Advancements in technology affect the way of many things in organizations’ operations are done in many different ways.  Automation is already in play with factories when boxing and shipping was once done by a human it is now done by a computer controlling it.  Information technology is used widely in most if not all businesses now days.  In my line of work we have all of our records and scheduling through a computer based program.  The internet effects it by buying and selling on line.  It is easier to purchase something with a click on Amazon vs having to drive, park then go inside a store to purchase something.  Technological advancements has effected my life by making it easier for me to function in a daily task.  I hat e saying that but it is true.  Take this school, all on line which saves me the time and money having to go to a classroom to take a class.  Within my job we only use computers to do our daily work.  Whether making appointments or emailing with our doctors it has become so much easier having everything in one place versus the old way with charts and having to hunt someone down to ask a question.

 

 

 

 

Retirement of the primary career job

Retirement of the primary career jobs is a milestone in the life course of older people, as it signals the transition into late adulthood (Kim & Moen, 2002).  It is double-edged; it can endorse overall physical and mental well-being because workers leave challenging and nerve-wracking jobs on the one hand. On the other hand, retirement may mean the end of a significant source of identity to individuals as they lose their social network of colleagues and friends (Kim & Moen, 2002) as well as their daily routine they were doing for years. In this essay, I will identify three factors that contribute to physical and mental well-being in retirement concerning gender and culture.

Rowe and Kahn (1987) identify the primary components of healthy aging as the absence of disease and disability and lack of predisposing factors towards these, the maintenance of physical and cognitive function, and continued involvement in social activities and productive pursuits (Cherry, Broen, Kim, & Jazwinski, 2016), but what can lead to such healthy aging upon retirement?

Berk (2016) explains that some psychological and social factors, as well as education, can help predict physical and psychological well-being of the elderly after they retire. For example, their feeling of control has a significant impact on satisfaction. Individuals who decided to retire at their convenience are more satisfied than those who give up predictable events in a work-related context. Moreover, the social network of the individual reduces the stress she or he might encounter after retirement (Berk, 2016). Although the size of the social network of a retired individual might shrink outside the professional network, the quality of the network supports the individual mental well-being and reduces stress. Also, Berk (2016) adds that education as another factor that impacts the ability to cope with retirement. Well-educated people with sophisticated jobs have better adjustment owing to their possible ability to transferring their satisfaction and self-achievement from work to other nonwork activities.

As for gender, it has many implications on the nature of occupation and the timing of its onset and retirement, structural constraints, and situational requirements, and retirement and postretirement expectations and experiences (Moen, 1996). Also, the differences in men’s and women’s roles in life and familial pathways imply that their physical and mental health may differ upon retirement. According to Berk (2016), turning points in women’s career peak when they have to adjust their work lives to accommodate their marriage and childrearing responsibilities. From a financial perspective, women are expected to live longer than men with an average gap of five years (Berk, 2014), but women earn less than men, which leads to a financial crisis for women.

For culture, it has a considerable impact on how seniors embrace their retirement and their postretirement experience according to their gender. Lee and Cho (2018) explain that in a working couple, retirement sequence between who retires first, the man or the woman, affects the spouses’ mental health. In societies that have definite gender roles, men do not experience general life satisfaction if they retire first before their wives, and they do not take part in household work or any of her responsibilities because of the social norms (Lee & Cho, 2018).

A monopolist often can raise its profits by charg- ing different prices for the same good based on a buyer’s willingness to pay. This special issue seeks to further ongoing conversations in the hu- manities and humanistic social sciences about the modes of attachment

that make persons public and collective and that make collective scenes intimate spaces. The essays to follow begin to catalog some of intimacy’s norms, forms, and crimes: how public institutions use issues of intimate life to normalize particular forms of knowledge and practice and to create compliant subjects (Poovey, Grayson, Povinelli, Warner and Berlant); how discourses of sexual suffering or trauma have so magnetized crises in a whole set of related fields that stories of the intimate have become insepa- rable from, for example, stories about citizenship, capitalism, aesthetic forms, political violence, and the writing of history (Hanchard, Boym, Herzog, Kipnis, Poovey, Vogler, Povinelli, Warner and Berlant); how people become surprised by the ways ordinary exchanges become intensi- fied performances of mutuality and grounded by the centrality of ritual- ized language for intimacy (Sedgwick, Feld, Vogler, Kipnis); how memory works to create portable scenes that remind one of past intimacies and perform their strange reappearance in unusual spaces (Boym, Herzog, Povinelli, Sedgwick, Feld) and usual ones (Snyder and Letinsky).

