for your article to ensure that it is a peer-reviewed research article.

Read the following:

  • Background: The background statement answers the following questions: How do you know a real problem, situation, or opportunity will be studied? Does evidence indicate you have chosen an important problem, situation, or opportunity that deserves more attention? What evidence indicates that the problem, situation, or opportunity relates to an organizational management issue or clinical concern?
  • Methodology: This part of a research study provides an overview of the scope of the study or how large, long, and comprehensive the study was. This is a brief overview explaining the gathering of the qualitative and quantitative data and where the data may be found. Implicit in this overview is the recognition by the researcher that both secondary data–document-based data, organizational material, library books, and journals–and primary data–empirical, qualitative, and quantitative data incorporated by a survey, experiment, and so on in a real-time fashion–was gathered to make the study comprehensive, fully researched, and as rigorous as a project must be within the scientific method of data planning, gathering, and analysis.

Respond to the following questions in a 700- to 1,050-word paper:

  • Definition of the problem
    • What is the problem the study was conducted to resolve?
    • Why is the problem important for health care administrators to study?
  • Study purpose: What is the purpose of the study?
  • Research question
    • What is the main research question?
    • If it is not stated, what would you say the research question is?
  • Hypothesis or hypotheses
    • What is the study hypothesis?
    • If it is not stated, what would you say the hypothesis is?
    • It there is more than one study hypothesis, state the hypothesis or hypotheses.
  • Study variables: What are the independent and dependent study variables?
  • Conceptual model or theoretical framework: In what way was a conceptual model or theoretical framework used to guide this study?
  • Review of related literature: In what ways does the literature review support the need for this study?
  • Study design
    • What study design is used?
    • How many subjects were studied?
    • Where are the subjects found?
    • What organization was studied?
    • How long did the study take?

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.

answer 1

Simply put, the toolkit approach should be what all managers and supervisors should adopt when taking the lead on projects. The assumption of some managers is that you can go strictly off of your own knowledge and experiences to guide new projects and just apply your own knowledge. The toolkit approach suggests that managers should seek advice of others on their team and within their organization to add to the knowledge and perspective of how to guide a project.  In addition, the toolkit philosophy expresses that you can’t just rely on your previous experiences and knowledge from other projects and assume that that knowledge is enough and the best approach to deal with the new project. Even if the project is similar to what you have led and dealt with in the past, it doesn’t mean that the methodology you used previously will be the right approach this time around.

In summary, I wholeheartedly agree with the toolkit method and think it’s an approach that should be used in all project management. Don’t assume old experiences will be fully applicable to new projects and always be willing to listen and obtain knowledge from other sources on your team.

answer 2

I think that the kids toolkit approach to management is an approach that all IT managers should adopt. They need to be open, flexible, and willing to hear ideas from all staff including and maybe especially junior staff. Information technology is a rapidly changing field, stagnation will easily leave a company in the dust and belly up. By being flexible and open to new approaches to ideas, a company is able to stay fresh and competitive with the latest technologies that could ultimately alter the way that business is done within their company. Continuing to approach problems in information technology with the same methodical approach every single time is not always the correct approach for unique problems. Continuing to follow the same approach may in fact create new problems in information technology  Solving problems within the information technology field need to be unique to the situation at hand. The kids line about not using a hammer when you need a wrench is a perfect analogy for many current IT companies that use the hammer because they are following the same strategy that has worked for them in the past. It is able to get the job done, but it involves more labor, more hurt fingers along the way, and more damaged products because the correct tool was not used. In the end it ends up getting the job done if you’re lucky, but it leaves a lot of room for efficiency to be improved. This is a great analogy for problems in information technology as well.

discussion 25

Will you answer this discussion question please?

A relational database is the primary method for organizing and maintaining data today in information systems. It organizes data in two (2) dimensional tables with rows and columns called “relations.” Each table contains data about an entity and its attributes. Each row represents a record, and each column represents an attribute or field. Each table also contains a key field to uniquely identify each record for retrieval or manipulation. Provide examples of five (5) good key fields.

Careers in Psychology

This assignment has two major sections.  However, you will be creating a single document for submission.

  • In Section I, you will read the case scenarios of three adults who are about to complete their bachelor’s degree in psychology and provide responses based on your reading and research to address the concerns in the scenarios.
  • In Section II, you will evaluate yourself and rate your own credentials in terms of your readiness for the next step after obtaining your bachelor’s degree, should you be interested in pursuing your education further.
  • Please label the sections as Section I and Section II in your document.

Section I Use the information presented in Chapter 8 of your course text as well as the required websites to assist you in addressing the scenarios. You will also need to do some additional research. Recommended websites are provided and you will find useful information on the websites of graduate programs in psychology and other mental health-related fields. Denise has decided she wants to counsel children and adolescents. She has a modest amount of interest in reading research findings that are relevant to counseling children and youth. She has little interest in conducting research. She is exploring the following options for her degree after her bachelor’s degree:

Master of Arts/ Master of Science in Clinical Psychology Master of Arts/ Master of Science in Counseling Psychology Master of Education in Counseling Psychology Master of Social Work Master of Science in Pastoral Counseling Master of Science in Counseling.
Research the programs Denise is considering and list at least two pros and cons for each option.

