Have you thought about how your strengths and weaknesses will apply in your chosen profession? For this unit’s Learning Activity, you will research your profession, and fill out a questionnaire. After completing both of these steps, you will then write a summary to be used in your Unit 4 Assignment, covering what you learned.

  1. First, go to the following website: Source: My next move: U.S. Department of Labor. Retrieved from http://www.mynextmove.org/explore/ip
    1. Enter your profession into the Search box at the top right of your screen. An exact match may not appear, so choose the result that is closest to your career path.
    2. Click on the link of your profession, and review the “Personality section.” Be sure to take notes, or print this information for your reference.
  2. After you are done researching your profession, come back to the home page of http://www.mynextmove.org/explore/ip.
    1. Begin taking the questionnaire by clicking the “Next” button that you will see on the bottom right corner. Continue hitting the “Next” button until you complete all 60 questions, so allow time to answer all of them.
    2. Once you get your results, save or print them for your reference.

This Learning Activity is not graded; however, you will use this information in the Unit 4 Assignment to describe how your results from the survey fit with the specified personality and other skill sets of your profession. You will also need to describe the areas where you need to grow (for example, if the job required you to be detail oriented but you are not, what actions will you take to become more detail oriented). Please save this information on your computer to use in the Unit 4 Assignment.

Your paper should include an introduction, topic sentence, supporting statements for each paragraph, and a conclusion. You will be graded not only on the content, but your writing and format. Please see the project rubric located in the course Syllabus.

Type your paper in Times New Roman font size 12 double space.

Paragraph One Aerobics instructors choreograph and teach aerobics classes of varying types. Classes are geared toward people with general good health as well as to specialized populations, including the elderly and those with specific health problems that affect their ability to exercise. Many people enjoy participating in the lively exercise routines set to music.

Depending on where they are employed, fitness trainers help devise health conditioning programs for clients, from professional athletes to average individuals looking for guidance. Fitness trainers motivate clients to follow prescribed exercise programs and monitor their progress. When injuries occur, either during training or sporting events, fitness trainers determine the extent of the injury and administer first aid for minor problems such as blisters, bruises, and scrapes. Following more serious injury, trainers may work with a physical therapist to help the athlete perform rehabilitative exercises

Aerobics instructors and fitness trainers should hold a high school diploma. If you are interested in a fitness career, take courses in physical education, biology, and anatomy. In addition, be involved in sports, weight lifting, or dance activities to stay fit and learn to appreciate the value of exercise.

Paragraph Three. Most serious fitness trainers and aerobics instructors become certified. Certification is not required in most states, but most clients and fitness companies expect these professionals to have credentials to prove their worth.

Personality traits and skill sets required for your profession.  Explain how the traits you learned about yourself from the personality profile in the Learning Activity line up with your field and areas you may need to work on.  Any volunteer or paid experience you can obtain teaching exercise classes will be useful.