The work of this “special issue” is not finished, not by a long shot. The vicissitudes of editing and deadlines leave me longing for more cases, more narratives, more attempts to bring to expression the ways attach- ments make worlds and world-changing fantasies, bribe people to live what should be unlivable relations of domination and violence, and so on. There is neither psychoanalytically based exploration in this issue, nor work on cinema, television, literature, or less globalized media, like stamps or zines; and its general presentness and focus on normativity suggest other places that future work might go. But I should stop here. Introductions are captions to the image a text makes, and like Joel Sny- der, who curated Laura Letinsky’s photos but wanted to caption them only minimally, I wanted to chart the project for you without overinter- preting the work that follows. Using the Production Worksheet, I was able to identify the labor and process for my business plan. In the labor section, I identified the total number of employees (part-time and full time), the number and duration for each of the shifts, and the hours of operation. In the process section, I indicated how the products are transferred to the next stage. My goal is to establish a team approach among all employees. I believe that this will increase efficiency, make them more productive, and build a strong team.

I also learned that having a reliable POS system is key to the success of any business. For my business plan, I am planning to use the Square POS System. This system features payment acceptance, loyalty programs, and inventory management.

Inventory Control Worksheet was very helpful for my business plan. One of the questions was about the steps that can be taken to reduce the theft of inventory. According to my research, the steps to prevent inventory shrinkage are as follows (“4 Ways to Prevent Inventory Shrinkage,” 2019):

Air Pollution

Pollution is a subject that many countries and almost everyone knows about. When we think about pollution, the first thing comes to our mind is the air pollution because we see the pollution from the factories, cars, smokers and firing. What is obvious is that the air pollution would cause diseases is the lungs and the heart because they are responsible for the Oxygen in the human body. However, 60% of the oxygen that we breath is going to the brain. Therefore, we ask ourselves what might occur in the brain due to the pollution.

In fact, Researchers indicated that living in areas of high pollution has serious long-term health effects. Living in these areas during childhood and adolescence lead to diminished mental capacity and an increased risk of brain damage. People of all ages who live in high pollution areas for extended periods place themselves at increased risk of various neurological disorder. In fact, both air pollution and heavy mental pollution have been implicated as having negative effects on central nerves system functionality. The ability of pollutants to affect the neurophislophy of individuals after the structure of the CNS has become mostly stabilized is an example of negative neuroplasticity. In addition, by permanently affecting vascular structures in the brain, air pollution can have serious effects on neural functioning and neural matter. In dogs air pollution shows to cause damage to the CNS by altering the blood–brain barrier, causing neurons in the cerebral cortex to degenerate, destroying glial cells found in white matter, and by causing neurofibrillary tangles. Furthermore, researchers are amassing evidence of cognitive and psychiatric dysfunction in pollution-exposed younger people, whose developing brains may be particularly vulnerable. In 2016, researchers found that Swedish children and adolescents were more likely to have been prescribed psychiatric medicine if they lived in areas with high nitrogen dioxide concentrations, and research published a few months ago linked lifetime exposure to air pollution with depression and anxiety in 12-year-olds living in Ohio.

According to the scientist magazine a study carried out a couple of years ago by researchers at ISGlobal compared different regions of the brain and found that some areas might be particularly susceptible. The team reported that schoolchildren exposed to high PAH levels showed particularly stunted growth in the caudate nucleus, a region deep within the brain that is linked to behavioral disorders such as ADHD. This region already generates relatively high levels of reactive oxygen species, explains study coauthor Marion mortems, now at INSERM in France. “The hypothesis is that . . . the local mechanism to fight the oxidative stress is completely overwhelmed by another intrusion of oxidative stress provoked by the exposure to PAH.”