  1. Raul always thought he wanted to be a clinical or counseling psychologist until he did some volunteer work in a psychiatric clinic and interviewed several psychologists and counselors. Now, as a senior who is months away from graduation, Raul is trying to decide what his next academic and career steps should be. He has a moderate interest in research but does not care much for writing papers. He could see himself teaching, if necessary, but it is not his passion. He already has a wife and two children, so earning potential is important to him.
    • What advice would you give Raul based on the information from this week’s resources?
  2. After many years in the corporate world, John was let go from his company due to down-sizing. He is interested in integrating what he learned in business with psychology. He believes that Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology might be a good fit for him.
    • What types of graduate options are available for John?
    • How competitive are graduate programs in I/O psychology?
    • What does he need to do to make sure he is competitive enough to be accepted into a graduate program?

Section II For this section, copy and paste the information from Table 8.4 in your text and then rate yourself for each of the items.  Be sure to include an explanation for each at the bottom of the individual sections. See the document with the information attached here. ( Section II )

Assignment 1: LASA # 2: PowerPoint Presentation

Utilizing the information you compiled for your literature review paper, and the feedback you received from your instructor about the literature review, prepare a 10-15 minute Power Point presentation on your topic, summarizing the key points and conclusions. Be sure to direct this presentation to an audience in the community. For example, if your paper pertained to a topic in developmental psychology, direct your presentation toward parents, or a parenting center. If your topic pertained to substance abuse, direct it toward a community service agency which may use this information for educating teens or parents about preventing drug use, or current clients about treatments and facilities available. Please state in your presentation the specific audience toward whom your presentation is aimed. Include a reference page in APA format, as well as speaker notes and an audio file with your presentation.

Your slides should provide answers to the following questions:

  • What was your topic?
  • What question did you hope to answer by completing this literature review paper? Explain the practical implications of the conclusions of the literature review and the audience to which they are directed.
  • Given the results of your literature review, what is/are the prevailing argument(s)? In other words, which of those is supported by the existing evidence? Be sure to include full coverage of the arguments, including strengths and weaknesses of each of them, supported by your findings from reviewing the relevant articles.
  • Did the researchers consider multicultural factors in their studies? If not, what factors may be involved? What multicultural factors should future studies include?

new project

For the following problems (as applicable), assume that the Medicare/patient split of payments is as covered in the book. Assume that the participating/non-participating and maximum allowable charge are as covered in the book. Ignore the patient’s annual deductible.

Also use the following information to solve the problems on this page of the quiz.

Dr. Andrea Johnson is trying to decide whether to be a Medicare-participating physician for the upcoming year. (Assume that her entire practice consists of Medicare patients or at least that her practice has slack capacity. Her Medicare patients do not displace non-Medicare patients.) Assume that her average charge is $120 (before Medicare’s limiting charge is applied), for which the average Medicare-approved amount is $100. If she decides to be a non-participating physician, she expects to accept assignment 80% of the time. For the unassigned patients assume that she would set her charges at 110 percent of the Medicare-approved fee for a nonparticipating physician. Assume that her Medicare patient volume is not reduced if she chooses not to participate nor if she does not accept assignment. (Ignore bad debt and any other factors not presented here.)

1. What will be Dr. Rose’s average reimbursement per visit if she chooses to be a Medicare-participating physician? (This is the total from both Medicare and the patients.)

2. What will be Dr. Rose’s average reimbursement per visit if she chooses
not to be a Medicare-participating physician? (This is the total from both Medicare and the patients.)

A non-participating physician provides services to a Medicare patient who has total charges of $100 (before Medicare’s limiting charge is applied). The physician does not accept assignment, charges the maximum allowable, and submits the claim to Medicare. Assume Medicare’s approved schedule for these services is $80.

1. What is the Medicare portion of the physician payment (which Medicare sends to the patient)?

2. What is the patient’s portion of the payment to the physician (net of the reimbursement from Medicare in the question above?

high performance teams 2

High-Performance Teams

The health care team is at the “sharp end” of service delivery. Members of the health care team are most qualified to analyze problems, generate solutions, and implement and evaluate change. Teamwork is vital to the success of the health care system. Health care administrators must know how to form highly functioning health care teams.

Consider the following scenario:
Mr. Smith was admitted to the hospital for surgery on his left knee.  When Mr. Smith woke up from the anesthesia, he realized that his right knee had been operated on.  You have been asked to form a team to analyze this wrong-site surgery.

In light of this situation, write a two-to three-page paper (excluding title and reference pages) in which you address the questions below.  You must include a minimum of two scholarly sources  and format your paper according to APA guidelines.

1. Who would you have on your team?  Why did you select these individuals?

2. What steps would you take to foster open communication?  What team dynamics might exist that could interfere with open communication?

