Final Capstone Project Annotated Bibliography

Review the Final Capstone Project instructions found within the Final Capstone Project link. To help with the preparation of the proposal, complete the following and submit it to your instructor for feedback:

• Topics: Select a topic of interest to you, in creating a Community Development Plan. See Final Capstone Project guidelines for instruction.  
• Thesis: Develop your thesis statement. This will become the point or perspective you will argue or prove in the paper. Please see the Ashford Writing Center, within the Learning Resources tab on the left navigation toolbar, for information on how to develop a solid thesis.
• APA Reference Page: For this paper you need to do research in peer-reviewed journals or other sources that are considered to have reliable information.  In addition to the textbook, you need at least five professional scholarly sources. You are reminded of the Academic Research standards for all Ashford University Papers.
  Academic Research
  The paper must be two to three pages in length (excluding title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style. You must use at least five scholarly resources (at least two of which can be found in the Ashford Online Library) other than the textbook to support your claims and subclaims. Cite your resources in text and on the reference page.

Community Development Plan Instructions

You are the leader of your agency’s planning and research division and have been asked to present a critical analysis of policing as it will appear ten years into the future. Write a report based on peer reviewed

research. You must include the following components in your Community Development Plan:

Personnel

a. What types of individuals would you recruit? Why?

b. What type of education or experience would be required? Why?

c. What type of training would be implemented?

Why?

d. What type of ethical training would be needed? Why?

e. What type of leadership training will be needed? How will this be implemented?

f. How would you define and describe the current need for succession planning for future police leadership, and what can agencies and individuals do to meet these challenges?

g. Why is it important for police leaders to study the future, and what approaches have been adopted by Police Futurists International for this purpose?

Crime and Demographics

a.  What types of offenses and

offenders will predominate and challenge the police? (choose 3)

b. How can we prepare to conquer this type of criminal activity?

c. How do you think changing demographics will affect law enforcement?

d. What are the projected changes in demographics?

e. How will the police have to respond to these changes? What new challenges does this bring to law enforcement?

Community Policing and Problem solving:

a. What will be needed to sustain this type of effort? Include the types of personnel, and political support necessary.

b. Do you think it will be essential for police departments to leave the reactive, traditional method

of policing, and embrace the problem solving approach in the future? Explain