Furthermore, many of the studies on the effects of chronic exposure to air pollution are observational, making researchers wary of saying air pollution causes reduced cognitive function. Nevertheless, evidence from in vino studies in humans and non-humans’ animals, combined with in vitro research and analyses of postmortem brains, is beginning to lend support to the ideas

Therefore, secondhand smoke also has a direct, measurable impact on the brain similar to what’s seen in the person doing the smoking, according to a new study. The finding highlights the importance of limiting exposure to secondhand smoke in cars and other enclosed spaces. In fact, tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death nationwide. People who smoke are up to 6 times more likely than non-smokers to suffer a heart attack. Tobacco is also one of the strongest cancer-causing agents. Up to 90% of lung cancer deaths are attributed to smoking.

However, the smoker isn’t the only one harmed by cigarette smoke. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, almost 50,000 deaths per year can be attributed to secondhand smoke. A Surgeon General’s Report in 2006 concluded that secondhand smoke causes heart disease and lung cancer in nonsmoking adults. It also causes serious health conditions in children, including sudden infant death syndrome, respiratory infections and more severe asthma.

Mental Health Diagnosis of Disorder

Presenting Problem Client presented in the emergency room (ER) having been brought in the previous night by her parents. Following an argument with her parents, L cut her right wrist. L’s mother reported that L started screaming rapidly and became physically violent toward her prior to cutting her own wrist. Psychological Data L is a 17-year-old Hispanic female who resides in Pennsylvania with her mother, father, and older sister. She is in 11th grade at the local public school. L appeared to be of average to above-average intelligence, as she was able to respond to numerous questions in an articulate and intelligent manner. She was well versed about world history and current affairs. Her mother confirmed that she has done well in school, maintaining a B+ average and participating in various school activities (e.g., chorus, school paper) until last year. L slowly dropped out of many activities she liked in the past. Her mother noticed about 8 months ago that L had also begun having difficulty doing schoolwork. Erratic behavior arose during episodes when L also became irritable and explosive. During these repeated episodes, she became quite defiant, cut classes, had to be placed in school detention, and had even assaulted the principal. L has numerous friends and believed she can relate to all types of people. She has a boyfriend who adores her, but she said she doesn’t feel the same about him. The school counselor confirmed that L is outgoing, popular, and smart; but during these episodes she became another person, one who is very violent and difficult. Medical History A physical examination by a staff doctor revealed superficial cuts on L’s left and right wrist. The cuts appeared to be a few weeks old. There were cigarette burns on her right wrist that looked to be approximately one week old. In questioning L about the cigarette burns, L responded, “I just wanted to see how it felt—now I know.” When questioned about old cuts on her left wrist, she responded, “I don’t want to talk about it.” L weighs 103 pounds and is 5’ 6” tall. L denied any dieting or fasting, but her mother noticed over this past year that her weight has dropped. Substance Abuse History L denied any drug or alcohol use. When she was questioned regarding such, her response was “I could do drugs if I wanted to. I don’t want to, because it’s dumb.” Family History L’s mother is 42 years old and works as a secretary for a large telephone company. Her father is 49 years old and operates a small landscaping business. Both are U.S. citizens, with a cultural background from Guatemala of which they are proud. Both have