3. Identify two quality improvement tool(s)/strategies you could use to address the wrong-site surgery?  Explain why you selected these tool(s)/strategies.

cloud computing short thread

In the articles, “Cloud Databases: A Paradigm Shift in Databases” and  “Privacy in the digital age:  A review of information privacy research in information systems,” discussions are presented that outline the latest research in information privacy—a concern that has been multiplied by the advent of cloud computing. In the articles, considerable emphasis is given to the loss of control suffered by individuals as their information becomes more and more vulnerable to the whims of unethical hackers. Should we, as information systems professionals, be concerned about information privacy? Should we worry about the loss of control we suffer from having our personal information available to virtually everyone? These are just some questions that come to mind with present-day dilemmas caused by the vulnerabilities of one of our most valued assets—our information.

In at least 250 words, write your own question that involves our responsibilities and/or attitudes toward cloud computing and information privacy. Answer this question from a research-based, worldly viewpoint. For example, a question might be “Should we, as information professionals and users, be concerned with the lack of privacy in this digital age we live in?” Arguments outlining the vulnerabilities inherent in cloud computing could be provided to support a need for concern.

1. WBS is required for this assignment

2. workflow model that can be used to inspect and detect defects during the acceptance of this mobile product is required for this assignment

Imagine that you are employed as an IT project manager by a prestigious coffeemaker organization. This organization operates many coffee shops within the region and would like to promote its brand by creating a mobile application that will provide its customers with the ability to view the nearest coffee shop location within their geographical area.

As a member of the software development team, you estimate a total project cost of $150,000. You have designated control points to measure project progress. At control point 2, the following data is available:

Budget Cost of Work Performed

$ 24,000

Actual Cost of Work Performed

$ 27,500

There are various stakeholders that are interested in the progress of the project. These stakeholders include the marketing management team (internal customers), software designers, programmers, testers, and upper management. The software development team has attempted to release a mobile application of this magnitude in the past; however, lack of sponsorship, mobile development expertise, and technical infrastructure has limited the team’s success.

Write a four to six (4-6) page paper in which you:

  1. Identify at least four (4) attributes of the mobile application development project that can be measured and controlled and evaluate how each is a critical factor for the success of the project.
  2. Generate a project plan summary of the various project milestones. Develop a WBS that details work packages required to complete project scope.
  3. Develop a workflow model that can be used to inspect and detect defects during the acceptance of this mobile product through the use of graphical tools in Microsoft Word or Visio, or an open source alternative such as Dia. Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.
  4. Describe how the defects detected during the acceptance of the mobile application should be reported and explain the circumstances in which a defect may not require reporting.
  5. Analyze the communication needs of the different project stakeholders. Explain the types of project status reports that would be useful to each.
  6. Compute the cost variance, schedule variance, cost performance index, schedule performance index, and estimated actual cost using the information presented at control point 2. Interpret the project schedule and budget status from the calculations.
  7. Explain how work package, binary tracking, and earned valued reporting can be used effectively during the maintenance phase of the software life cycle if various change requests may be assigned to individuals and processed on an individual basis.
  8. Develop a risk register that will document all of the estimated risks. Assign one (1) risk management technique for each risk and explain the basis for your selection.
  9. Use at least five (5) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

lasa 2 generating a policy proposal

Although some states and cities have passed laws to ban texting and using handheld phones while driving, there is no current law to ban all cell phone use while driving. However, according to the National Safety Council (2009), 28 percent of all crashes—1.6 million per year—are caused by cell phone use and texting by drivers. The mission of a new national nonprofit organization called FocusDriven, patterned after Mothers Against Drunk Driving, is to make phone use while driving as illegal and socially unacceptable as drunk driving. US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood supports FocusDriven and its efforts: According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, LaHood said this movement will become “an army of people traveling the countryside” to push for bans on cell phone use and tough enforcement (Schmit, 2010).

As a political advocate interested in this issue, you will be writing a policy proposal that utilizes the current research to propose a solution to the issue and submit it in this assignment.

Please note that your proposal is not an opinion/position paper, and your conclusions need to be based on the scientific research you reviewed earlier. Please follow the typical steps in proper academic writing (planning, outlining, drafting, revising, proofing, and editing) to generate the following proposal structure:

Introduction

In the introduction, you should set up the purpose for the proposal, provide a bit of background on the topic, and present your thesis.

Policy

Now that you have researched a variety of studies (in M4: Assignment 2), compile that information together to create a recommendation for policy makers regarding cell phone use while driving.

1: In a one-page summary, compare and contrast the results of the various studies regarding the cognitive abilities that are affected during cell phone use while driving.

2: Using that research, develop and explain particular recommendations for policy makers. For instance, restrict texting, or regulate the use of hand-held phones. All your recommendations must be supported by your research findings.

3: Based on the gaps in current research, describe the variables, populations, and situations which you would like to see future research address.

Conclusion

Review the important current research, your conclusions from that research, and how the future could look in both policy and research. Keep your goal in mind: To convince the reader to support your current policy proposal and future research to examine this issue more closely.

Your proposal should be written in APA style (which includes a title page with running header and a reference page), and free of typographical and grammatical errors. The body of your proposal should be 4–5 pages long.
