Introduction to the U.S. Health Care Delivery System

Having completed the assigned readings, you should now have a basic understanding of the characteristics and components of the United States health care delivery system. For the Module 1 Case Assignment, please conduct additional research as needed and prepare a paper to address the following questions:

Please discuss the following characteristic of our health care delivery system: Health care delivery is no longer confined to the hospital setting. Over the past few years we have witnessed the emergence of outpatient surgery centers, home health, hospice, etc. Please discuss the following as it relates to this change in venue:

1) What factors have led to care being offered outside of the hospital setting?

2) What are the advantages and disadvantages of these settings? Who benefits the most: consumers or organizations?

3) How will the Affordable Health Care Act impact this trend? Will it encourage more alternative settings or put care back into the hospital setting?

Assignment Expectations

Length: This assignment should be at least 3 pages (800 words) in length, excluding references.

References: At least two references should be included from academic sources (e.g. peer-reviewed journal articles).

Organization: Subheadings should be used to organize your paper.

Format: APA format is recommended. While APA formatting of references is not a requirement, the references need to be presented in order using a standard citation style. When material is copied verbatim from external sources, it MUST be enclosed in quotes. The 3 or more references references should be cited within the text and also listed at the end of the assignment in the References section. See Syllabus page for more information on APA format.

CLARITY: The paper reads clearly (i.e., it is not confusing) and is well-structured. Subheadings are used to guide the reader.

You will be expected to provide a scholarly basis for your response. Your opinions must be justified with evidence from the literature. References should be cited properly in the text of your essay, as well as at the end. Several scholarly references should be cited for this assignment.