a high school education. L’s sister is considerably younger, aged 8. Their relationship is described as unremarkable, although L’s mother noted that the younger sister stays away when L is upset. Marital circumstances are uncertain, although the parents admitted that they are trying to keep the family together for their children, and they are of the Catholic faith. Treatment costs for L have been an additional difficulty for the family, but they said they are very worried about L’s lack of self-control and discipline. Extended family are far away and mostly still in Guatemala. L’s parents were not aware of any other family members with psychiatric problems. Psychiatric History L was evaluated three times at the community hospital ER during the past 4 years. Hospital evaluations were usually done after suicide attempts or threatening violent behavior toward others. L thought that the clinicians trying to diagnose her only had book skills and no people skills. She assumed that no one will ever know what is wrong with her; she did not plan to tell them because she doesn’t like them. L said she knows she “is not crazy,” but she was convinced that the therapist thought she is crazy or a “bad” kid. “They’re just experimenting with me,” L said. L indicated that she had been prescribed medications to alter her mood, but she couldn’t recall what it was, as she stated, “I don’t need those; nothing is wrong with me.” L’s mother reported that L was involved in outpatient counseling on at least four occasions as well as being placed in a shelter once after school truancy, running away from home, and threatening to assault her. A social worker was even sent for home visits for a 3-month period. Each time, L would abruptly end therapy by becoming verbally abusive or totally noncommunicative toward the therapist and would adamantly refuse to continue therapy. She even admitted to shoving a desk toward a therapist and threatening her with a pencil. When questioned about this behavior, L responded, “Well she told me to express myself and let my true feelings out, so I did.” (L also laughed and glanced at her mother during this exchange.) L’s mother was particularly perplexed and overwhelmed by these behaviors. She stated that her husband is completely frustrated and angry. Both admitted that L’s behavior is part of the considerable strain on their marriage. L denied being under any continued psychiatric care even though it was recommended numerous times. She refused to go, stating, “The therapists are the ones who are crazy.” L was first seen in outpatient counseling 9 years ago after she began to have nightmares and experienced tremendous anxiety after her godmother threatened to kidnap her. Her godmother became obsessed with L when L was 6 years old, first threatening to kidnap her then. Her godmother had to be institutionalized after exhibiting bizarre behavior. Recently, the godmother started threatening to kidnap L again. Three years ago, L was sent for counseling after she ran away from home after getting a bad report card and also discovering that her parents were considering a divorce. L requested therapy, as she reported that at 8 years of age she was sexually molested by an older man in the community (who is now deceased). She expressed having mixed emotions, because she viewed her perpetrator as her friend. By pretending that nothing

happened, she could think of him as a nice old man, and she didn’t have to deal with the thought of something this bad happening to her. L’s mother reported that she herself was raped at 8 years old and that L had knowledge of this. Two years ago, L and the entire family again became involved in outpatient counseling after L’s godmother accused L’s mother of child abuse. L’s mother thought this was largely done out of spite. An investigation by Child Protective Services revealed no abuse. Mental Status (1 day after she had been evaluated at the ER) L presented casually, disheveled, in shorts and a tee shirt, and with minimal makeup. L admitted to being in a nasty mood. There was little eye contact, and conversation was difficult. Thought and speech patterns were clear. Affect was flat. She was oriented to time, place, and person. L denied feeling depressed. When questioned about her suicide attempt the previous day, she suddenly became quiet and teary eyed. She lowered her head and responded, “You don’t understand, he made me do it. I don’t want to hurt myself.” L denied even remembering cutting her wrist, saying, “He must have done it or made me do it.” L was questioned about the person she was talking about. She related that there has been a male presence in her life since she was 6 years old and that he makes her do things that she doesn’t want to do or things she can’t even remember. This presence showed up after the funeral of her best friend, Michael. L said he communicates with her through her mind. She seemed distressed when speaking about him. Her mother appeared distressed and fearful as well. L’s mother confirmed that L had trouble sleeping and concentrating at school after the funeral. She did not want to attend Girl Scouts anymore, because the uniform had gotten tight and the male presence was laughing at her. L’s mother remembered how scared she had become on a few occasions when L attempted to run out into traffic. Every time L’s mother yelled at L for doing that, L stated that the male presence explained that this was how she could join her friend Michael. L’s mother took L to a therapist. When L entered the third grade, L’s mother took her out of therapy. L reported that during her awake hours she can’t see this presence, but she can sense him. She said she does see him in her dreams, and his appearances in them have intensified within the past year. In her dreams, he torments children, and he controls people through a haunted mirror and a magic book. He reads and controls thoughts. L described him this way: “He looks in his 40s, but is really ageless. Always dressed in dark colors, but I can’t tell the exact colors he wears. I know his eyes are powerful, but I never really look at his eyes.” L was asked why she never shared this information before. She stated, “Because I would be put in the hospital and medicated—and I told you, I’m not crazy. I know you don’t understand, but I am him and he is me, and he eventually wants to totally control me.” She admitted to acting out impulsively at times, such as throwing things for no reason. L reported that the presence was in the room during this interview. When questioned about why he doesn’t influence her now or make her do something, she replied, “He’s too smart, he wouldn’t do that.” L also mentioned that during the past

couple of months another male presence has been with her. This new presence seems to be controlled by and intimidated by the primary presence. The two males communicate with one another about how to hurt the children in her dreams. L ended the session by saying, “I know this sounds weird, but this is what is happening to me. If you tell any other therapist, I’ll deny it, because I don’t want to be put away.”

Being in the health care profession for 3 years now has given me a better idea as to what role each health care professional has. However, at the beginning of my nursing career I was a bit confused as to what the difference was between a medical doctor and a nurse practitioner aside from the obvious amount of schooling years. I have witnessed that nurse practitioners evaluate patients just how a medical doctor would, therefore making the difference a bit harder to be obvious. After 3 years in the nursing profession I can definitely point out the differences between a medical doctor and a nurse practitioner. A medical doctor goes to school for a longer time compared to a nurse practitioner and they aren’t nurses. A nurse practitioner is a nurse with a higher degree that is able to treat patients and evaluate them as well. I think that nurse practitioners shouldn’t be paid as much as doctors because that would take a lot of the doctors credit and professional work away but I do believe that they should be payed more then what they are getting payed now. The reason why I think that nurse practitioners should get payed more then what they are getting payed at the moment is because nurse practitioners today are health care providers that evaluate patients in many different settings, evaluate patients in a doctors office and hospitals, order treatments and are responsible for many more tasks as well. Also, doctors are basically being relieved or covered in their practices and offices by a nurse practitioner when they aren’t around to make decisions for their clients in emergencies or certain situations. Therefore, although nurse practitioners and medical doctors work together I don’t believe that they. should be billing a nurse practitioners work by billing through a medical doctors license, instead I believe that nurse practitioners should be payed more then what they are getting payed currently.

Advanced practice nurses play a very important role in the health care delivery system. They occupy a pivotal point that actually makes the difference in health care today, yet they have to deal with equality when it comes to payment. They have to deal with significant bureaucracy and politics that indeed prevent them from practicing in an effective manner. Studies have shown that APNs are able to offer care that is actually comparable with that offered by physicians in as far as safety and quality is concerned (Woo, Lee & San, 2017). This is a very important consideration when considering the positioning of APNs in regard to pay. APNs have also been allowed in many states to practice independently and the effects of this move can be seen. According to the Institute of Medicine, nurses need to be allowed to practice without restrictions. They need to be allowed to practice to the full extent of their education, skills and expertise (IoM, 2011). This is a recommendation that will help in offsetting issues and challenges regarding safety and quality of care especially due to the shortage of nurses.

Therefore, as APNs position themselves in the field of practice, they should not settle for less. They need to demand for equal pay for the same amount of work as well as qualifications. The same service offered by anyone as a provider should be paid in the same manner. Any forms of restrictions prevent APNs to perform to their best. The fact that APNs can practice over a wide scope is an advantage to the health care delivery system. However, bureaucrats fail to see this and most APNs still have restrictions on their scope, let alone on matters pertaining to reimbursement. There is still need to advocate and champion for lifting of such restrictions and to make sure that APNs are positioned in ways that allow them to receive equal reimbursement for similar services.

In clinical settings, some of the most common questions that patients ask are Why do I have this? What caused this disorder? Will it ever go away? These emotional questions can be difficult to ask and to answer. However, for patients to come to terms with their diagnoses and adhere to treatment plans, they must have an understanding of factors that might have caused, or continue to impact, their disorders. As an advanced practice nurse, it is important that you are able to explain disorders, associated alterations and symptoms, and changes that might occur within your patients’ bodies.
